It’s psychedelic, and peppered with the feeling you’re fighting something unimaginably foul, evil and ancient. The thrum from 0:55 scared me as a little kid.
You can feel the frustration and desperation in this song. Thanatos conquered kings only for 3 kids to snatch it away. The Dark lich isn't a show of power but the debt he 's not willing to pay.
If there ever was a Ranking for "The Composer didn't had to go THIS Hard for the Penultimate Boss, but we're all Glad that he/she did" this right here would be in the all Time Top 3.
This is superior to the remaster because: The ringing of the bells are consistent with the ruins, There are only drums and gongs and objects that could be played or thought of as strings which are also percussion when used in a certain way, and finally, the chanting. The chanting is the best part of the song and it sounds like skeleton stuff. It's been a long time and hard pressed to find anything aside from warcraft 3 that understands the skeleton bones stuff.
"When you can't find a toilet and you really need to go" - some commenter from an older upload that doesn't exist anymore I'd like to imagine that this is the theme that plays during that scenario.
It makes me wonder if all of this originated from the bone player "Brother Bones and his Shadows." He did the percussion for the Harlem Globetrotters theme so music is just amazing!
Hiroki Kikuta is heavily influenced by Indonesian gamelan. He wasn't sure of what songs would sound like and make his own samples so he would know how it would sound. Ceremony and Oracle are as close to gamelan as you can get on the SNES.
I was prepared for the battle. I was NOT prepared for how friggin' sick this track was.
The best music from the game, because it is so catchy and far out I still think of it after decades! Isn't that crazy?!

The rhythm, sensation, and panic of this track will forever live in my mind!
This sometimes pops up in my head and it's amazing how it gets overlooked so much. Creepy but catchy, really unique.
really an amazing piece and then there are so many others for this game. kikuta was a genius's genius
You get used to the same boss theme used for like 15+ bosses so it's quite easy to remember a theme that stands out like this.
This tune right here is the main reason why I kept coming back to play.. Hell I even purposely died just so I could hear the beginning of it..😂🤩🤩
my brother and i would perfect the boss. one time we decided to fight him and he died so quick we couldnt enjoy the music lol

This is proof that that high bit rates and the latest tech isn't necessary when you have talent and creativity.
I like how it has 32nd note hi hats like a modern trap song. In fact… I would argue this was the first trap song.
If there ever was a Ranking for "The Composer didn't had to go THIS Hard for the Penultimate Boss, but we're all Glad that he/she did" this right here would be in the all Time Top 3.
Friendly reminder: This was the first soundtrack that Hiroki Kikuta (the composer) had solo control in making.
The soundtrack reminds that you are fighting harder against Dark Lich
If there was a price for the funkiest boss music ever; this would win it. No contest.
That moment when you remember that this is coming from a SNES.
Remember being twelve and shitting your pants when Lich popped up?
it doesn't sound the same without Joel just freaking out once his computer starts bugging and glitching out from the memz virus he downloads
Bonzi Buddy? Lol....
Yeah and also Saltydkdan downloading viruses in Hypnospace.
Yes it does, memes ruin music.

I initially came here from the Gachi Version, but I think this one is a lot better.

That's funny
I close my eyes and see hyperdashes.
The beat of this music is the beat of Samulnori, a traditional Korean music.
I believe it's the same music from the temple just remixed and that would be Indonesian gamelan.
shit going SO hard
why are you talking urban?
Hell yeah
The later versions of this song sounded silly, like an EDM party. Nothing tops this original.

The beat...it feels like an old school DJ song. Lol
Chiptunes,Eurodance, and Dancehall all used similarish production methods a lot of the time.
