- My Italian friend @KayThePianist and I originally recorded Howl 10 years ago in 2014 🌳 This is our new take on this wonderful piece... arr. for Flute, Alto Flute, and Piano. I filmed video of the lilacs here in Minnesota when they bloomed for a few days in May. Hope you enjoy 🙂

Flute is such an underrated instrument for this song. It gives it a much more soft and homey feel rather than a very grand one with all the strings and brass in the original.
Me personally I can leave strings out cause there are some amazing warm homey songs with strings
@@notcoolcookies yes, of course, but I think Luke here does a great job of simplistic instrumentation that brings a very specific sort of homely vibe.
I do completely agree with you that strings can have a very beautiful and warm sort of sound though
I miss the violin though
Totally agree! The arrangement can bring out a whole different vibe in a song ☺
@@InstrumentManiac that’s why you the goat
That's right, he can do more than just Undertale! And it's absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this.
He did Totoro a few years ago.
His whole channel was Thomas the Tank Engine stuff at one point
Yeah, those were the days... but he did SO MUCH. It's okay that he moved on
IT'S NEVER -JUST- UNDERTALE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
This cover transforms Howl's moving castle into Howl's grooving castle
Hell yeah
Hell yeah
Hell yea.
Hell ye
hell yeah‼️
Commenting before I watch, I am anticipating that I will be emotionally devastated by the beauty of this cover
Edit: I was right. Something about the simplicity of the arrangement makes it feel so much more intimate, almost like a married couple dancing their wedding dance years later in their kitchen. I saw someone else say that this version feels more homey without the strings and brass and I couldn’t agree more, it somehow feels more grounded in everyday beauty than the airy fantasy beauty that the official soundtrack does (which I equally love to death). Thank you much for the care and work you put into every video and every song my man, it’s inspiring.
I don't understand how the hell it is possible to be that good in all instruments.
At first I thought : "Ah, he knows rythm, he knows how to play the notes and that's all". But no. I've been playing the flute for 9 years, and your sound is so f*** amazing.
haha flute was first and favorite instrument lol that's why he's really good in it, but either way he is really good in nearly all the instruments he has showed in his videos, i believe the only ones he struggles with are piano and trombone
Sometimes I wonder if he doesn’t like piano, or if he just has lots of pianist friends to collab with.
@@fantomp2363tbh even when playing synths I notice he plays pretty slowly and then pieces the notes together in editing, so I think the muscle memory just isn’t there (yet?)
Woodwinds were my first and it took me a heck of a long time to click with pianos, so I recognised those tricks right away 😅
@@kaitlyn__LHe does that with drums too
@@Dashie04 that makes total sense. As a saxophonist my sense of rhythm was in my lungs, not my arms, for the longest time lmao
You know he’s locking in wen he wipes the flute out, and mr.clean
When* whips*
Thx
You do need to wipe-dry the inside of wind instruments too though 😉
OH I LOVE IT! Our household is very fond of Studio Ghibli films and we're all pretty sure Joe Hisashi is a musical genius. This is such a beautiful take on the song. Thank you for sharing!
We love lilacs, but I swear they bloom for like ten minutes in Minnesota.
The sad lilac truth!!
Great cover!! Have you though about doing more Ghibli covers in the future? I’d really love to hear The Legend of Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke eventually.
This is just wonderful! I love hearing both the flute and piano sort of criss-crossing with each other through the song, and I got chills listening through every second!
I just saw a live performance of Merry-Go-Round of Life a few days ago and while listening to this, I couldn't help thinking about how wonderfully different renditions of the same song can be.
This is absolutely one of my favorites so far, and I've seen quite a few!
Something in the original I love so greatly is how grandiose the track feels. The song itself, built just like the castle. So many parts working in perfect harmony, all to achieve the same goal. It's so... awesome lol. And though your version is a more dialed in cover, with just a few flutes and a piano, it is still so brilliant to hear. It's an entirely different feeling, so the name I'm thinking of is Luke's Drifting Stable. I can see plains of grass with this large stable slowly sliding across it, horses gallivanting in the area. Enjoying the breeze as this song plays. Such a lovely piece and such a lovely cover.
I love Howl's Moving Castle. It's one of my favorite anime movies. 🏰
Oh my god, yes. I didn't expect this cover but man am I glad that it's here. It's such a beautiful composition as is, I knew that this performance was going to be outstanding. Keep up the incredible work.
This brings back good memories from summer camp…
Sooo beautiful! This is one of my very favorite songs. In fact, I recently purchased a music box of this song specifically, just so I could always hear it. I dressed up as howl for Halloween last year too :) This arrangement will definitely be my go-to from now on when I want to hear this song. it's so well done and clear, a beautiful blend of instruments played expressively!
Just when I watch howl's moving castle..the timing's perfect❤
Bro. How do you keep doing it. The PERFECTLY unison octaves at 1:13 at 2:18?! Bro. Luke is just built different, I swear. 😂Even the phrasing and emphasis is IDENTICAL. How the heck even did you do that. Amazing. Spectacular. Magical. Maniac is too humble. You're just a living legend at this point. Thanks for sharing your amazing talents with us again!! 🙏
Haha thank you Kai!
This version is so nice and peaceful, this is on the list of peices I want to keep practicing. Thank you Luke and Kay for this music cover.
There is nothing more pleasant in the world than waking up and seeing a notification about Luke's new video!
totally wasn't expecting flutes instead of violins, but i love it! keep up the good work :)
my day is perfect now
My girlfriend has been wanting me to learn this on piano so im so happy you made this!!!!!!!!!!!
I never thought you'd ever cover this!! (This is my favorite Ghibli piece) IT MAKES MY HEART SO HAPPY 😭 ❤ Thank you for your hard work performing this as always, Luke!
This is great. I can’t help thinking “if that flute were French horn and oboe parts!”
Simply a perfect rendition. All of the emotion and beauty with such a simple arrangement. It really suits one of the best pieces from Joe Hisaishi's catalogue.
Awesome like allways !
That was truly, fantastically magical. I was focusing on how well the two flutes (and piano) blended together. Your phrasing was impressive as well. It felt like one, continuous piece the whole way through. Don't know how you do it, but it's always a treat to listen to you.
Me and my Grandma love to watch Howl's Moving Castle, and this music is just amazing.
nice job, this absolutely beautful.
Luke PLEASE read these 2 funny stories that just happened to me right now:
1. I'm in an orchestra and I really wanted my conductor to write us an arrangement for 'field of hopes and dreams' and so I let him hear the original plus your version and I ended up showing him quite some if your videos. Fast forward a month to the future we now play merry go round of life when I saw this video on my yt feed I had proof that someone in this world is making closures
2. Right now I was opening my computer, and saw u uploaded this video, but when I tried to open it my internet didn't connect so I restarted the computer, it didn't boot and I was kind of worried, then it suddenly just magically work agian, so I open up my browser to see the video but then it shuts down agian, and once I boot it up agian the mouse moves but the screen is black...
And then Merry go round of life starts mpicturesquely playing in my headphones
Oh. My. Goodness. I've always to hear you cover the Studio Ghibli iconic tunes. I LOVED IT 💕. Can you cover Spirited Away and Porco Rosso, as they're my favorite Studio Ghibli movies beside the Howl's Moving Castle.
I've been waiting for this one for so long.
Nice job !
It’s been such a blast listening to you performing this music outside of thomas, they are so spot-on, keep up the good work, sir. As always, kudos
One of the best song, covered by one of the best dudes. Incredible as always
I’m so excited that you dipped your toe into Ghibli waters! A phenomenal and uplifting performance as always. Thank you Luke!
If you’re looking for another anime track to cover, I think you’d have a fun time with Car 24 from the Cowboy Bebop OST.
This is so beautiful to have a listen to before sleep❤️✨, good night everyone had a great day and did practice a lot..4h’s xd. Luke that is absolutely beautiful keep it up❤️. Gn everyone❤️❤️!
I saw that movie in theaters once almost twenty years ago. I must say it was very impressive.
That shot of the lilacs gently ruffled by the breeze against that blue sky could absolutely be a cut away between scenes in a ghibli movie! Well done, both on the beautiful rendition and on getting such fitting footage
This is so peaceful
I love this song with my heart and seeing a rendition of it done by you fills me with such joy. Thank you
Listening to this after a long day, it's very calming. Gotta love studio Ghibli music. Wonder how other songs, like A town with an ocean view, or Ponyo on the cliff by the sea would sound.
Town with an ocean view 100% would be perfect for a cover
Something like the Totoro or Spirited Away themes would also be cool
or path of the wind
This is absolutely lovely you two!
How can someone be good at that many things
WE NEED THE WORLD TO REVOLVE!!!
Your tone is so beautiful it makes me want to cry. You have so much control. And the perfectly precise tuning when you play an octave duet with alto/C ... marvelous. It's a gorgeous arrangement, and the piano is beautifully and expressively played as well (great job, Kay!). Really, really fantastic job to both of you.
Another amazing video luke! Thanks so much for the howls moving castle cover! This is my most fav song of all time! Keep up the good work
Love it
Is perfect
0:50 i love it
Love it, well played. Got yourself a new sub this morning. 😊

Amazing
Perfect !👌
Sounds awesome man.
As a flute player, I love this!!
As a player, I love this!!
Me too
I love you ❤ your music is beautiful ❤❤❤
I love your channel. Beautiful arrangement of a beautiful song
One of my favorite songs, I’m so glad you made this
Awesome cover ❤
LOVED IT!! :D
I’ve heard this song like once and yet it feels so familiar. Gotta love this.
(Also yet another jump in genre, let’s go)
An absolutely beautiful performance. Bravo, sir.
And channel gets nuked by the notoriously litigious Ghibli copyright lawyers in 3, 2, 1...
If that doesn't happen and this video does well though, might I put in a couple of suggestions?
"City with an Ocean View" from Kiki's Delivery Service
"A Journey" from The Wind Rises
Another great cover of one of my favorite ghibli films!! I am a flute and oboe player, and you are such an inspiration to me. Could you pretty please do a cover of fodlan winds from fire emblem fire houses? I think you could really pull it off, especially with your expertise in stringed instruments 😁
Sad I couldn't be here to see this, but glad it happened! It's so beautiful; especially the beginning.
A major, sad, change has happened to my life concerning band, and this really reaffirms my "woe is me" feeling.
What a beautiful master piece of cover, u guys did perfect like as usual. And as always, adding your personal touch always makes it a delight to listen to 🌻🫶
Late again for the premiere. But holy moly, this...this is the definition of beautiful. I can just start dancing with someone that is beautiful as this...only in my dreams tho...
This song has helped me through this year, so it is nice to see you make a cover of it. Thank you
Joe Hisaishi is the GOAT
Great cover 👍
Im surprised your only making this now!
This song is one of the reasons I started playing an instrument, great retake on the peice!
First I'd like to say that I love all your covers! Next, if you are still taking suggestions id love to see Skyloft or Midna's theme both from the Legend of Zelda series
I’ve been obsessed over this song recently for no good reason and now you drop this!? The universe sometimes decides I may continue to enjoy living. This is an epic cover as always ❤
Day 2 of asking for Canyon Clearance from the old glide minigames on the Xbox 360
2014 being ten years ago makes me feel old...
But seriously great Howl's Moving Castle rendition! As both an aspiring flute player and Studio Ghibli fan, I can honestly say that I love your take on this piece! It brings me to both a dance sort of area as well as a more happy field area in the part starting at around 3:00!
❤
10/10
This bouta be the third iteration of this song on my playlist😂
Didn't skip any single second, liked the video, shared it with my friends, commented on it, hoping for the algorythm to put more earblessings like this cover in my feeds.
Would you like to do one for Princess Mononoke (The legend of Ashitaka)?
Lovely take on one of my favorite Hisaishi themes!
You're really good at crescendos and decrescendos!
I listened to another jazzy version of merry go round of life that was faster paced and both renditions feel entirely different
Я не разумію, чому тут ще нема мільйона підписників при якості контенту на п‘ять мільйонів :)
I liked even before watching the video. I know the good stuff is coming !
Wow! Very cool, could I suggest three songs from Castle In The Sky
◽The Girl Who Fell from the Sky from
◽Robot Soldiers
◽The Forgotten Robot Soldier
Beautiful!!! can you try doing old 8 bit mario music like underwater theme?
Insane work, every time.
I really want to see what u can do about warframe song's 😊 (For Narmer, Cold Below, We all lift together).
I was dreaming about this cover from you. Your style of covering pieces like this is incredibly magical, soft and calm with kinda groovy and funky bits. It feels more fantasy like than original, but both versions are beautiful. Thank you for this
please do more studio ghibli pieces!!!!!!!!
Im going through some stressful times and listening to your absolutely wonderful song has painted some color in my life, you have earned your skills and have fully mastered the art of rallying emotions using your instruments
Relaxing bro
Bro make a video of you preforming the song "Ghost Dances by Barrett"
Hey Luke, why dont you make videos of Touhou music just like with Undertale (after all, touhou was inspiration for toby fox create undertale)
I bet you could make some good things with all of the instruments you can play
☁️
Can you guys please do a little nightmares song. There are multiple different songs, but I believe the best one would be “The Death Waltz” plz do it I love little nightmares I can’t find any other sheet music for it so I tried but everything is just for piano or something else. Please i’m begging you do little nightmares “The death waltz” probably no one will see this, but yeah might as well go and get out in the world.
You are literally the definition of "so many musical instruments I don't know which one to choose! Fuck it ima learn them all" 😂
the wind rises - a journey (a dream of flight) joe hisaishi Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee 🥺🥺🥺
I love it can you make some Minecraft covers plzzz
This is absolutely beautiful, Joe Hisaishi would love this I'm sure. Keep up the incredible work!!!
