We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning th-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

This is one of the best reviews i ever seen. 3 weeks ago i bought 2 OnyxS4, and they are amazing. The quality is perfect, the sound is clear and somtimes depending of the audio source you feels like you get a external subwoofer too.

mine has the aux problem too. Too bad as i can’t use it to play games. Latency makes games unplayable, and the way the aux behaves makes it not a solution either

If not, I think I know what that was: if you get notifications while playing music, the music considerably lowers/hesitates. I know you've figured it out if you still have the HKOS4.

Good review. I tested out a used harmon with the aux port and bluetooth, videos on youtube using the galaxy 7 phone. I had no drop outs so it may be certain speakers with defects or the phone. I also tested it on the echo dot and performed the same. I guess i lucked out on a used speaker at half the price. Sounds great. I to wish the covers were removable in case it gets damaged. I am very happy with this speaker. Thanks for the review

Jovan Connery I have not compared the Onyx 3 & 4 personally, however I heard that they are not much different in terms of sound Quality. The major difference is battery life and connectivity. If you ask me I would choose the Onyx 4, simply because you can achieve a Stereo L/R sound if you have two speakers, this immediately gives you much better sound stage especially if you plan to set up with TV in the middle, the Onyx 3 can only do dual sound and not stereo. Secondly is battery life , with Onyx S4 you get extra 2 hrs, to me that is still negligible because the Onyx battery is still very poor compared to other brands. Hope this helps.

In this video I showed a quick preview hiw to remive it, you have to be patient with it, but you need to apply a bit more strength in pulling it. But pls take care as you do to avoid damage.

I used the Pry tools found in the iPhone 4 battery replacement kit, it is very cheap on eBay or amazon, however you can use anything that can fit in the thin space, just don’t use anything too sharp like knives etc to avoid scratches or damage. Whatever you do just take special care, gently pull it out little by little go round it will start to come off.
Kevin Méndez I also felt the same way with my onyx, I really thought it was sealed until I was told by a HK staff that it is not sealed, so I am pretty sure yours is not sealed too. although I keep telling you to take care when trying to remove it You still need to apply significant amount of pulling force to succeed. I might do a very short video about it when I finish working on a current video, so It might take a while and I can’t promise it soon, but I will try to do it if it helps other too.

@@OCMANMEDIA I received my Onyx Studio 4 and love it!! I did modify it as to where the usb port will charge the internal battery! How cool is that? I also changed the battery from its original ICR22650 Lithium Ion battery (3,000 mAh otherwise known as 3Ah to one of my 12 Ah Lithium Polymer batteries (authentic 12 Ah as well. Not cheap chinese fakes). I also installed a charging system for the battery that charges the battery @ about 2 amps so you can charge and use the speaker at the same time. Now it's even more portable and has better output power on battery power as well due to my batteries having an output current capabilitie that is far superior to the original. I did that modification and I have used the speaker at full volume for over 9 hours and the battery is still not dead. Plus the original battery charging system from the amp board is still able to charge the battery like normal from the 19 volt input.

Caio Lessa hey I’am already working on a comparison video between the two, hopefully video should be up soon or by next weekend. In terms of your question it really depends on your sound preference both speakers sound great in their own right, However they sound very different, so if you are looking for deeper resonating rumbling bass and warmer sound then go with the Aura S2, but if you want clarity and detail in your sound (still with very good bass) then go for the Onyx S4. In terms of multi speaker connectivity the Onyx wins because you can set the speakers as stereo L/R but On the Aura you only get ‘dual sound’ which is basically a duplicate or copy of the other speaker and not stereo. Volume wise they both can go loud enough to fill a small to medium sized room , however the Aura can go even louder with minimal distortion or processing at max volume. Look out for the sound comparison video as I Put both speakers head to head across various genres of Music to give better impression of performance. Hope this helps. Please let me know which one you finally choose.

Resetting the speaker shouldn’t really affect the sound quality, it simply reverts the speaker to factory setting meaning it will forget all previously connected devices and settings. So the answer is No, it will not affect the performance of the speaker.
Not defect on specific device, auto shutoff after 1 sec when «no volume» is detected! Contacted HK requesting update or access to apk. Really annoying when playing movies through aux on the go.

random stuff Yes absolutely, you can take it off and put it back on again. It has padded holes on the speaker and studs on the grill, you simply align them together and push into place. It can be very tough to remove the grill at first but when you succeed once it becomes easier. Hope this helps.

Wow! Quality video right here!! I honestly thought it said 136k subs.. I have the Onyx Mini and it syncs well with video using my iPad. That’s weird this one doesn’t. But maaaan those legs not being detachable is a joke, what the hell were they thinking?! Anyways, keep up the good work! 👍👍

OCMAN MEDIA Yea, I got sometime last year! The form factor is nice, it’s small and easy to take with you. Tbh I don’t know how its portability compares to other BT speakers in the same price range (whatever that is, they keep going on sale.) The design is nice, it doesn’t have the legs, or anything that protrudes, but if I have to say something I guess it would be when moving it with one hand, while it’s playing, it’s a bit awkward with the passive bass radiator being in the way. Because of its shape not being rectangular and easy to pick up, I would have preferred a tiny two finger handle, like on the Studio. If I’m listening to music in the kitchen and moving to the living room, iPad in one hand... Absolutely not a biggie, but it is something I’ve noticed. As for sound quality, I’ve mostly been using it for TH-cam and movies, never had it with me outside. It is a really great sounding speaker, especially for its size, but perhaps not for things like rock music, it’s more for bass driven music imo and I had to use EQ to boost the mids and highs. I think it pretty much sounds like you described the Studio, but smaller! Placement and room size is a huge factor, since the audio bounces of whatever is behind it and makes it sound bigger. Now looking at the Studio, because it’s on sale for €130 and I have a €30 gift card, so we’ll see! 🙂 Good luck with the channel, with videos like this I’m sure the channel will grow fast! 👍

With regards to sound quality and power, compared to studio 3, what can you say..do you advice taking 4 than 3? Coz right now I have two studio 3, and I want to add more..
I always like to go for the newer versions in anything because you (ideally) benefit from newer electronics etc, but I would say if you like the onyx 3 and can get it cheaper than the onyx 4 then just stick to the Onyx 3 if sound quality is your primary concern, there is not much difference between the two. however if you are thinking of pairing 3 -100 speakers together without the use of any 3rd party device (like Chrome Audio) to wirelessly connect them then Onyx 4 will be ideal because you can pair up to 100 onyx 4, but beware the onyx 4 cannot pair with onyx 3 so it might be best for you to just stick with the Onyx 3 and workout a way to connect more of it to your existing audio setup.

This or the onyx studio 3? And why? Is the difference too big in the bass and clarity department?
Jovan Connery I have not compared the Onyx 3 & 4 personally, however I heard that they are not much different in terms of sound Quality. The major difference is battery life and connectivity. If you ask me I would choose the Onyx 4, simply because you can achieve a Stereo L/R sound if you have two speakers, this immediately gives you much better sound stage especially if you plan to set up with TV in the middle, the Onyx 3 can only do dual sound and not stereo. Secondly is battery life , with Onyx S4 you get extra 2 hrs, to me that is still negligible because the Onyx battery is still very poor compared to other brands.

Pls help!! How can I remove the front grill/cover of the unit?? I spilled some stuff over it and now it needs washing, and it isn’t waterproof!!
In this video I showed a quick preview hiw to remive it, you have to be patient with it, but you need to apply a bit more strength in pulling it. But pls take care as you do to avoid damage.

I used the Pry tools found in the iPhone 4 battery replacement kit, it is very cheap on eBay or amazon, however you can use anything that can fit in the thin space, just don’t use anything too sharp like knives etc to avoid scratches or damage. Whatever you do just take special care, gently pull it out little by little go round it will start to come off.

Kevin Méndez I also felt the same way with my onyx, I really thought it was sealed until I was told by a HK staff that it is not sealed, so I am pretty sure yours is not sealed too. although I keep telling you to take care when trying to remove it You still need to apply significant amount of pulling force to succeed. I might do a very short video about it when I finish working on a current video, so It might take a while and I can’t promise it soon, but I will try to do it if it helps other too.

@@OCMANMEDIA I received my Onyx Studio 4 and love it!! I did modify it as to where the usb port will charge the internal battery! How cool is that? I also changed the battery from its original ICR22650 Lithium Ion battery (3,000 mAh otherwise known as 3Ah to one of my 12 Ah Lithium Polymer batteries (authentic 12 Ah as well. Not cheap chinese fakes). I also installed a charging system for the battery that charges the battery @ about 2 amps so you can charge and use the speaker at the same time. Now it's even more portable and has better output power on battery power as well due to my batteries having an output current capabilitie that is far superior to the original. I did that modification and I have used the speaker at full volume for over 9 hours and the battery is still not dead. Plus the original battery charging system from the amp board is still able to charge the battery like normal from the 19 volt input.
Anthony Volkman amazing!!! Well I hope Harman will learn from this Mod as their battery system is on the poor side amongst the other brands. Good job man!

Caio Lessa hey I’am already working on a comparison video between the two, hopefully video should be up soon or by next weekend.
In terms of your question it really depends on your sound preference both speakers sound great in their own right, However they sound very different, so if you are looking for deeper resonating rumbling bass and warmer sound then go with the Aura S2, but if you want clarity and detail in your sound (still with very good bass) then go for the Onyx S4.
In terms of multi speaker connectivity the Onyx wins because you can set the speakers as stereo L/R but On the Aura you only get ‘dual sound’ which is basically a duplicate or copy of the other speaker and not stereo. Volume wise they both can go loud enough to fill a small to medium sized room , however the Aura can go even louder with minimal distortion or processing at max volume.
Look out for the sound comparison video as I Put both speakers head to head across various genres of Music to give better impression of performance.

i just wondering have you ever reset the speaker? i resetted it so that my mom bluetooth isn't connecting to it. Does it affect the sound/speaker?
Resetting the speaker shouldn’t really affect the sound quality, it simply reverts the speaker to factory setting meaning it will forget all previously connected devices and settings. So the answer is No, it will not affect the performance of the speaker.

Not defect on specific device, auto shutoff after 1 sec when «no volume» is detected! Contacted HK requesting update or access to apk. Really annoying when playing movies through aux on the go.
Ruben if yours is still within warranty then you can send it back and ask for a replacement or refund. I got mine replaced with a new one.

Is Is Possible To Take The Grill back On Again ?
random stuff Yes absolutely, you can take it off and put it back on again. It has padded holes on the speaker and studs on the grill, you simply align them together and push into place. It can be very tough to remove the grill at first but when you succeed once it becomes easier. Hope this helps.

David Gardell the legs! yeah sometimes Their creative designs come with a downside. You have the Mini? Does it sound good? had my eyes on it before I went for the Onyx Studio. I’m surprised it functions better with video than the Onyx Studio. Anyway thank you very much for your comments greatly appreciated. Still very new to the TH-cam, not yet doing it fulltime but I hope to get there.
OCMAN MEDIA Yea, I got sometime last year! The form factor is nice, it’s small and easy to take with you. Tbh I don’t know how its portability compares to other BT speakers in the same price range (whatever that is, they keep going on sale.) The design is nice, it doesn’t have the legs, or anything that protrudes, but if I have to say something I guess it would be when moving it with one hand, while it’s playing, it’s a bit awkward with the passive bass radiator being in the way. Because of its shape not being rectangular and easy to pick up, I would have preferred a tiny two finger handle, like on the Studio. If I’m listening to music in the kitchen and moving to the living room, iPad in one hand... Absolutely not a biggie, but it is something I’ve noticed.
As for sound quality, I’ve mostly been using it for TH-cam and movies, never had it with me outside. It is a really great sounding speaker, especially for its size, but perhaps not for things like rock music, it’s more for bass driven music imo and I had to use EQ to boost the mids and highs. I think it pretty much sounds like you described the Studio, but smaller! Placement and room size is a huge factor, since the audio bounces of whatever is behind it and makes it sound bigger.
Now looking at the Studio, because it’s on sale for €130 and I have a €30 gift card, so we’ll see! 🙂

With regards to sound quality and power, compared to studio 3, what can you say..do you advice taking 4 than 3? Coz right now I have two studio 3, and I want to add more..
I always like to go for the newer versions in anything because you (ideally) benefit from newer electronics etc, but I would say if you like the onyx 3 and can get it cheaper than the onyx 4 then just stick to the Onyx 3 if sound quality is your primary concern, there is not much difference between the two. however if you are thinking of pairing 3 -100 speakers together without the use of any 3rd party device (like Chrome Audio) to wirelessly connect them then Onyx 4 will be ideal because you can pair up to 100 onyx 4, but beware the onyx 4 cannot pair with onyx 3 so it might be best for you to just stick with the Onyx 3 and workout a way to connect more of it to your existing audio setup.
