Charles Lin That's not necessarily true. While fat can be flavorful, it is not the only element of flavor. Like I said, the best kind of peking ducks are an unique breed that has almost no visible fat.
I just watched Heston Blumenthal (attempt) to recreate this iconic dish and his idea to crisp the skin is so outrageous it's beyond hope. I just dabble in Chinese cooking because my Dad who was a master at Chinese cuisine who was full Chinese. I have made this dish several times knowing it's full origin and having several recipes at hand have been very successful just by hanging it several days, (something which would make any Brit cringe)
+WitchidWitchid actually, Dadong has the best Peking duck in Beijing not Quanjude. And I recommend you to buy Chinese desert in Daoxiangcun. There are around one hundred different kinds of delicious deserts, and all of them are amazing.
I remember a school banquet at this restaurant in 1986. The building looks the same, except the weird neon Donald Duck atop the building was gone by 1996 when I last visited Beijing.
441meatloaf Ah, but, that's where you're wrong, my friend. My parents are both from Asia, and my mum has been to China almost every year for business trips. She too has tried Peking duck in Beijing as well.
I have watched Martin Yan since 1987. He used to host live Chinese cooking show "Yan Can Cook", based out of San Francisco. He really is a gifted master at his craft. Zimmeren came way after Chef Yan.
Shark fins have no taste. It's all in the seasonings and other ingredients. I believe a lot of these Cantonese inspired dishes that are allegedly " very healthy" and thus expensive because they are hard to get, are a way to fool the rich because they want to constantly out do their neighbors. It is still true of the Chinese mentality today where they will spend money on frivolous things just to out do one another.
Martin Yan is the greatest tv personality of all time
Oh, if I were in Beijing, I'd be eating Peking duck like crazy every day!
Barry Danial Beijing also haze and tanks
Barry Danial Peking duck's great, but definitely very fatty. Not sure if your stomach can handle it, lol.
+Charles Lin Then you've never had the real deal. The best peking ducks have almost no fat.
govahnator LOL, but ducks are naturally fatty though. No fat=No flavor.

@Peter Xie: I think you mean desserts, not deserts. =)
That chick can’t even hold her chopsticks properly....

The best vegan Chinese restaurant in NYC is in Chinatown. 5 Mott st. You have to try it. It is a famous place. There vegetarian meat is amazing
There is a highschool right after the restaurant, and I graduated from there in 2010 lol.
I actually had much better Peking Duck in Los Angeles than when I was living in Peking/Beijing.
Speaking of which, according to my mum, Peking duck or roast duck may be considered as boys' food. Almost all boys love to eat duck, she says.
441meatloaf Ah, but, that's where you're wrong, my friend. My parents are both from Asia, and my mum has been to China almost every year for business trips. She too has tried Peking duck in Beijing as well.

Asian rarely get a chance to be on TV. This is why people make fun of Asian when they see someone like him act on a national TV.
That's not true, we like Martin Yan. He teaches great recipes.
Khammouane Khantikone are you both asians? who cares how the man talks, are we all supposed to make fun of everything by duty?
muchomusiclibre good for you
Where are you from, King Tut?
The chinese version of Andrew Zimmern, no?
I have watched Martin Yan since 1987. He used to host live Chinese cooking show "Yan Can Cook", based out of San Francisco. He really is a gifted master at his craft. Zimmeren came way after Chef Yan.
Silly comment. Even Emeril became popular way after Martin Yan.

Shark fin is delicious! Sorry^-^
It doesn't taste like anything actually, what makes it tasty is the soup.
Spymooping Ovaltine ive had it a few times when i was young... yes it is tasteless. I think it's more of a textural thing

nah is taste and feels like extremely Al Dante pasta. The flavor comes from the abalone bisque
