I agree with that - I am a big fan of cooperative games as well! And, of course, solo games. 😅 My solo games video will come soon! And it will be very different to last year's list. 🤫
Great video; well done for fitting in 20 games in under 20 minutes! Some other videos are too verbose, but you were able to give a good flavour of each game and a compelling reason for it's place on the list. Bravo!
I really enjoyed your video. I found the summaries concise, clear and easy to follow. The categories coming up alongside the name and rank is a great touch as you can see what each game is about at it's core, with a glance. My partner and I are trying to get into board games so this has served to inspire me and to take notes on the games I thought we would enjoy. Also, you have a lovely voice, very soothing and a pleasure to listen to. All the best.
elegant presentation and concise summary. That and the fact that you didn't use any background music (thank you!) made it quite enjoyable to listen to! I noticed quite a few deck- and engine builders among your favorites. But I was surprised that I didn't know some of the games that you so highly recommended. And it made me really curious about them. Thumbs up and subscribed
Great content. I too just picked up Castles of Burgundy a few months ago and am probably nearing 20 plays. Starting to explore all the maps now too. Tons of fun.
Fantastisch! I've only been playing games for about a year and a few are on this list. You seem to have the same preferences I do in games so now have found a dozen new games to add to my wishlist. Danke!
Great list! And perfect explanations. I just went and got Roam - had seen it but didn't really understand what it was about. I enjoy your channel and cannot wait for the solo list!
What a wonderful boardgame list and delivered with such passion and nuance. I think boardgames, with their tactile and personal experience, brings out the best in people and although online stuff has its place, there isnt much that can replace the feeling of reading a rule book, familiarizing oneself with the counters and tokens and rolling that dice. Its sublime and this video captures that perfectly. Thanks
Oh, thank you so much for these kind words! 🥺 Comments like this one make the effort I put into my videos totally worth it. 😊 What are your most favorite board games? 👀
@@SirThecos The Quacks of quedlinburg (as it reminds me of my cooking style) and pandemic but most of our games are in the attic as the children are still at that age where they are likely to pour milk onto a game as play it. So the house favorates just now are Zombie Kids and we're going on a bear hunt!
Awesome video! Compact and filled with nice information and flavour! :) My Top 3 as of 2023, rated in terms of how good and how much I want to play them right now: 1. A feast for Odin 2. Spirit Island 3. That's Pretty clever.
These are some great picks! I need to admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of A Feast for Odin but that is just because of its immense setup and playing time. But apart from that it is a really solid game! But maybe I should give it a try again some time.
Great video. Good to show the game set up as I dont like presenters on screen all the time and no view of the game. Quite a few on my list to check thanks to your video. Well done.
Oh, wow - that is amazing to hear! Thank you so much for your support! 😊 Had you asked me 2.5 years ago if I'd think anyone would ever say anything like that, I'd have declared you crazy. It's incredible how my channel has grown over time - it's great seeing people genuinely enjoy my content. 🥺☺️
Hi, great video, I haven't tried Wingspan yet but will definitely look it up. My top 5 would be Century Spice Road, Quacks, Pandemic, 7 Wonders and Lord of the Rings Risk. Apart from Quacks have you tried those?
Great Games List - I think we have like 80% overlap Top 20 game wise - just my Top 1 is a different one and it is not even in your list: Bloodrage - It think it is great especially for rounds with friends (and some Met / Beer on the side) - wonder if you tried already and what your opinion is? Another game I would have on my list is Arkham Card Game (well - not sure if you count that as board game as it does not have a board :) ) - but it is I guess also the most expensive game as every expansion adds up quite some money. Cascadia is on my Christmas wish list - never heard of Lands of Galzyn but will check it out.
Wow, we got a lot of the same games then! 💯 I've heard that Blood Rage is great but I've never played it so far - it's the same with Arkham. But I really want to play both of them some time!
Of my about 60 boardgames I played Smallworld the most. It´s so simple, fast to play and there are so many cool combinations to try out it became my all time favorite.
Yeah, I did play Terra Mystica once and I liked it! I haven't purchased it for myself yet, though, since it wouldn't hit the table very often due to its complexity. Maybe the new version Terra Nova might do the trick. Also, I'm really interested in Gaja Project - how does it compare to Terra Mystica ? 👀 And I have had Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion for a long time - I need to get this to the table. I haven't played it yet since I wanted to do so on the channel. 😅
@@SirThecos Gaia Project is pretty similar to Terra Mystica, but has a higher level of complexity as it has more mechanics. And a different setting of couse as well as customizable maps. But I think they both play pretty well and if you like one, you will also like the other. The first playthrough is shit and takes a long time, but after that people will understand how the game works and then the real fun sets in :) Isn´t jaws of the lion an expansion set, for which you will need the base game? ^^
Thank you for the detailed answer! I think I'd enjoy Gaia Project but it's even harder to get to the table I guess. Hm...I'm sure I'll get it some time. 😅 No, Jaws of the Lion is a standalone game. It's a smaller, shorter and more compact version of Gloomhaven.
have an old version of Castles of Burgundy that has paper boards and the components are lackluster to say the least. nice to see there are options for a better tactile experience for such a great game
I strongly agree with most of your takes, and we share a lot in the top 5. For me I'd move Everdell to #1, Dune Imperium #2, and Lands of Galzyr #3. But overall your list is really solid and I think anyone who is looking for good games to play would do well to try everything on it.
@@SirThecos The theme is fantastic! I like the fact you play as a Vampire and Hunt people and gain powers. I LOVE that it is a Deck Builder and a Push-your luck style game- the rule book is confusing- however once you get it down soo satisfying, even if you lose. The art is phenomenal and gameplay is simple and fluid👌.
Is it not too late to react? I liked watching your list! Wingspan is my absolute favorite too! Luck to have this in my house. This year I bought Paleo which is very difficult, and Imperial settlers, an older game but like it very much. Carcassonne is also one of my favorites. You said CoB is difficult? Then there is hope for me ;-) I am not a very good player but like playing boardgames very much en Burgundy I play online and like it! Parks is not so easy for me, maybe that's strange, but I never win, don't understand how to reach the goals in time. I think therefore I don't like this so much, artwork is wonderful though. Two of your showed games I really want to play one day: Everdell, Cascadia and Above and below. I put those on my wish-list :-)
It's never too late to react - I'm always happy about comments! A very good selection of games - hopefully, you can play them at some point. 🙃 Regarding PARKS: Although I do like the solo mode, I have heard that there is one on BoardGameGeek that most players enjoy more. I think it's called Ranger Ron - maybe you'll like that one a bit more. Thanks for your support! 🙂
I recently just ordered Castles of Burgundy after hearing so much hype! Looking forward to playing it. Also got Wingspan already and Azul. Azul is fun, haven't tried Wingspan yet! Excited to!
My top 10 are 1. Ark nova 2. Everdell 3. Above and below 4. New York zoo 5. Deep vents 6. Dale of merchants 7. Ecos the first continent 8. Empires of the void 2 9. Cascadia 10. Near and far I haven’t gotten my copy of lands of galzyr yet. From what I’ve seen of it, it will probably make my top ten
I love alot of these games on your list! It really does seem like your taste in games match mine so I'm excited to check out some of the games mentioned here that I haven't had a chance to play yet!
I am new to your channel but I love your videos and your taste in board games as your taste in games is very similar to mine. I also love your accent and how you explain everything. I am also German. ❤
Love Everdell! Curious if you plan on doing a Solo Playthrough, particularly the "Unrigged" version? Big fan of the channel. Even for games I don't think I'll play, I like watching the videos because they're so calming and reassuring. :). Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for the support and the kind words! 😊 I'd love to play the game on the channel - first, I'll need to get it in English. I'm sure I'll do that some time. 😁
Great list and video overall! Always happy to see a "top games" list that's under 30 minutes. Wingspan is also my #1 and Castles of Burgundy is in my top 10. I also enjoy Roam, Quacks, Everdell, Roll Player, and Cascadia and would probably rank most of them in my top 20. I like PARKS, but grew somewhat bored with it after several plays. Need to play Taverns of Tiefenthal again, as I only played it once. Aeon's End is one where our opinions differ - I sold it after a couple plays because I wasn't enjoying it. Do you play with expansions or just the original base game?
Seems like we like a lot of the same games! 😄 I like Aeon's End with just the base game but I do have a few small expansions. I will receive a few more waves at the beginning of next year, though - then, I can finally check out the expeditions! Out of curiosity: Why doesn't the game really work for you? Is it too cumbersome, too long, or something else? 👀
Wingspan is king in my house too. By far the game I have played most each year for the past 2 years. My family and friends never tire of it because of how many different paths to winning there are and each game is unique. So far nothing has dethroned it.
I just found your channel and adored your perspective of these games. I have played a few but now I am very interested in sleeping gods! I would recommend ‘Nemesis’ as a fun board game with fantastic emergent narrative. No game is the same and it is flexible in how you wish to approach the game with your playgroup!
Oh, thank you so much - this means a lot to me! 🙂 I am really interested in trying Nemesis some day. I've just heard so many conflicting opinions on it, which is why I haven't gotten it yet. What is your most favorite thing about it? 👀
@@SirThecos I can understand the conflict, it unfortunately has an unfavourable price point and comes with a large amount of plastic because of it, which is a good or bad thing depending on what you’re after. As far as why I love it, it really brings out that horror on a space ship feeling and is just dripping with the fantasy and flavour of a real aliens in space. My favourite mechanics would have to be: • Moving out on your own really makes you feel like you are on your own alone. • It’s ‘hidden objective’ mechanic can have each player scheming and working together in ways that really bring forward the natural narrative the game forms. I have had games I still fondly remember due to hilarious circumstances happening. E.g. My friend nobly sacrificing himself, sending himself and the alien queen out of the airlock while the rest of us escaped without him. The game isn’t the easiest to ‘win’ but the real winning is different each game, nothing i have played thus far has made me feel as good as both the villain or the hero in a game with my friends.
Wow, thank you for that detailed description! ☺️ That does sound pretty intriguing, to be honest. I'll definitely check out a video or two on it to see it played in action. Could be something I enjoy. 👀
@@SirThecos It's one of those very polarizing games. Either you hate it or love it. If you decide to get Nemesis, get Nemesis Lockdown instead. Personally, I passed on it because you can potentially die on the 1st turn.
What's your opinion on Dominion? It's a card game, but feels more like a board game with card elements. Multiple game of the year awards, Spiel des Jahres etc.
I've heard the most recent edition improved on the original but I'm not sure it improved enough for me. I quickly tired of the game when it first came out. I have not tried any of the expansion though.
Dune imperium was a shocking #1 for me this year. I bought it for a buy two get one deal, but never anticipated it just being so incredible. Its got an amazing app that allows for amazing 1-2 player modes when you dont have 3 players, but shines even brighter with a full table. The new immortal expansion is also looking to be insanely good.
I've heard so many good things about it - I'm just not a Dune fan but I guess I'll have to check it out! What's your favorite aspect about the game if you had to sell it to me? 😅
@@SirThecos its a simple but elegant worker placement game with deckbuilding and troop deployemebt battle elements that make it unique. Its similiar to everdell in that only one person can occupy a worker space, and each faction genuinely feels like a unique way to manage what spots you want to place workers on. It also had one of the best 1-2 player modes ive ever played due to an app (or card system if you dont want to use a very well made app) representing what a 3rd player may de ide to do, and working to similiarly limit your actions. The immortal expansion coming out this year also sounds amazing and similiarly well made based on reviews ive watched
Really appreciated the fact that you have to play a game multiple times to get to know the game before you rank. Too many lists had games ranked in their top 10 after one play. I really liked the length, somehow you fit a lot in about each game in a short space of time. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Im looking forward to trying bargain quest. I have the base game and the black market expansion. What other expansions are your favorite? They just put out a new one but theres no review on it anywhere that i can find. Curious about it!
Honestly, only the Black Market expansion really expands the game in a good way. Actually, I would always include that one: It doesn't make the game much more complicated but adds a lot! 😁
Thank you for your great video sharing your top 20. I noticed, all your cards seem to have a cover protection. May I know what would you recommend for card plastic sleeve protection? What brand or company? Thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! ☺️ Nowadays I only use the matte non-glare sleeves by Arcane Tinmen. Some games in the video still have some older sleeves.
Nice list. Personally I put Ares Expedition ahead of TM. I own and do enjoy both as they are a Tad different. I as well enjoyed Artemis Project, tight dice placement resource game. Have Aeon's End but haven't played much. Plan on putting to the table to complete all expansions. Thanks for sharing your list. Good to see what everyone enjoys no matter how different they maybe.
I agree - such lists are always highly subjective and it's interesting to see what other people enjoy! 🙂 Ares Expedition is a game I really want to try as well - do you still keep TM around despite liking Ares Expedition a bit more? I hope you'll be able to explore Aeon's End a bit further as well. 😎
@@SirThecos At the moment I am keeping TM around with Ares. There is enough difference with the tile placement opposed to flipping a tile Ares. In addition you must pay to obtain and play cards where Area you only pay to play. When the new expansion for Ares comes out next year that contains Critical Events which destroys your planet, I may depart from TM. It's a nice new enhancement that is challenging and intriguing. Ares is faster to setup and play. What really attracts me to TM tile placement and the structure. In Ares you have to play a card for an action, production, etc, where TM it's built in.
Interesting - thank you very much for these insights! 🙂 Hm...I just got TM and the good player boards and was thinking about getting the big box upgrade es well. But now I might first try Ares Expedition and then decide how to deal with TM. But I just got it, so I definitely still have lots to play there. Are you backing the dice game of TM?
@@SirThecos To me the Big Box upgrade is just a bunch of miniatures to put on a map instead of tiles. I haven't seen anything else different in comparison to the base game. My opinion, that's an expensive upgrade. Regards Ares Expedition, I would look around and see if you can get a copy pretty cheap online. Was able to get a "New In Shrink (NIS)" Kickstarter version in the States for $20. With the holidays coming about, I know Ares Expedition collectors version last year around Thanksgiving/Christmas went for $15 believe on Amazon. I know your in Europe so prices may vary. In general I do not back kickstarter as I believe your paying a premium. If I was to back the Dice version it would cost me $55 with shipping. That cost more than my TM and Ares. When it comes to retail will be much cheaper. Anyway, do not believe I will purchase for these reasons. I feel like the game has been really streamlined using the dice. Admittedly so, I was excited about the game when hearing about it. Just saw a playthrough/review of the game and I feel just using the dice to purchase the cards for production and/or only performing actions really takes the tension out of the game. When watching said individual it felts as though they were either purchasing cards or performing actions aka production. Watching the game felt very repetitive and felt the decision making was linear. To me TM the dice game was made into a gateway style game having those entry level board gamers get into TM much easier. For this reason I will not pursue TM the dice game.
Wow, what a detailed response! I agree with pretty much all of your points: I first didn't want the Big Box upgrade but it would be nice if everything would fit more nicely in the box - but I have instead been considering a nice insert. Regarding the dice game: It also looks to me a bit too streamlined but I can't deny that I'm intrigued anyway. 😅 I definitely need to watch a playthrough to learn more about it.
couple suggestions to look at if you didnt before (and if you find them): gizmos champions of midgaard (with valhalla expansion) arc nova western kingdom trilogy (especially architects and paladins) res arcana dune imperium beyond the sun
I have not gotten deep into board games yet. The only one on this list I have played is Mechs Vs Minions, which I agree is very good. And I would call it a must-have for anyone who wants a ton of minis to use for a TTRPG.
Have you gotten to try “It’s a Wonderful Kingdom” a new 2 player take on It’s a wonderful world??? It’s my favorite 2 player game out there and if you enjoyed its a wonderful world, I would love to hear your take on it’s a wonderful kingdom
No, I haven't played it yet, in fact! I have heard so often that it is clearly inferior to It's a Wonderful World and that the solo mode isn't as good, either. How would you evaluate the solo mode? 👀
Yes, that might be my problem: Carcassonne is a really good game but I had played it so often that I never play it anymore. Expansions might be the solution here - there are so many of them!
For sure! I played it once a little while ago and enjoyed it - I just need to play it more often to be able to really rate it. But it's definitely very good - I'm looking forward to future plays and also checking out the more streamlined version Terra Nova. 😁
Here is an idea how to make your favorite game Wingspan much better (it's our rules fix) : all quests are open and public (all players work for the same quests) + at the end of the game you ONLY get points for quests and 4 contests. Try it, maybe you will like this modification too.
Very interesting variant! Question: Does that mean that birds, eggs, tucked cards etc. don't give any points at all? And how many quests do you activate per game?
@@SirThecos Yes. In this modification you can't make an egg factory and get a lot of points, ignoring quests and contests. At the end of the game, players only get points from quests and contests. Whenever a player gets a quest, that quest becomes a public quest (for all players). So each game is unique and you can't use the same tactics - this greatly increase replayability! We also like to get birds by draft (all the starting random birds are open and we get them one by one to create starting hands of 5 birds - it's fun). The first quests players add to the game after the draft (each player knows one upcoming public quest and can choose birds for this quest). We no longer play Wingspan by the original rules. And we can't get enough of the birds after these modifications (the game has become one of our favorite) :)
I used to be a massive fan when it first came out and played way too many games. 😅 But I have played it really often and nowadays, there are just a lot of games I enjoy more. Catan is still a good game, though.
it hurt my heart a little to see this many Ryan Laukat games on the list (three, I think?) but not Empires of the Void II. But that's also the great think about Laukat: he has so many games and so many of them are excellent, that any list of this kind might have three of his titles but all kinds of different ones (without playing Sleeping Gods, mine are EotV2, Above and Below and flip a coin for the third one)
@@SirThecos Here is my mod that I think works especially well. I play with Original, EE, and OE. I make 3 piles of cards based upon expansion. The tray is filled with one card from each deck, and only replenished from the appropriate pile, that way there is always a card from Orig, EE, and OE face up. Next, at game start everyone gets 6 cards 2 Orig, 2 EE, 2 OE, you then choose to keep 5 things between food and cards. When you draw a card you can choose which deck to draw from.
Great list, but I especially like you actually show the game on the table with the components and not just put a box up to your face. Makes much more sense.
Sorry I only have two of those on your list. That is TM and Wingspan. Although I have considered getting one or two listed. But generally I know people with those games and so will play those titles if they raise them at a session. I like more heavier titles. Gallerist by Vital Lacerda, recently my most enjoyable experience is Terra Nova, this having similar mechanics to TM but is quite different. Anachrony from Mindclash is one I truly enjoy with the KS additions. Otherwise the lite ones aren't really something I like, like Cascadia: not my wheelhouse. Parks is,,,, OK. Spirit Island is as close to a game I agree with on your listing and me wanting to get.
Well, we all have different tastes. I do like heavier games as well but not all of the time - especially when you're a bit worn out. Then, I prefer games that are a bit more straightforward. 😅
@@SirThecos Sure, it’s always way to open something new! Meantime my top 10: 1. Arkham Horror (2nd) 2. Mage Knight. 3. Nemesis. 4. Game of thrones. 5. Arkham horror card game. 6. Chaos in the old world. 7. Race! Formula 90. 8.Too many bones. 9. Star Wars: Rebellion. 10. Fallout
That is a great list with quite a few games I still have to check out! Mage Knight I have only played once so far - it was pretty overwhelming but I definitely need to try it again. How do you play Fallout? I own the game and liked in in general, I just found the victory conditions quite messy. Do you play with the original rules, with custom rules, or the expansion(s)?
I recommend Fallout base game for solo play only,so you can avoid problematic victory condition mechanic or with Atomic bonds expansion, where this problem is settled:) Pls try again Mage Knight - it’s great game!
I still found the victory condition problematic in my solo play but I'll play it again soon! Maybe it'll work better - as a Fallout fan I really want to like this game! Also, I will replay Mage Knight some time as well! ✌
I like your transitions! I was just putting away the Parks game away with the expansion. The insert sadly does not work as nicely with the expansion in the base box. 😢 I like the art current Castles of Burgundy! I don’t like the dice as much. Wingspan is my top game too :)
Yeah, I've been holding off on getting the expansion because of that exact reason. 😐 Well, if Wingspan is your top game as well, then you got a good taste! 😄
The best youtube video on the subject so far but it unfortunately doesn't quite identify a game i am after. I'm looking for something for tween+, replayability, 40min to 2hr game time and a boardgame in the traditional pieces on a board sense, and less card based (already playing a few basic ones). Got any thoughts?
@@SirThecos nothing in particular bar the ideas in initial post. Im considering zombie teenz, even the walking dead game but a non zombie game would get more buy in from my daughter i suspect. Oh and wow. Thanks for even looking at this.
I have heard good things about Zombie Teenz - I'm even interested in trying it out myself some time. This might fit pretty well to what your looking for.
Great video! Have you played Clank? From your choices above, I think you would enjoy it! PS - Wingspan is my favourite game too! I’m so excited to see my local birds in the Asia expansion soon!
Great! Many boards I want to discover. And Robinson Crusoe didnt make it from last year list! Even better, that game has too many flaws and unlogical stuff. Definetely I want to try Artemis project and Dawn of Zeds!
Oh, very perceptive! 😁 Yeah, although the game is definitely not bad (and has loads of fans) it is really brutal, unforgiving, and frustrating. And that is also its design which I don't enjoy since it does suck a lot of fun out of playing. The Artemis Project and Dawn of the Zeds are great, though. Just be warned: Dawn of the Zeds is very tough and brutal as well but it's definitely more fair than Robinson Crusoe.
I usually use the matte sleeves by Arcane Tinmen, at least I have been using them for a while now. Some of my older games still have other sleeves. But these matte sleeves are great: While they slightly lower colors' intensity, they look and feel amazing imho.

Oh, thank you so much for these kind words - that really makes all my efforts worth it! ☺️
I hope you'll find some games you will enjoy! 💯
What interesting taste you have.
I love your selection.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! 🙃
Wingspan, Parks, Cascadia! Those are amazing games! Can't get tired of them.
I 100% agree! But, well, you know that. 😅
elegant presentation and concise summary.
Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed the video. And welcome to the channel! 🙂
Great content. I too just picked up Castles of Burgundy a few months ago and am probably nearing 20 plays. Starting to explore all the maps now too. Tons of fun.
Oh, yes - this is such a good game. 😍
Fantastisch! I've only been playing games for about a year and a few are on this list. You seem to have the same preferences I do in games so now have found a dozen new games to add to my wishlist. Danke!
That is amazing - I'm always happy when people get to discover new games because of my videos! ☺️
Und gerne geschehen! 😁
you have a very calming voice, thank you for making this video! I also really love Wingspan, it is one of my favourites!
Thank you very much - I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Also, you have good taste if you love Wingspan. 🙃😅
Great list! Thank you for sharing! I will have to check out Dale of Merchants since you talked so highly of it!
Sami (the designer) will be happy to hear that! I hope you'll enjoy the game! 😊
Let me know if you need any consultancy. 😅
Great list! And perfect explanations. I just went and got Roam - had seen it but didn't really understand what it was about. I enjoy your channel and cannot wait for the solo list!
That's awesome - I hope you'll enjoy the game! ✌️
What are your most favorite board games?
Good list! I absolutely love Quacks of Quedlinburg. 😁
Awesome video! Compact and filled with nice information and flavour! :)
My Top 3 as of 2023, rated in terms of how good and how much I want to play them right now:
1. A feast for Odin
2. Spirit Island
Well done.
I am really glad to hear that! I am happy that my extra work is really being appreciated! ☺️
The video was really smooth and easy to watch. Great work
Thank you so much - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Those are some nice transitions :D
Thanks! 😁
Great video, fantastic list. My shopping list has just got a bit longer. Thanks! :)
Oh, I completely feel you. 😆
Thank you - I'm really happy you enjoyed my video! 😊
Keep up the good work.
This channel and BoardGameBollocks are my favourite boardgames channels.
Oh, wow - that is amazing to hear! Thank you so much for your support! 😊
Had you asked me 2.5 years ago if I'd think anyone would ever say anything like that, I'd have declared you crazy. It's incredible how my channel has grown over time - it's great seeing people genuinely enjoy my content. 🥺☺️
I LOVE ROAM! I'm so happy to see it on someone's list, I think its so underrated!!!!
Yes, I agree - such a hidden gem! 😍
I think we like the same kind of games! I'm excited to have 'discovered' you....
I'm incredibly happy to hear that - thank you! 😊
Thank you for you reviews. I would love to see the top Family boardgames you recommend
I actually have two videos on my channel where I talk about 15 great family games each! 🙃
awesome list! Thanks for sharing!
Hi, great video, I haven't tried Wingspan yet but will definitely look it up. My top 5 would be Century Spice Road, Quacks, Pandemic, 7 Wonders and Lord of the Rings Risk. Apart from Quacks have you tried those?
These are all good games as well! I have played all of those except for LotR Risk - I have played the original Risk, though. Are they very different?
I've heard that Blood Rage is great but I've never played it so far - it's the same with Arkham. But I really want to play both of them some time!
Of my about 60 boardgames I played Smallworld the most. It´s so simple, fast to play and there are so many cool combinations to try out it became my all time favorite.
Yeah, I've had that one in my sights for a while as well. I might have to take a closer look at it - thanks for the heads up! 💯
you should! Oh and if you are interested, Gloomhaven, Istanbul and Terra Mystica/ Gaia Project are very great boardgames as well :)
And I have had Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion for a long time - I need to get this to the table.
No, Jaws of the Lion is a standalone game. It's a smaller, shorter and more compact version of Gloomhaven.
have an old version of Castles of Burgundy that has paper boards and the components are lackluster to say the least. nice to see there are options for a better tactile experience for such a great game
Yeah, I still have that old version as well. 😁
Enjoyed the video =]
Looking forward to more.
Awesome, thank you! Soon, I'll release my Top 20 solo games! 👀
Awesome! Saved my day with another great video. Very curious to see how 2022 changed your views.
That's great to hear! Yeah, I have played a lot of games in the meantime, so quite a lot has changed! Let's see what 2023 will bring. 😅
Wonderful list! 🫶
Thank you! 😁
Excellent Video!
Thank you! 😊
I strongly agree with most of your takes, and we share a lot in the top 5. For me I'd move Everdell to #1, Dune Imperium #2, and Lands of Galzyr #3. But overall your list is really solid and I think anyone who is looking for good games to play would do well to try everything on it.
Thank you so much - I'm glad you like the list! 🙂
Dune Imperium is a game I'll have to try some time - I keep hearing great things about it.
Just found this channel- and I agree WingSpan is one of my Favs right now! Also just got “The Hunger” and that game is REALLY FUN!
Welcome to the channel! 🙂
Oh, I got the Hunger on my list and really thought about getting it! What do you like most about it? 👀
Well, you're doing a good job selling the game to me. 😅 I'll take a closer look at it! 👀
Really awesome video! I love how you speak of games and in a succinct way!
Oh, thank you so much - I'm really happy to hear that! 😊
Regarding PARKS: Although I do like the solo mode, I have heard that there is one on BoardGameGeek that most players enjoy more. I think it's called Ranger Ron - maybe you'll like that one a bit more.
Thanks for your support! 🙂
Awesome list! I specially like your content format , the pacing of the video, the way you explain your points, big kudos!
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! It's great to see that the effort I invest is appreciated this much. ☺️
I just discovered you with this video and wow, I feel like we share the same vibes in board games! Super excited to learn more about games from you :)
Wow, thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoy my videos! And welcome to the channel! 😊
wow great variety in the list 🎉
Thank you! ☺️
I recently just ordered Castles of Burgundy after hearing so much hype! Looking forward to playing it. Also got Wingspan already and Azul. Azul is fun, haven't tried Wingspan yet! Excited to!
Oh, these are some amazing games - I hope you'll have fun with them! 😁
My top 10 are
1. Ark nova
2. Everdell
3. Above and below
4. New York zoo
5. Deep vents
6. Dale of merchants
7. Ecos the first continent
8. Empires of the void 2
9. Cascadia
10. Near and far
I haven’t gotten my copy of lands of galzyr yet. From what I’ve seen of it, it will probably make my top ten
A really nice list! Ecos is a great game that might make my Top 20 list at some point, too, and I really want to play Ark Nova! 👀
Super Video und besonders gutes Englisch! Kompliment!!
Vielen Dank - das freut mich sehr! 😊
I love alot of these games on your list! It really does seem like your taste in games match mine so I'm excited to check out some of the games mentioned here that I haven't had a chance to play yet!
That's amazing - feel free to let me know in case you discover a new game you enjoy playing! 😁
Nice video :) waiting for the best solo games list
It's coming soon! 😁
Great list! I'll have to check a few of these out. :)
That's great - maybe you'll find a game you will enjoy as well! 🙃
Well done. Thanks for the ideas!!
That's great to hear - I'm glad you like them!
I'd love to play the game on the channel - first, I'll need to get it in English. I'm sure I'll do that some time. 😁
@@SirThecos thanks for the reply! Have a great game week! Thanks again!
Thanks, same to you! 🙃
Yeah, it's such an amazing design - theme, components, gameplay etc. It's such a treasure - I have no idea what game could ever dethrone it. 🐦💚
I am really interested in trying Nemesis some day.
My favourite mechanics would have to be:
• Moving out on your own really makes you feel like you are on your own alone.
That does sound pretty intriguing, to be honest.
Wow over 100.000 views!! That's awesome my friend! Well deserved!
Thank you so much - it's pretty crazy! 😊
Great list!!
Thank you! 😁
Thanks for showing game boards and components in list... Most channels just put the name of game in the list
Yeah, I definitely wanted to show a few images, so you can at least see what the game looks like. It's much more work but also a lot nicer. 🙃
Love your video. I have Everdell in my collection. We just got Dwellings of Eldervale and LOVE it! Have you played it?
Not yet! What do you like most about it? 👀
What's your opinion on Dominion? It's a card game, but feels more like a board game with card elements. Multiple game of the year awards, Spiel des Jahres etc.
It's a good game! I have only played it digitally so far - I am thinking about getting a physical copy to really sink my teeth into it.
I've heard the most recent edition improved on the original but I'm not sure it improved enough for me. I quickly tired of the game when it first came out. I have not tried any of the expansion though.
great list,thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 🙃
Great list. Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do! 🤓
Great list, my daughter and I love Roam!
I wish more videos used potatoes for scale 😅
Roam is incredibly underrated imho - I'm always happy when I hear that people like it! ☺️
It's great that my weird jokes are being enjoyed. 😅
@@SirThecos oh I'm all about the weird 😁
Very nice. 😁
I just picked up Roam and hope to get it to the table tomorrow!
Awesome! I hope you'll enjoy playing it! 😊
That does sound pretty good - thanks for your efforts! ☺️ I'll definitely check out the game in more detail. 👀
@Sir Thecos not being a Dune fan might work in your favor! I didn't really like Dune Imperium because it wasn't Dune enough lmao
@@miller0002 Oh, really? Well, that is indeed interesting. 😅
Really appreciated the fact that you have to play a game multiple times to get to know the game before you rank. Too many lists had games ranked in their top 10 after one play. I really liked the length, somehow you fit a lot in about each game in a short space of time. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you so much - these words mean a lot to me. I'm really glad you enjoy my videos! 🙃
Like the fact that you cover 20 games in a short time.I did not skip ahead.
Oh, thank you so much - I'm glad you liked my concise video! 😊
OK, you have my respect when you include Ryan Laukat. Yes, he is my favorite games designer as well.
Nice! What's your favorite Ryan Laukat game? 👀
Above and Below, although I do play a lot of Roam as well.
@@Tampahop Great choices! 💯
@@Tampahop Great choices! 💯
Thank you for your great video sharing your top 20.
I noticed, all your cards seem to have a cover protection.
May I know what would you recommend for card plastic sleeve protection? What brand or company?
Thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! ☺️
Nowadays I only use the matte non-glare sleeves by Arcane Tinmen.
Ares Expedition is a game I really want to try as well - do you still keep TM around despite liking Ares Expedition a bit more?
Hm...I just got TM and the good player boards and was thinking about getting the big box upgrade es well.
I definitely need to watch a playthrough to learn more about it.
Lands of Galzyr looks really cool! Not sure how this one slipped through my radar!
Yeah, it's an amazing story telling game! It was on Gamefound but can still be ordered on the Website of Snowdale Design. 🙃
Yeah, same. Never heard of it. Looks cool.
I hope you'll have fun with the game should you decide to play it some time! 😊
couple suggestions to look at if you didnt before (and if you find them):
gizmos
champions of midgaard (with valhalla expansion)
arc nova
western kingdom trilogy (especially architects and paladins)
res arcana
dune imperium
beyond the sun
A few of those I have played - Gizmos is a good one especially! I'll have to check out some of those. 👀
Great list, I agree with many of your games but can't believe you left out Ark Nova. It's hard to play anything else these days.
It probably would have made the list but I just haven't played it yet! 😱
I hope I'll be able to soon! 🙃
Thanks for sharing your list. What an excellent variety!
I'm so happy you enjoyed this video! 🙃 What would be your most favorite games?
17 Games I have as well. Thanks for Your Video
Oh, nice - that's a lot! 😁 Which three (or eight if you count the Honorable Mentions) games are missing in your collection?
@@SirThecos Dawn of the Zeds, Dale of Merchants and Spirit Island.
I see - well, the first two are not the most well-known game and Spirit Island is quite heavy. But they're all good games. 😁
+1 for Bargain Quest - I love playing that game with my kids.
That's so great to hear - this game is vastly underrated. ☺️
I have not gotten deep into board games yet. The only one on this list I have played is Mechs Vs Minions, which I agree is very good. And I would call it a must-have for anyone who wants a ton of minis to use for a TTRPG.
It is such an underrated game!
Bargain quest is our only game in common but a lot of those look phenomenal!
There are a lot of good ones there! 😁
Carcassone is amazing, but you need to add expansions with it as the base game lacks so much!
Yes, that might be my problem: Carcassonne is a really good game but I had played it so often that I never play it anymore. Expansions might be the solution here - there are so many of them!
Have you heard about terra mystica?
If not it's definetly worth checking it out
For sure! I played it once a little while ago and enjoyed it - I just need to play it more often to be able to really rate it. But it's definitely very good - I'm looking forward to future plays and also checking out the more streamlined version Terra Nova. 😁
Fresh takes, thanks.
🙃
Looking forward to convince you that Ecos deserves a slot in your 2023 Editon :D
I really enjoyed my play of Ecos with you! But I need further plays to see where I would rank it - let's do it! 😁💯
Great video, dissatisfied to see bullet is not in the top 20
Will check bargain quest sound nice
Yes, I totally love Bargain Quest and wish more people would try it out! 😁
@@SirThecos just sad to see many vp games in the list
0:04 what is the game?
Everdell & One Deck Dungeon :)
Thank you for the support, good sir!
This is a very interesting variant that changes the game in a major way. I'll keep this in mind!
Great list
Thank you! 🙃
Really cool games I have yet to try and need to go buy. I'm really surprised at Catan not making a top 20 board games list? Not a fan?
I used to be a massive fan when it first came out and played way too many games. 😅 But I have played it really often and nowadays, there are just a lot of games I enjoy more. Catan is still a good game, though.
Have you played Starfarers of Catan? My favorite of the Catan series.
F1 board game Pole Position is now in Kickstarter...can you tell us something about this game? Looks asesore
No, I actually haven't played it but I'll check it out - thanks for the heads up! 😁
it hurt my heart a little to see this many Ryan Laukat games on the list (three, I think?) but not Empires of the Void II. But that's also the great think about Laukat: he has so many games and so many of them are excellent, that any list of this kind might have three of his titles but all kinds of different ones (without playing Sleeping Gods, mine are EotV2, Above and Below and flip a coin for the third one)
I just got Empires of the Void II but haven't played it yet - so, it of course couldn't make this list. But I hope it will next time! 😁
Wow didn't expect dawn of the zeds poping up, it is an amazing game one of my top games
It really is - and totally underrated in my opinion.
Did you remove the Ravens and such in Wingspan? They're overpowered but the base game so good I keep them in
No, I didn't - save for the expansions I play the game completely vanilla. 😁
That's what I thought, too, although it's way more work. I'm happy you like the way I shot the video! 🙃
I was about to throw a rant about Everdell being so high on the list, but Wingspan not appearing at all... Then I finished the video. :D
I'm glad you finished the video then! 😅
Thanks for video! Very funny:) I have 120+ games in my collection, but none out of these 20:))))
Well, that's the great thing about this hobby: There's always more to discover! 😁
What are your most favorite games?
@@SirThecos Sure, it’s always way to open something new! Meantime my top 10:
I like the art current Castles of Burgundy! I don’t like the dice as much. Wingspan is my top game too :)
Yeah, I've been holding off on getting the expansion because of that exact reason. 😐
Well, if Wingspan is your top game as well, then you got a good taste!
Thank you so much! ☺️
Well, that is tough to say. What mechanisms and/or themes are you looking for? 👀
Oh, that sounds amazing! 🙃
No, I haven't played the game yet but I'd love to try it. Which one would suggest? The regular one or Clank! in Space? 👀
@@SirThecos They are fairly similar! I’d say pick whichever theme suits your tastes!
Nice - I like such straightforward answers. 😅
@@SirThecos I guess freedom of choice is overrated 😂😂😂
Or no choice at all if you get both. 😆
Just be warned: Dawn of the Zeds is very tough and brutal as well but it's definitely more fair than Robinson Crusoe.
good video
I'm glad you enjoyed the video - slot of love went into it! 😊
Can I ask you what kind of card sleeves do you use?
I usually use the matte sleeves by Arcane Tinmen, at least I have been using them for a while now. Some of my older games still have other sleeves.
But these matte sleeves are great: While they slightly lower colors' intensity, they look and feel amazing imho.
