I’m getting a zigzag and chicane next week. The supplier I use tried telling me dmm ultra O will work ok and they’ve sold this set up with ultra O to other arborists. I was clear I wanted the petzl ok H frame because it’s designed to work with them, glad I done my homework now! This is useful content, it will save a lot of people wasting money on useless biners for the chicane. Thanks 👍
I've been using a zz plus on drt for a few months now, and it is wonderful. Smooth as silk, and don't have to worry about constantly adjusting a hitch. It accepts an h frame biner from most manufacturers, but it won't rotate all the way around which makes rope attachment a bit confusing at times. If the chicane will only work with the petzl h frame binder then it should be sold as part of the package. I think petzl decided to use some marketing trickery to keep the advertised price of the chicane closer to the rope wrench. Shame on you petzl. Just be honest.
They need to make it clear that you have to have their carabiner beforehand. I bought my Chicane and now I can't use it til I get the carabiner. What a racket!
And at over $25 each one would think the Petzl H frame carabiner would work on every Chicane. I bought three of them and none fit it. I say screw it. I’m gonna use a little 12kN single-action rock climbing carabiner on the Chicane. If it were to fail, the better carabiner on the ZigZag would still hold me.
Even the petzl h proper carabiner is A NIGHTMARE TO wedge in the chicane. Just saying you may as well leave your biner in the chicane I couldn't find one you could move around for quick set up I just leave one in the chicane of I use it.

Are the first gen zz the same with the carabiner compatibility?
