    • @howdywowey2165
      @howdywowey2165 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Teochewtuahang The difference is the microsecond targeting ability by utilizing multiple onboard computers, radars, and thermal systems that are integrated together.
      WW2 AA rounds relied on proximity fuses and the "Gunners' Ability to Predict" aircraft location. The "Gunners' Ability to Predict" has been replaced by multiple sensors (radars & thermal) used in conjunction with multiple threaded on-board computers to determine the aircraft location. That calculated location is determined multiple times per second and fed into the targeting system and 35mm round itself. All this happens in real time.

    Without a doubt the Rheinmetall it is one of the world's best maker of this systems and other similar weapon systems.
    Not just a Gepard, here we have and the newer models, like a: 'Sky shield', 'Sky ranger', the newest 'Sky ranger' 30mm with KCA cannon, which comes in combination with two missiles and one laser cannon, Oerlikon Millenium CIWS and so on.
    Anyway with all respect to all other prominent competitors, like French Nexter, Turkish 'Aselsan Korkut 35mm', Korean 'K30 Biho', Russian 'Tunguska'/'Pantsir S' and other similar systems. But for me generally speaking the German Rheinmetall it's simply the best.

    The ZSU-23-4 Shilka is armed with four TWENTY-THREE mm autocannons, not 14.5mm heavy machine guns as described in the video. The Gepard's three-man crew consists of driver, tank commander, and GUNNER- as the guns are autocannons, it has no need for a loader.
    How did your researchers and editors miss such glaring mistakes?

    • @bloetsnoe9410
      @bloetsnoe9410 ปีที่แล้ว

      0:33, 2:56 "This tank is operated by a crew of three people. A commander, a driver and a loader."
      3:35 "This is the hatch shared by the commander and the gunner."
      hm... Also some more corrections and details:
      The gunner is sitting on the right and the commander sitting on the left side of the turret. That thing on top of the left side periscope is a (removable) remote control the commander can use to turn and aim the turret when standing and looking out of the opened hatch. It also has some optics with a small zoom as far as I remember.
      Fire control computer is sitting in the back, behind the gunner and commander. It takes almost the whole space of the turret behind the crew. In front are only displays and controls.
      There is nothing transfered to the tracking radar. The gunner sees the search radar pings on a screen and marks any target there. Then the tracking radar is activated, opens up and tries to get a lock on the marked target which can fail and needs to be checked by the gunner. The IFF is signaled by a small box if the target is identified as friend or foe, but the gunner always uses optical reconnisance (through the periscope) to validate the target. Then the gunner can pull the trigger (push actually) and open fire.
      Also the search radar is really only for searching the sky, the tracking is only done with the tracking radar. Hence the names.
      And aditionally, the search radar can stay down/off when there is radar data transfered over radio, from a big radar somewhere else or from awacs.
      Source: I was a gepard gunner. (some time ago so I don't know the newest upgrades. But I don't think things changed that much.)
      But all in all a nice video. Keep it up.
      Edit: Bit nitpicking, but you would never shoot on a target moving away from you (as depicted in some parts of the video here).

'shilka' has excellent characteristics of cross-country ability and speed surpassing the indicated analogues. so why did it only need to say 'transported on a protractor' ??? I even had a doubt that the author added analogues to the comparison. as far as everyone knows, a wide variety of anti-aircraft systems have been created in the USSR, but the most important thing is that many new such systems have already been created in Russia. Why are only the specified ones selected?

    If you want same guns as gepard you have to get it from germany but exist possiblity that soon it might be avaliable in poland as well (although i'm not sure if license polish state bought includes ability to sell them abroad) as they recently started aquireing and fielding them after 30 years from date of aquitisiton, so they might want to start a local production of thoose autocanons.

    "Advanced electronics" is a cute expression when you consider it was introduced in 1976. In fact even the successor to the Gepard is now being replaced already. I also don't think the Gepard can shoot the AHEAD munition. There is a 35mm variant but that is for the MANTIS and the related systems such as the Skyranger. The Gepard munition has a belt carving which is why it had to be reproduced by Rheinmetall specifically for Ukraine. I doubt Rheinmetall makes AHEAD munition with a belt carving and that the Gepards are upgraded with an induction system.

      I agree 110% we can even think this "thing" cannot distinguish friends from ennemies, we would all laught to see Shilkas or tunguska on russians side. Germans sent 30 Guépards with only 6000 rounds at start ( to show it's useless ?) ammos just rebuilt in ... Swiss. 30 units 4 km range on 900km front is a joke.Only logical use for 🇺🇦I think is demining or use it like serbians did with Shilka against troops ( civilians in Serbia). This guepards in Ukraine are totaly outdated ( optronics) just good to say "we gave tons.." bad joke.😒

    Gephard AA is not compatibel with air burst amunition. Sensors at end of barrel is only for measuring speed of projectile. But its maybe possible to integreate. The Gephard is much older than air burst amunition.
    The next generation of german AA will have one barrel with air burst amunition

      The german Gepard A2 version was upgraded to airburst (ahaed) ammo in late ´90/early 20´ along with a digital fire control system. This is now the problem in ammunition supply, because german stocks are empty and it is only produced in switzerland, who denie supplying countries in war.
