      @@OCMANMEDIA very welcome, man. If I can ask, which one you think better for singing? HK Onyx Studio 4 or Sony SRS XB40? I have a microphone that plug into 3.5mm AUX. Today I'm thinking to purchase 1 of them, please help me to make decision.

    • @OCMANMEDIA

      @@Ellias31773 Honestly When it comes to serious live singing I would say neither of the two speakers are good for that, and thats because the loudness dynamics of live singing is very different from a mastered music which has a fixed loudness dynamics. because of this you will find that when you sing loudly the speakers drivers will start to distort which might give you a bad experience with your singing performance.
      another thing you might notice is that you will need to turn up the volume of the speaker excessively to hear yourself enough, unless of course you first connect the mic to a preamp and possibly a compressor before plugging into the Bluetooth speaker and at this stage you are better off buying a portable PA speaker with proper mic inputs.
      However if you just want to have a bit of personal fun and dont mind the results of the sound then I would go with the Onyx 5 because it has a bigger woofer and might handle a bit more pressure from singing if at all it picks up any signal. I hope this helps

      @@OCMANMEDIA got to report to you this. I went to JBL showroom with $300 in pocket ready to get Harman Kardon 4,5 or JBL Boombox. I tried them with my mini microphone with AUX cable and surprisingly they didn't work well. JBL Charge and Boombox doubled my voice. Harman Kardon 5 responded slowly to my voice so I walked out with nothing. But, I went to random store that sells Anker and Tronsmart brand so I tried Tronsmart Element Force+ and surprisingly it worked out great with my mini microphone ! So I bought them for $59 with 1 year warranty, and I am so happy with my purchase! The JBL sound quality is slightly better than this a little but the powerful 40w is no kidding, the bass I can say deeper than JBL Charge 4. Now my family can enjoy singing on the go, they bring the speaker and microphone with other friends to singing. With $59 I can go wrong with this. Sorry for my messy english.

    Oni My Man I'll just say one thing, You are an artist! This is the one and the only good review of these two speakers on the internet right now. I'll just give you one little tip, at the end of the video try to give everyone your opinion on how both the speakers sound in real life. Trust me your opinion matters to us!
    In my opinion studio 5 sounds much better despite being a mono speaker it has a wider reach on the sound chart, it has a deeper bass with higher and more fine treble which I personally prefer, Plus it has that Smile EQ by default so thats something Bass heads like me always prefer. And no doubt studio 4 is an amazing more flat sounding speaker but that harsh treble on high volume is unbearable! I believe Quality of sound is more important than loudness so for me Onyx Studio 5 is the Winner!

    OCM, te felicito por tu comparación, extraordinaria y muy útil. Un enorme esfuerzo que se ve retribuido en los comentarios de todos quienes escuchamos tu trabajo. Para mí, el ganador es el Onyx 4, precisamente por la definición y belleza que logra en los rangos medios, sin exagerar los bajos y agudos. Sin embargo, al final, estos dos parlantes son increíbles y creo que más que decir cuál es mejor, la cuestión es qué sonido te gusta a ti. Un abrazo.

      thats normal, the Onyx 5 only has one tweeter and one bigger woofer, the 4 and older have 2 tweeters and 2 smaller woofers, which is why the bass of the Studio 5 is so much deeper and louder, but overall sounds better too in real life though, although i personally do think stereo separation is overrated in such a small speaker as they're packed really close together

    • @OCMANMEDIA
      @OCMANMEDIA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comment, I greatly appreciate it 😀. the Onyx 4 is an awesome speaker, but as you mentioned home theater, if you are going to be using the Onyx to watch movies then make sure to buy an Aux cable for connection, because movies go out of sync with audio when watching it via Bluetooth connection. its worst on some video services like youtube / netflix etc, also on IOS devices, android is not too bad. but if you use an Aux connection you will be fine all round. I just did some researching on the Nyne Rock speaker, really love the design! sadly its not easily available in the UK, hope to get my hands on one, would like to see how it matches with my current lineup.

    Good review. The problem with youtube reviews is that you actually can't test sound compared to listening in person. I would have to have them side by side in front of me to actually hear the sound. I am sure that the onyx 5 sounds better and it should it's an improved speaker. I have the onyx 4 and it sounds great I am very satisfied. Thanks for the review.

    • @OCMANMEDIA
      @OCMANMEDIA  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comment. You are right, no one can really reproduce true 1:1 of a speakers behaviour, would be equal to having them right in front of you and testing it as you said, however if you don't have the ability to get the two speakers and try them back to back in reality then this recordings (if done properly with some level of accuracy and consistency) can get you very close to the speakers true sound character, and this can help you to reference two or multiple speakers quickly and make the best decision for your purchase.

    The HK 4 definitely stands out in the higher-mid range, you can really hear the different in the guitar solo part. But overall the HK 5 give a thicker, deeper bass, snare sound, vocal are clear too. So if you are into classical, jazz then the HK 4, if you're into pop, hip hop, rock then the HK 5 is the way to go. I personally would choose the HK 5 for overall listening.

    I have a total of six HK Onyx Studio 4 speakers now (four black and two white to give some contrast) and I've found that the Studio 4 is slightly compromised when it comes to directional sound. The "sweet spot" is quite narrow. But I actually prefer to have mine lying down on a flat surface when playing. To me they sound better that way, especially if I pair them up in party mode. Of course I would expect nothing less than the Onyx Studio 5 being an improvement on its previous version, but I'm quite happy with the Onyx Studio 4 for now. I brought one of them to a small gathering prior to a workplace event and it played LOUD and proud without the sound becoming distorted. I like both dance, rhythm and blues, hard rock and metal, folk music, orchestral movie scores and the occasional catchy pop song, so I get to find out what's the strong suits of this speaker and what's not.

    Its tough. For one I'm listening to a recording that has been compressed and streamed over wifi to my laptop speakers. So I know right of the bat this is not an ideal comparison. And each SEEMS to play better than the other on different types of music. The 5 does seem more balanced. But almost too balanced. Muffled in many cases. I enjoy the more lively 4.
    Right now we have a 1 that is on its way out. Cuts out pretty often on its own. We are looking to replace it. Can't find much that compares to these Harman Kardons. The Studio 4 seems to be a bit more my style. I prefer the more raw sound of bright highs.

    To me, even though the Onyx Studio 4 doesn't have a strong bass as the 5 does, it returns a crisper and 'real' voice, which makes it a better choice personally, as I will use it for both listening music and watching movies

    FIRST listen to them both in a store! After watching this video I was 99% sure I would buy Studio 5 but when I heard it live it sounded so "mono", as only half of it was playing and other produced some bass. When I was switching from 4 to 5 on the same track it seemed like on 5 sound was concentrating at one spot while 4 was filling the room + it has nicer high range.

    • @OCMANMEDIA
      @OCMANMEDIA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      very good point, hearing a speaker Live will always sound different depending on the listening distance and environment that the speaker is placed in, and the sound can change from place to place.
      These recordings are mostly targeted to hear the relative difference in tonal and frequency reproduction between the two speakers. You cant always use it to judge between stereo and mono although I try to capture a little of that also in the recordings.

    Btw. 5:05-5:12 of the video should show everyone the difference in the two speakers. While the 5 is bassier it doesn’t separate the sound as well or hit the high notes. I think if you like hip hop or very bass thumping music the 5 is your speaker but if you want better (cleaner) highs the 4 is your choice. Both sounds great but for me the 5 sounds more amplified as if intended as an outside device. the 4 is nicer looking for a living room. Nice video though. btw Used apple ear buds to listen.

    Hola, yo tengo dos "harman kardon studio 4", y a parte que ya individualmente suenan muy bien (uso aplicacion de equalizacion poweramp) con canciones grabadas a flac, con la aplicacion harman kardon, en modo estereo, suenan muy bien, de lujo. Creo que depende del gusto de cada persona. Harman kardon 4, tiene un sonido mas frio que el 5, graves profundos pero mas frios en el golpe final que la version 5. Esta muy equilibrado la version 4, pero mas frio en sonido. Dependera del gusto de cada persona. Si quiere un sonido un poco mas extenso pero que pierda un poco de nitidez, ira por el harman 5. Mas nitidez fria ira por el harman 4. Por mi experiencia y gusto, los karman 4, suenan con un buen equalizador y grabacion flac, muy muy bien. Saludos, buena review.

    Damn that onyx5 looks gorgeous. Seems to have a bit more headroom to it than the 4 does. However there is definitely a wider soundscape and better highs coming out of the 4. Both sound great but I prefer the 4 for most genres demonstrated here mostly because of that stereo separation that you cant get from a mono speaker...(jazz demo made it very evident)
    ...but damn that 5 looks so good...and that counts alot and it did sound equal or better on a couple of those tracks. Great direct comparison. I already have an onyx 2 and it sounds just like the 4 does...still love it...but I expect there will be a onyx 5 in my near future too. Harmon K does it best at this price point.

      joe monroe yeah absolutely right, I love how they innovate with beautiful shaped designs and also focus a lot on their sound quality, then they present it all at a competitive price point. good biz tactics. Lol.
      You mentioned having the Onyx 2, and moving from 2 to the 5 you might find it sounds a little flat of course with bit more punch, and if you like a stereo sound stage like the studio 2 or 4 then I would hold off from getting the 5 just yet, Hopefully they will release a stereo version of the studio 5 as a new studio 6, and that would be worth upgrading to. I’m looking forward to what they would come up with next in the Onyx series.😀

    Studio 5 has a modern signature, punchy. Studio 4 is more neutral, traditional, more hifi. I prefer Studio 4 sound, it´s more musical for my ears, but Studio 5 is nicer for parties, and more relaxed listening and It´s very impressive for edm, cinematic music and drum bass are very pleasant. Both Studio´s have a very good bass response. I didn´t test it but i think they are very easy to equalize. Someone said here, that Studio 4 is better stereo and Studio 5 better mono, so i´m curious to know how it sound a paired stereo comparison ;-)
    The design?! Harman Kardon is top! The look and feel?! Studio 4, more desktop; Studio 5 more portable, at least easier to carry :-)

      Yeah absolutely the Onyx 5 will rock a party. Sadly the Onyx 5 can only pair as a dual mono, so it will not separate the channel across both speakers, you will get a doubling of the mono sound, but on the onyx 4 you can set it to pair as a L/R stereo. so it can fairly be compared between the two.

    Overall the listening pleasure is from 5 even though a little muddy comparatively.. separation of sound clarity is better in 4. General public will always go for plesure.

    Only thing stopping me from getting the 5 is lack of stereo. Why would they leave that out? I'll stick to the 4 as the sound is very good.

      Yeah true, the missing stereo in the 5 is a bit surprising, I guess its a sales strategy, adding stereo to the 5 will Kill the 4, people really love the 4, like you said it sounds good

    I have both speakers but I must say I feel the 4 was just a more complete speaker overall. The 5 does not have a microphone which I never knew I loved until I didn’t have it. However I like the richer sound the 5 produces. Another thing I like more about the 5 is that there are no pegs holding it up which did get annoying and took away from the sleek design. I haven’t had any problems with the 5 falling/getting knocked over. I do prefer the 4 more just because it seems like a more finished speaker while the 5 still needed a little more work. I can’t wait for the 6 I know that will be the best.

    Anyone know if the onyx 4 has latency when connected via aux cable? My goal is to buy 4 of them, install them in each corner of my room, and connect my $2000 Kawai ES8 digital piano to them.I currently own the Onyx 5 but I’m having latency issues and can’t play like this. Or if anyone knows how I can fix the latency issue that would be cool too.

    Nicely done video! I'm surprised so many seem to prefer the Onyx 4, though. Based on purely this video, it sounds so thin and tinny, even hollow compared to the 5. And I don't mean just the bass extension, but the entire sound signature. I was looking at them as both are currently deeply discounted here, 4 for 100€ and 5 for 200€. I was hoping the 4 would win out as I don't think I can justify 200€ for a speaker right now, but based on this video hard justify the 4's price either, as low as it is.
    On a side note it would've been useful to have examples with vocals, but I guess it's a matter of finding suitable royalty-free music at that point.

      Thanks for your comment, Really appreciate it.
      The recordings in the video are not meant to represent true 1:1 of the speakers sound but it really comes close. chances are if you hear these speakers in real time it may sound a bit different from this recording, and this is because of room interaction and speaker positioning, different rooms will make a speaker sound differently even when using exactly the same recording technique .
      So Instead, the recordings are best used to accurately judge tonal and sound stage differences between two or more speaker recordings made in exactly the same conditions.
      So in short, if speaker A sounds more bassy than speaker B in the recording it will most likely be true even in 1:1 real-time listening, however, it doesn't mean that speaker B's bass is bad or lacking.
      just like in this video the Onyx 5 might sound fuller than the 4 but it doesn't mean the 4's sound is hollow in reality, In fact, the 4 is a great sounding speaker, but once you put a recording against another the "better" [subjective] sound will come through making the other sound inferior.
      hope I didn't bore you. lol
      I would say give the 4 a try you won't regret it, the bass is really good and clean, however, if you want that bit more punch in the bass and don't mind mono sound then it's definitely 5.
      about the vocal samples: that's a great suggestion, and I plan to add more vocal references in future work, have to build a new playlist.
