@jrrr9219 plays as well as it did on ps2 but with better controls and rewind and save states. Extras like extra framerate and res would be nice but they still play well
So far it’s more a case of inconsistency. Tomb Raider Legend is rough, but Sly Cooper and Clone Wars actually look fine. No idea why Ms. Croft got the short end when it came to how the emulator handles her game’s engine.
@@BloodRedFox2008emulators sometimes need manual adjustments between games until they are 100% perfect. I love Gamecube Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1&2, but its optimal settings render 90% of the library unplayable in that mode. When you boot original disc it recalibrates for each game disc so you never noticed this problem on original hardware.

I used to burn a lot of blurays. But I also used to be a videographer so a lot of what I was doing was put on DVD for cheap and Bluray for a premium. I don't really do that stuff much anymore but my brother does stuff like that all the time and I'll tell you if you ever ask someone to make a wedding video for you, you want it on Bluray. It really makes a difference.
@mikeuk666 for people who don't mind renting everything instead of owning with the right to resell if you want or need to down the line. The only good digital store front is GOG honestly. I equate this to buying vs renting a home. Renting means just giving thousands of dollars a year to rent a place that you can never own and never get any of your money back if you decide to move. Like I still owe about 60k on my home but if I sold it today I could sell it for nearly 200k when the original price was only 90k. It's not just a place to stay but also am investment. Same exact thing applies to video games to me. I have games I paid normal or less than normal price for that are now worth a couple hundred bucks.
i hope they can bring back Fall of Cybertron and War for Cybertron into a Transformers collection. And physical too with all DLC and additional content!!!

So Capcom adopted that style and tone of that crap for RE5 and RE6 (Capcom even made the Red Queen canon in DarkSide Chronicles) and it almost KILLED the franchise. That's why Capcom went back to Survival horror with RE7.
They already had a 3DS version of Luigi's Mansion 1... I don't understand why they couldn't just give us Luigi's Mansion 1&2 HD... I actually would've bought that.
Since I use GOG I did burn some offline installers, but some games I will need bluray for, and yes I do have a bluray drive in my computer as I bought the fractal POP Air cause it has two 5.25" bays which fits my BR Drive and memory card dock.
Thanks for the case suggestion. I've been looking to build a computer and have been annoyed by all the cases without 5.25" drive bays as I still have some old physical games that require a disk drive to play. And the other ones that are available have really restrictive airflow, so thanks for that

I've been trying to find information on a Blu-ray burner. But there's so much junk on the market that appears to break after 3-6 months of frequent use. Then there's a bunch with copy protection meaning I can't just back up my movies and games. So overall I decided to just ignore Blu-ray options for my PC. But the Gog disc burning for backup is an awesome idea that I would very much be interested in producing myself.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single modern PC case that had a CD/DVD drive when I built my PC. Games on PC don't have any physical copies either. I didn't make the choice to buy only digital on PC. That "choice" was made for me; much to my chagrin.
I bought a Cooler Master MasterBox NR400 two years ago, Micro ATX case with a disc drive slot and tempered glass. If you can track that down, that might suit you.
You have a pc tho…. You don’t need a physical media drive… not to mention you still get the choice as you can purchase an external drive and do what you please lol
I bought Fall of Cybertron on Steam before it was delisted and so I still have access to it, but I regret not also getting War for Cybertron, too. And it would be really nice to have the online reenabled, so I hope they do come back.
My backlog of games could get me through many years of an apocalypse if I so happened to have bunker with a tv, my PS5 and electricity. But no internet would mean I could not download any games. It would be like the old Twilight Zone episode where the guy has all the time in the world to read books after a nuclear attack but then he breaks his reading glasses.
None of my actual computers have disc drives anymore but i have a couple external disc drives that i honestly still use fairly frequently. I just find the external more convenient since i can move it between computers so easily.
I'm one of the few blu ray burners. I had a vision in mind. I burned all the DBZ episodes and movies with the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack on them onto 4 disks. That shit would've been hundreds of dollars to buy in legit disks and crunchyroll doesn't stream DBZ with that audio
Once those transformers games are relisted I am buying them asap as I don't want to have to get out my 360 just to play them (plus 360 emultion fir those games still have allot of issues).
Disappointing about the Blu-ray info, I've got a huge film collection, 1500+ films on Blu-ray, and love the quality of them. Streaming still isn't a good alternative when you're looking for 'quality'. Hopefully there'll still be a niche market for people like me.
When you have companies who have the ability to alter or take away different parts of their content through their digital platforms; it's really good to enjoy content through physical media that's unaltered, provided of course you don't download the updates mainly for video games. With movies, there's really no worries.
i’ve just bought a bluray burner a couple of months ago to transfer my grandma’s home movies as digital files to discs. i thought about pirating uhd movies, but each disc that size is about $10 it seems which makes it really not as worth it to me.
Sony is not killinig physical media. This what is about: 1) this doesn’t affect any Territories outside Japan 2) this is about CD-R, DVD-R, BD-R not pressed Disc Physical media ain’t going anywhere Physical games are safe on PS5. It Does not affect neither games nor films on BD and UHBD. There are no reoson to panic.
If it took the community many years to get PS3 emulation mostly functional on PC, I can only imagine how long sonys emulator will take. If it works great from the start then I'll be really bewildered.
Well actually- it should be easier for Sony to make an emulator because their development is not hindered by unpublished information about how the PS3 works and legal red tape that RPCS3 has to tiptoe around like avoiding infringement on Sony's code(which is copyrighted)...

I JUST saw a video yesterday about a breakthrough in disc technology wherein a single disc would hold 1.2 PETABITS!!!!! That's almost 200TB ON ONE DISC!!!!!! - Do you think this could revive disc formats??? I think it's it AWESOME and REALLY SHOULD come to market!! Having a (near)permanent medium that could hold 3 or 4 UNCOMPRESSED 8K Movies would be a GREAT way to have a resurgence of the non-streaming, ACTUALLY OWNING of media! And this would also apply to games too.... You could fit EVERY C.o.D. game, PLUS the Emulators, on 1 disc for say the PS6.... and it would never 'go offline' like it WILL on GamePass, etc.. PLUS if it had a decent read/write speed, then you'd have 1 disc that holds more than ANYTHING available in ANY FORMAT currently available (in a single drive, USB, disc, stick, etc) What the largest SSD available right now?? Considering that game streaming on a massive scale is completely unrealistic (similar to how switching everyone over to electric cars would totally overload the electric grid), I would say that a larger disc format is most likely the most realistic solution to games growing larger in file size. You'd still need the SSD, though, to install the game on from the disc. You're not going to play huge games from a disc with decent load times, ever. But yes, 8K movies will need to be on disc for the best quality.
The news about Sony stopping production of blu-rays was a little weird for me when I first saw it, but the clarification of it being focused on rewritable media and movies makes sense. Maybe it's because I'm from Brazil and Blu-ray movies are super expensive over here, but I never saw anyone who had a dedicated BD player at home, and even in electronics stores I'd barely see them for sale, with most stores having just one model for sale, if they even had any. Hell, I didn't even know rewritable BD were a thing!

Sony isn't stopping production; they're only cutting production. The Japan newspaper containing the initial report only speculated that Sony would stop production sometime in the future.

They had both Transformers War and Fall of cybertron on PS4 and Xbox One years ago but they got delisted with the Ultimate Alliance ports, just a matter of being relisted at this point unless it's a remaster

MY computer still has a DVD burner drive (it does kinda look like a DVD player but vertical instead of horizontal) mostly so I could also watch movies on it. and Transformers games only one I played was the one for the 1st live action movie
Sonic Adventure 3 would sell a LOT i don't know why SEGA just don't do that, also do remake of the first two games, Nintendo do this all the time, why SEGA don't do this too
I haven't played any Transformers games, but the one I wanted to play the most of all of them was that action game by Platinum Games that was like Devil May Cry but with Transformers. Sadly I think that game is stuck on PS3.

I had a blu-ray burner and got rid of it because disks were too expensive back then and have gone up in price since, just buying a 20tb drive is cheaper for the amount of storage you get.

Cultured shirt, Jon. As usual. Hot take, but ZX is my favorite MegaMan game. I think its biometal system is awesome, and I enjoy its Z-styled, fast-paced platforming. I find its mechanical simplicity a better experience compared to its bloated sequel, Advent. It's also probably the hardest MegaMan game. Still coping for ZX3 someday.
From a financial perspective, I don't understand streaming PS3 games. The cost to Sony of downloading a game once vs streaming it for 60 hours?? If my Steam deck can emulate PS3 games, I don't think it can be that hard.
There is only a 0.1% any of the TF games will came back If they do WFC FOC and Dev are the only ones that will ever come back. The others have movie + car license issues + despite the fact I loved them they are far less loved. It would be pretty sad if the came back just to be relisted, broken and dated PC ports and all though it would be better then nothing. Though there would be not much money in that. Even a low quailty updated version would sell it to pre existing owners
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is the same Game as the 3DS concerns me. So this means that the Skyscrapper is still as buggy as on 3DS? Missing Keys to open doors, that was happen alot and rendered some runs impossible to beat.
I didn't actually own Castle Crashers back when it was new but I did play it back in the day. If you're going to get Jedi Survivor just get it on the PS5. The only real issue I had was waiting for a damn patch to download so I can continue the game. Lost a good weekend over that. I did have a few glitches that I was able to fix by a quick reset. I think Arzette The Jewel of Faramore is 30% off.
Jedi Survivor is perfectly playable on Pc. You can even get over 80fps in 4K with a 4070 Super. Just the DLSS implementation isn’t perfect, it doesn’t activate sometimes but there is workaround around it
I’d really like to own and play the Transformers Cybertron games, never got around to it just due to time, money, and availability not lining up. I relatively recently bought a Blu-Ray disc drive for the express purpose of reading, writing and burning discs. Just want backups of what’s important and efficient long term storage.
Back in the 2000s I used to burn music CDs on my laptop I didn’t have Internet where I was at, but I would put songs on my laptop and then I’d go to Walmart and buy CDs blank CDs and I would burn the music on to them but now I have a desktop computer all in one that my dad gave me his old computer. It does not even have a diss drive in it. It’s slow as dirt, but I have gotten state of decay to the one on it, but it’s very, laggy and choppy and doesn’t run very well and the only reason I did that is because I wanted to run mods for my friends on Xbox, but I can’t get mods to run on my steam deck yet because it’s a Lennox system and stuff on Nexus mod is made for windows but now I’m trying to get decks loader to install on my in deck the Internet says there’s some plug-ins I can download for cheats so that sounds pretty cool, but I’ve downloaded it from the Internet, but it won’t install
The death of physical media may be inevitable but I don't like it. Even besides the ownership angle, it's the only real option for 4K movies and stuff and you just don't get special features with steaming or digital. Plus for media generally, digital never (or rarely) decreases in price like physical stuff does overtime (although ofc rarity can make it go the other way). Without some changes to like digital consumer protection or whatever, something will be lost with digital only.
I have kids so I'm always burning Blurays. It's still by far the best archival method. I have no clue what anyone is doing with thier life if they don't use blurays for important archival
If os3 emulation comes to os4 which I highly doubt it people will be pissed. Many will be like "why didn't this happen years ago". I think ps3 will o ly come to the ps5
I'm still wondering what the lesson of canceling hyenas was. I know what I would like to have Sega have learned from that but without confirmation I just can't say. But the sudden and quick cancellation of that game still really makes me think there was a sudden decision made that the market had shifted and other things of course but let's just say the market had shifted.
Did anyone notice that the Sega titles that were successful were not released on GamePass. The Persona games sold well on Playstation in the past, dropping them on Gamepass killed day one sales on all platforms, because fans who have both consoles would play on Gamepass never buy the game.

I burn data discs quite frequently (in fact I just did some last week). I use Verbatim discs, so hopefully this won't affect me going forward.
I bought Fall of Cybertron on Steam before it was delisted and so I still have access to it, but I regret not also getting War for Cybertron, too.
And it would be really nice to have the online reenabled, so I hope they do come back.
My backlog of games could get me through many years of an apocalypse if I so happened to have bunker with a tv, my PS5 and electricity. But no internet would mean I could not download any games. It would be like the old Twilight Zone episode where the guy has all the time in the world to read books after a nuclear attack but then he breaks his reading glasses.

None of my actual computers have disc drives anymore but i have a couple external disc drives that i honestly still use fairly frequently. I just find the external more convenient since i can move it between computers so easily.
I'm one of the few blu ray burners. I had a vision in mind. I burned all the DBZ episodes and movies with the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack on them onto 4 disks. That shit would've been hundreds of dollars to buy in legit disks and crunchyroll doesn't stream DBZ with that audio

Disappointing about the Blu-ray info, I've got a huge film collection, 1500+ films on Blu-ray, and love the quality of them. Streaming still isn't a good alternative when you're looking for 'quality'. Hopefully there'll still be a niche market for people like me.

When you have companies who have the ability to alter or take away different parts of their content through their digital platforms; it's really good to enjoy content through physical media that's unaltered, provided of course you don't download the updates mainly for video games. With movies, there's really no worries.
i’ve just bought a bluray burner a couple of months ago to transfer my grandma’s home movies as digital files to discs. i thought about pirating uhd movies, but each disc that size is about $10 it seems which makes it really not as worth it to me.

If it took the community many years to get PS3 emulation mostly functional on PC, I can only imagine how long sonys emulator will take. If it works great from the start then I'll be really bewildered.

Well actually- it should be easier for Sony to make an emulator because their development is not hindered by unpublished information about how the PS3 works and legal red tape that RPCS3 has to tiptoe around like avoiding infringement on Sony's code(which is copyrighted)...

I JUST saw a video yesterday about a breakthrough in disc technology wherein a single disc would hold 1.2 PETABITS!!!!! That's almost 200TB ON ONE DISC!!!!!! - Do you think this could revive disc formats??? I think it's it AWESOME and REALLY SHOULD come to market!! Having a (near)permanent medium that could hold 3 or 4 UNCOMPRESSED 8K Movies would be a GREAT way to have a resurgence of the non-streaming, ACTUALLY OWNING of media! And this would also apply to games too.... You could fit EVERY C.o.D. game, PLUS the Emulators, on 1 disc for say the PS6.... and it would never 'go offline' like it WILL on GamePass, etc..
PLUS if it had a decent read/write speed, then you'd have 1 disc that holds more than ANYTHING available in ANY FORMAT currently available (in a single drive, USB, disc, stick, etc) What the largest SSD available right now?? Game wise it would all depend on how fast the data can be retrieved
Considering that game streaming on a massive scale is completely unrealistic (similar to how switching everyone over to electric cars would totally overload the electric grid), I would say that a larger disc format is most likely the most realistic solution to games growing larger in file size. You'd still need the SSD, though, to install the game on from the disc. You're not going to play huge games from a disc with decent load times, ever. But yes, 8K movies will need to be on disc for the best quality.

The news about Sony stopping production of blu-rays was a little weird for me when I first saw it, but the clarification of it being focused on rewritable media and movies makes sense. Maybe it's because I'm from Brazil and Blu-ray movies are super expensive over here, but I never saw anyone who had a dedicated BD player at home, and even in electronics stores I'd barely see them for sale, with most stores having just one model for sale, if they even had any. Hell, I didn't even know rewritable BD were a thing!

Sony isn't stopping production; they're only cutting production. The Japan newspaper containing the initial report only speculated that Sony would stop production sometime in the future.

They had both Transformers War and Fall of cybertron on PS4 and Xbox One years ago but they got delisted with the Ultimate Alliance ports, just a matter of being relisted at this point unless it's a remaster

I had a blu-ray burner and got rid of it because disks were too expensive back then and have gone up in price since, just buying a 20tb drive is cheaper for the amount of storage you get.
I'm pretty sure most people use USB flash drives, external HDDs, and external SSDs instead of burning discs.

Cultured shirt, Jon. As usual. Hot take, but ZX is my favorite MegaMan game. I think its biometal system is awesome, and I enjoy its Z-styled, fast-paced platforming. I find its mechanical simplicity a better experience compared to its bloated sequel, Advent. It's also probably the hardest MegaMan game. Still coping for ZX3 someday.

From a financial perspective, I don't understand streaming PS3 games. The cost to Sony of downloading a game once vs streaming it for 60 hours?? If my Steam deck can emulate PS3 games, I don't think it can be that hard.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is the same Game as the 3DS concerns me. So this means that the Skyscrapper is still as buggy as on 3DS? Missing Keys to open doors, that was happen alot and rendered some runs impossible to beat.

I didn't actually own Castle Crashers back when it was new but I did play it back in the day.
If you're going to get Jedi Survivor just get it on the PS5. The only real issue I had was waiting for a damn patch to download so I can continue the game. Lost a good weekend over that. I did have a few glitches that I was able to fix by a quick reset.

Jedi Survivor is perfectly playable on Pc. You can even get over 80fps in 4K with a 4070 Super. Just the DLSS implementation isn’t perfect, it doesn’t activate sometimes but there is workaround around it

I relatively recently bought a Blu-Ray disc drive for the express purpose of reading, writing and burning discs. Just want backups of what’s important and efficient long term storage.
I've found that timestamps work pretty consistently if you always put leading zeros where possible.
Back in the 2000s I used to burn music CDs on my laptop I didn’t have Internet where I was at, but I would put songs on my laptop and then I’d go to Walmart and buy CDs blank CDs and I would burn the music on to them but now I have a desktop computer all in one that my dad gave me his old computer. It does not even have a diss drive in it. It’s slow as dirt, but I have gotten state of decay to the one on it, but it’s very, laggy and choppy and doesn’t run very well and the only reason I did that is because I wanted to run mods for my friends on Xbox, but I can’t get mods to run on my steam deck yet because it’s a Lennox system and stuff on Nexus mod is made for windows but now I’m trying to get decks loader to install on my in deck the Internet says there’s some plug-ins I can download for cheats so that sounds pretty cool, but I’ve downloaded it from the Internet, but it won’t install
The death of physical media may be inevitable but I don't like it.
Even besides the ownership angle, it's the only real option for 4K movies and stuff and you just don't get special features with steaming or digital. Plus for media generally, digital never (or rarely) decreases in price like physical stuff does overtime (although ofc rarity can make it go the other way). Without some changes to like digital consumer protection or whatever, something will be lost with digital only.

DVD- and BD-ROM discs are commonly used in industry and the government for transferring data to air-gapped systems (if USB drives aren't allowed).
Its more likely they are moving manufacturing towards the new 3d nanoscale optical disc which can hold 1.6 petabits (200tb)

Did anyone notice that the Sega titles that were successful were not released on GamePass. The Persona games sold well on Playstation in the past, dropping them on Gamepass killed day one sales on all platforms, because fans who have both consoles would play on Gamepass never buy the game.
I never play movie dvds or blue rays on my pc. I just use my game console for that. Funny enough. That's all my xbox ever dose anymore .
My wife and I are 27, and we never burned movies, but we definitely burned music onto CDs. We were definitely on the tail end though.
I have a DVD drive in my pc still so I can rip physical media to my home media server but I am fully aware I am in the .05% of people who do this.
