  • In today's video we refit the rebuilt KO3 turbo and also check the supply and return pipes for flow. I also discover why the turbo seized in the first place!

With the orange nipple in the oil filter, use a philips head screwdriver and push up into the middle of the nipple and the seal will open and lock against the side of the housing. Let it drain then press the screwdriver back up and it'll pop back down and seal again.

You can pop the oil filter drain with a screwdriver. Just press the bottom of it up until it pops in. Then it just presses back in place afterwards. Draining intercooler can be done by drilling small hole in lowest plastic portion, then screw in a wood screw with a thick rubber washer in hole. I usually drain a very small amount each oil change.

I knew a guy with an older A6 2.0T that had the same issue. Oil pick up blocked and engine ended up lunching itself. Full engine rebuild, on him, £2000.
    Audi UK refused to help.
Found out Audi USA had a recall for all cars using the same engine to do a revision on pickup. Audi UK still refused to help. His car was 5 years old when this happened.

i just bought an a3 s line 2.0tfsi from Crapart sold as used uncategorised "runs" with "engine noise"
took sump off and pump balance shaft chain and sprocket is in bits.
    engine needs scrapping
turns out its common on this engine the oil pump balance shaft is over engineered and made of cheese. Get a new chain on it at least as it will break anytime.
various mods for them including balance shaft delete and conversion from chain to gear drive

I tried removing one of them filter housings on a Passat and that was supposed to be 30Nm and I used the correct socket to remove it and it was that tight it rounded the nut off I had to revert to a filter strap around the housing and a ½" breaker bar safe to say it crushed the fibre housing before it come loose, the last person must have either not put oil on the seal or just used all their energy to tighten it up.

A big hint dropped to your family that a parts washer would be a good birthday / xmas present would make you life a lot easier.
Very similar looking filter to my Toyota 1VD-FTV V8 Twin Turbo 4.5 litre diesel in my 200 Series. Every forum I've read emphasises the need to steer clear of aftermarket brands (other than Ryco and Sakura) as the consequences of lunching our engine is a minimum of AU $15,000 for a crate engine. We have also had a rash of fake (in similar Toyota looking packaging) filters on sites like ebay, so the advice is buy genuine from a Toyota dealer, dearer but better.

thats not the latest revision diverter valve, they messed up the revision system with this one, the one you want is 06H-145-710D, if you type that no. in on ebay you should be able to get a genuine one from pierburg fairly cheap, this revision reworks the valve and makes it so there is no rubber diaphragm, fixing the inherent problem with this valve if i were you just go the whole hog and get the GFB+ improved internals kit for some nice sutututu 😉
