    Honestly, thanks for the time and effort you put in to create this video. It's one of the reasons we have such a terrific hobby.

    What's better? The "breakdown by category" format or the usual "countdown" format?

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay. Noted. There are indeed several games in that fit in more than one category. Cosmic Encounter is Science fiction. The Crew is a “space” game. Etc.

    Apollo looks so fun and I had never seen it before!! Out of all of these that one really stands out and looks so unique.

      I like it a lot. The game doesn’t require exchanging physical information (such as dealing cards) so I bought my friend a copy and we call each other up and play together on Messenger. I haven’t played with more than two player though and I’m not sure I want to.

      Thank you. Don’t let the lights and the camera fool you, I’m just an amateur when it comes to board games. But I have serious goals!
      I most enjoy sharing lesser known games. Not even the publishers of the two games you mentioned are familiar to me, but with your suggestion, I will certainly take a look!

    I’ve been really enjoying Xia: Legends of a drift system but it’s all luck. 🍀.
    Hoping so to see ISS Vanguard on this list next year. So excited to play it. Delivery is expected around June next year.

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bash games with too much luck from time to time, but it depends on the game. For example, both Crew and Apollo have a lot of luck, but the games are actually about cooperation and communication, especially when luck is bad. Anyway, thank you for dropping a few more titles to consider.

    I don't get it why when it comes to space/sci-fi board games there's no RPG or adventure board game entry.

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, really. But this year ISS Vanguard and Stars of Akarios were released. I have played neither but if you are looking for something with more story, these might scratch that itch.

    • @b89oj
      @b89oj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theperfectboardgame You are right but the problem I have with these two games is that ISS Vanguard is way too big of a game/experience for me whereas Stars of Akarios instead feels like a very simple game. I'm considering Nanolith which looks like a production that stands in between and which is more focused on story and encounters even though you are missing space combat. At the end of the day you only have three titles to choose from...

    Glad eclipse gets some love especially the 2nd edition, which is amazing and the luck issue is fine with our group it makes games unpredictable.

    • @Matt-zp1jn
      @Matt-zp1jn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found eclipse much too focused on economy and tech tree with not many battles (except closer to endgame).
      I much prefer EXODUS Proxima Centauri (REVISED Edition w/expansions, as the first edition was lacking in production quality), as an epic space 4X board game with it’s asymmetrical alien races, politics, more amerotrash style with lots of epic battles, less random Technology Upgrades for your spaceships 🚀 that you can research at ANYTIME out of order as you wish etc, along with the shorter play time than eclipse.
      It’s just as epic as Twilight Imperium or Eclipse, but much shorter, with deep strategies (for each race), battles, nice mini’s, big Hex style planets (same as T.I.), etc.
      It also has many unique modules from the expansions to plug & play and tons of cards, events, each game to have near infinite replayability. Never mind the Solo mode, Semi-Co op, and Fully Co-op modes in addition to the regular everyman for himself style etc.
      An evergreen space game for me, especially with all the kickstater stuff it came with when it was reprinted.

    • @nicolajohnson1887
      @nicolajohnson1887 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Matt-zp1jn I've not hear of that game, and may look it up, you make valid points but I love the tech tree and have modded the game by creating my own races, the templates are on BGG, I love eclipse but is could be improved on.

    One thing I never understood is why people don't like dice and complain its to lucky. I mean.. if there was no luck .. no one would play it because there is no chance of winning if you don't dedicate your life too the game. Chess, starcraft and others have this problem. Also.. dice mitigation is great.

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You make good points. I’m not clear which game you are referring to where I complained about dice, but personally, I like dice more when there are creative ways to mitigate luck. One thing I like least of all are event cards if the events are a complete surprise.

      I haven't played Cosmic in a while. I've moved around a lot and played with many gaming groups but Cosmic is a game that I played with my original group. I've put hours into this game, but I have to ask: how much of my love of this game is due to the game's quality versus my connection to that group and the good times we had together? I am more into strategy games these days, but there will always be a place for a good negotiation-style game.

    What is the game called where you are marines battling each other through corridors on a spaceship? There are different weapons, could not remember the name. You have two character pieces each I think and then you can recharge and collect different weapons. You play against each other, it's not a Warhammer DnD type game.
    Appreciated!

      I may have played this prior to trying DI. It's a great game, EVEN for me (I claim I don't like IP games) and I've said some great things about it in other videos since having played it.
      If I did play DI before making this video, then I might not have listed it for the same reason I didn't list any Star Wars games: a game based on a movie/book is something I might classify differently that a game with its own, unique space theme.

      @@grog3514 no. I meant Dune Imperium. With the card draws and the event deck, the ability to take a card blindly from an opponent. Tons of luck. But don’t get me wrong: it was a lot of fun and clearly there is much strategy and luck mitigation.

    • @grog3514
      @grog3514 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neverbenbetter8225 now THAT is a hot take. lol
      One is a area control/negotiation game and the other is a deck drafting, worker placement game with a skirmish element. Other than being space themed and asymmetric, I don't think those games could be any more different.
      And while I agree there is an element of luck in dune, ... whole lot? The event deck just changes the stakes each round equally for all players and the stealing card mechanic actually PREVENTS randomness. It's just a deterrent for anyone who tries hoarding intrigue cards. No one has actually made use of it in any of my games.
