    Really happy that you got it sorted!
    I would definitely think that the rpm is a few hundred lower at 70mph, you might want to look into the speedometer, and if it's accurate after the change, I would love to have a diesel gearbox on my 3.0 Audi A6, would do a nice difference in fuel economy... Great work mate! 👏👏👏 So happy you got it sorted and save a couple of hundred...😊

      The speed is picked up through the abs so the only thing that would effect the speed is the size of the wheels/tyres 👍🏽

    Nice tip on how to set up the gear linkage. I replaced the gearbox on my Golf 6 and it magically just worked without setting any linkage. I wondered what on earth that lever was for. Now I know. Cheers mate.

  • @Killawife
    @Killawife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That gearbox selector lever actually sets the distance between gears. So if you buy a short-shift kit it usually consists of that lever. I bought one for an S3 8L and had the same thing happen with the thicker pin.

    congrats on the Porsche mate cant wait to see you start that the A3 has been a pain in the butt to you i loved the comment someone buy it quick before something else goes wrong lmfao be honest i think the diesel box will take a lot more punishment than the petrol as the diesel is much higher compression than the petrol my beloved mk5 golf just passed it test on friday then Monday night lost all its drive had to be towed home only to find the intermediate shaft is now toohtless i expect the cause of this is it started life as a 140 bhp then engine swap to 170 its now 220 bhp running gear still 140 and the intermediate shaft was shafted luckiy the toothed gearbox spline was undamaged the golf will ride again

    One issue I have heard about swapping gearboxes with different ratios is that the cruise control no longer works. Think it has to do with the ECU wanting a certain RPM in a certain gear at a certain speed. Might want to check that.

    Didnt realise the box is the same off a FWD car and you can just bolt on the front transfer box for the rear drive....cracking result.
    Man you looked fed up before cjsnging those 3 coilpacks.......glad its done though.....

    • @SavingSalvage
      @SavingSalvage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can do that, although this gearbox was of a 4x4 golf so had a transfer box fitted on it as well. As long as the FWD gearbox has the fittings for a transfer box then all good

    About ratios - you could have put it into each gear and turned the input shaft, then counted the revolutions on the output after 10 turns or so. Then do it for the other box and you could see the difference :)

    I could sense your frustration on that one!, what fascinated me is how the audi got to that state in the first place. It looks like a smart car which hasn't been very well looked after to me. I'm still not that much of a fan of the VAG group, your surprise that the gearbox fits shows that even you are fooled by audis glossy bodywork when it really is just a bloody golf, Leon bits of Octavia in a nice suit. Bearing in mind your new motor and not being nasty bout u spending ur own brass, if I was buying a new one id have a Skoda as I feel the others are taking the pee charging alot more for the same thing. I know ford's did it with my original mk1 focus chassis with volvos of the time & the mazda 3, but now they are separate, to think of all manufacturers of mainstream high volume stuff Ford are "original" and not tied to anybody. I also think it's awful Ford and VW are collaborating on the new Transit and Transporter models which might be cost effective, sadly kills off x2 separate model lines with great sales and reputation so that they can cut costs, nothing else. Anyway old man rant over!!!, 😆😆. I still prefer the Octavia, BUT I've had an idea for the next project, a car I really like for being different,...........................
    The Skoda Yeti! Lovely car!
    Stay safe and be careful. Ben 🚍🚌😷😷

    • @0120raptor
      @0120raptor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ronanwood6891 .Not necessarily. The cars are primarily front wheel drive, only engaging the haldex for 4 wheel drive when needed. Under normal driving conditions the rears aren`t getting any torque at all so the haldex is just freewheeling. It only kicks in under hard acceleration or when the front tyres slip. I`m fairly sure the diff ratios on the petrol and diesel are quite different.

    Also wondering if the speed identified by the instrument cluster will be incorrect due to the change in gear ratios as a result of changing the gearbox. The speed at the wheels would be off resulting in a different vehicle speed to what the speedometer says. Or am I mad?

Anyway love your videos and all the best of luck.
