In regards to the PS5 Pro: I don’t feel I’ve played nearly enough games on the base model to have gotten my money’s worth yet, and I have not played any games that have struggled BAD on the existing model. That results in the question - what’s the point of upgrading right now?
Yes. It's like upgrading pc hardware in that it should have an easier time running the games, but it's still up to developers to make use of it. How many multiplatform games will now commit additional resources to a Pro mode? Is a game from 2021 going to do anything with it? Probably not if the devs have already moved on.
Sony made the point very clear in their presentations. And assuming you have purchased previous consoles/any technology I'm guessing you know very well what the point of upgrading is but you just don't want to pay for it. Which is fine but why act like there is no point? You may not care but other do. If you really don't know though, the point in general is better looking and better running games. Games with a graphics mode that were previously locked at 30FPS are now expected to run at 60FPS. Dynamic resolution scaling across all modes should now run at their higher limits rather than how they do now which is at the lower limit. So say in performance mode if it was 1080P - 1440P now it should be at 1440P more often. Anti aliasing/FSR solutions should also run at a higher quality and be more stable in motion. Games that do not receive and official update but had unlocked framerates like Elden Ring it its graphics mode, I would expect that it will now run at 60FPS rather than the variable sub 60 as it did before. Then games that are receiving and update or games that will release in the future will look better. Its pretty simple. If you aren't interested thats fine, but don't act like you don't understand what the deal is.

Oh, that's it. I am done with Sony. I'm skipping the PS6. 'Accident'? The only accident was that this went live sooner than planned. They've been getting greedier throughout this generation.
Everyone is forgetting the patent we saw a few years ago that showed multiple "switches" connecting to each other on the top and sides. It let multiple consoles become a grid of systems. Seems to have been for the new console that people have said is called the Snap. Maybe because they "snap" together? Explains why they had to change from a rail system for the joy con to this port like style.
I played the Time Crisis plug & play device at TGS. I asked if there would be more than just TC1. Said they're talking to Namco about getting 2 & 3 on there. I asked about Point Blank, but no plan for that it seems. Won't be able to download new games to the system. They will sell other boxes with new games installed without the gun in future. Release date was "maybe next summer". I was a little disappointed with it though: No kick back on the gun, which felt light. The pedal was almost like an analogue trigger, not just On/Off like the arcade. Everything was quite plasticky And, maybe I'm just rubbish at the game, but the calibration seemed off, as if it kept changing as you moved around the screen. Definitely needs some work and more than just Time Crisis 1.
Sony has done ONE thing great this generation... They have made everyone else realize how important it is to "read the room." P.S. we can say the same for SquareEnix

The value of the Spider-Man brand has only increased, that is why its licensing price has gone up. In contrast, the Star Wars brand has lost value, so its licensing price will go down.
I would imagine the Spider-Man license should be decently more expensive than Star Wars since it includes exclusivity for single player games using the Spider-verse
FFIX is my favorite game of all time. My most played single player game. I used to map out my level grind. By the time I hit gizamaluke's grotto, I would be around lv 20, then grind grand dragons until level 50+, then enjoy the story from there. The cut scenes feel like a PS2 title on the PSOne. It needs small tweaks, like the card system, Amarant needs to either be replaced or redesigned to have personality and make us care. Then there's the Trance System that needs to ensure we can use it anytime we feel fit, rather than just as it fills up. Only 3 gripes. The Excalibur II wasn't a bad idea, especially for speedrunners, but that's who it was designed for. I love the challenge myself. Despite my love for it, I still acknowledge it as a 9/10.
I just think we're at the pinnacle in visuals in games to the point that we just want more good games and good performance, we don't need any more realistic graphics when they already look fabulous. Unless we get a big generational jump in hardware to push the visual limits more I just think we're at the sweet spot, but I'm always gonna prefer art style over realism if I can get a locked 60fps in performance.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Time Crisis gun compares to something like the Sinden Light Gun. Prices aren't too far off and the Sinden can be used with emulators and many games. It's a very niche product though.
My theory on Nintendo’s device: in the original patents for the NX, instead of a dock, there was a wireless HDMI transmitter shown to pull out of the back of the console. Maybe this is it?
I've been convinced CLO-001 is related to the QoL project from years ago. I read somewhere that it devolved into Pokemon Sleep. This device doesn't necessarily have to be Pokemon related
Game studios are going to have to realize that scale isn't quality. Gamers don't care about dev costs if the game isn't worth the price tag, they're just not going to buy it and move on to the other 1000s of games available.
Star Wars outlaws was in the top 3 digital game, sold on the PlayStation Store for weeks. I'm sure it sold more than a million. If you take into account digital sales
The PS5 Pro is just a luxury item, it's expensive and it's not needed to play current gen games. A lot of people are going to skip on it or just simply wait and upgrade later. Also knowing you still have spend another $80 to be able to play your physical games really is a turn off, especially after spending $700 plus tax just for the console.
The PS5 Pro really shouldn’t sell like crazy. It’s not just the price - the upgrades were minimal and they were basically promising everything the PS5 was supposed to do
It’s not supposed to sell like crazy. This isn’t a replacement for PS5. This is a niche item for people that want better visual fidelity at higher performance. This upgrade is no different than someone that has a 4070S GPU but if want better RT,Frame Gen, DLSS and FPS you get a 4080S or 4090. It doesn’t mean you have to get it as 4070S can do what the other GPUs in the stack can do, but not as good
14:30 I like the idea of a ff9 remake that follows the source material super closely with updated graphics, but I'd also be interested to see world expansion and a modernized combat system. Maybe one that retains the classic active time stuff, but with added action combat as well. Ff7 remake rly set a high standard when it comes to modernizing combat while retaining the classic feel.
I recently found out that I can play time crisis using emulation on pc with a Wiimote and a Wii mayflash sensor bar for pc. The sensor converts mouse input to wiimote IR sensing, so as long as your emulator supports mouse input you are good.
I can understand splitting 9 into 2 games, development costs are high so I'd be fine with it stretched to two games so they can spend more $ on making each part higher quality.
i am all-in for a time crisis arcade machine at home! i recall playing it at the arcade!! i had the most fun with that game. And when i saw the sequels at the arcade was like a omg moment.
Even if they did a more faithful adaptation of FF9, I think it's still going to be a massive undertaking. For one, 90% of the backgrounds in the game are pre-rendered, 2D images which just isn't going to fly nowadays. Meaning they'd have to render the entire world from the ground up. If they took any short cuts on that, purists would complain. Like if they took the FFXVI route and just had points on the map you could fast travel to, people would be mad you couldn't run around an open world like the original. Meaning they'd need to take the FFVIIRebirth route, and render the entire map, towns, cities, fields, oceans etc. for seamless travel, which again, is now a massive undertaking. It also spanned across 4 discs, so it has a lot of content to adapt. I don't think they're talking about changing the story like in FFVII. I think they just mean updating FFIX to today's standards is already a gargantuan undertaking
I think there is a possibility that the new Switch 2 dock could be something like this. There have been mentions that the new dock could be wireless between the dock and the Switch 2.

I like most of the new changes to the PS5 UI, but I feel it all loads slower now for me to just load up a game. Also it's not letting me just resume my games from where I was when I last shut off the console.
A small hiccup, you say? Sounds more like they’re just testing the waters and backtracked because of the backlash…. “Oh no guys that was actually a bug, we would never do something like this to our players”

Oh, that's it. I am done with Sony. I'm skipping the PS6. 'Accident'? The only accident was that this went live sooner than planned.
They've been getting greedier throughout this generation.
Sonys been lying to their fans for years just like “removing” ps2 compatibility on ps3. They just blocked it off
Everyone is forgetting the patent we saw a few years ago that showed multiple "switches" connecting to each other on the top and sides. It let multiple consoles become a grid of systems. Seems to have been for the new console that people have said is called the Snap. Maybe because they "snap" together? Explains why they had to change from a rail system for the joy con to this port like style.
John’s favourite phrases so far in 2024, “diminishing returns”, “flood gates opened”, “switch 2 rumours”… what else?
Nailed it!
It’s amazing to me how these executives who want high sales haven’t looked at the $70 price tag as the issue.
They have made everyone else realize how important it is to "read the room."
P.S. we can say the same for SquareEnix
Technical error my ass. This was 100% done on purpose to see people reactions. This is why the switches UI is the best, just the games and a few minor icons.
I had the EXACT same thoughts about the “clock” !!
The FF9 Memoria Project gave us a perfect blueprint as to what a FF9 remake should look like. And based on what the team made, it shows that a 1-to-1 remake is still really full and fullfilling.
Sea of Stars getting co-op is amazing!!! FF9 had it back on ps1 was very shocked the remaster didn’t keep it
Yeah the PSN issue was surprising. I tried to play the Metaphor demo last night, but couldn't get beyond the "name" screen because it couldn't get online. Despite the fact I had the online settings disabled for the game. So weird that myself and others were having that issue as well.
I couldn’t message my friends in my phone app nor on the console last night. And for a little while this morning. Then all of a sudden it was resolved. I haven’t looked at my console Home Screen yet tho. Atleast in the app it was resolved
Holy damn 1 million copy?! That's like 500k more than I expected.
John, that Silent Hill poll might be an indicator that your audience is getting younger. All us oldies are quite excited for SH2 remake; even if we are a bit shaky on whether or not the quality will be up to par.
Ubi said Siege would last 10 years and it has. I didn't see it happening, but I'm proud that they've done it.
When he said "sphere" did anyone else think "Okama Gamesphere" 😅😂
Sold 1 Million copies and is considered a FAILURE...
12:23 I actually thought some of those were neat. I don’t buy that it was a mistake though. One of them I noticed it on was Moss showing the Quill Bot from Astro and saying Congratulations to Astrobot. I went looking to see if any of my other games had Astro references. I might be strange, but I thought it was a cute idea.
With the recent final fantasy games famously 'not living up to expectations'. Square could be reevaluating all future final fantasy releases
Most people think 9 is the best ff? My ass. Most people absolutely think 7 is the best.
The Sinden lightgun solved the light gun issue years ago, I am sure it's more accurate and better then an Ai run one too.
Would be cool if the code name “atom” was a reference to the atomic age and we get a 50s themed Rainbow 6!
Anytime PSN is down, I get flashbacks to 2011 when it was down for a few weeks
I just think we're at the pinnacle in visuals in games to the point that we just want more good games and good performance, we don't need any more realistic graphics when they already look fabulous. Unless we get a big generational jump in hardware to push the visual limits more I just think we're at the sweet spot, but I'm always gonna prefer art style over realism if I can get a locked 60fps in performance.
We just need better games not better looking ones
It's going to be interesting to see how the Time Crisis gun compares to something like the Sinden Light Gun. Prices aren't too far off and the Sinden can be used with emulators and many games. It's a very niche product though.
My theory on Nintendo’s device: in the original patents for the NX, instead of a dock, there was a wireless HDMI transmitter shown to pull out of the back of the console. Maybe this is it?
I feel like VR has the best games that replicate Arcade shooters
I noticed that Horizon thing last weekend. It was frustrating me thinking they replaced HZD digital with the Lego version.
CLO-001...
CLOCK 001!
Makes sense!
I've been convinced CLO-001 is related to the QoL project from years ago. I read somewhere that it devolved into Pokemon Sleep. This device doesn't necessarily have to be Pokemon related
Damn, Nintendo releasing the Game Sphere?!
Its Spherical!
Man I was just thinking about Time Crisis randomly yesterday, so weird lol
Game studios are going to have to realize that scale isn't quality. Gamers don't care about dev costs if the game isn't worth the price tag, they're just not going to buy it and move on to the other 1000s of games available.
Awesome video as always, but that shirts badass
no mention of not being able to play "your" digital games during sony's disastrous update
Star Wars outlaws was in the top 3 digital game, sold on the PlayStation Store for weeks. I'm sure it sold more than a million. If you take into account digital sales
Even if they do a 1:1 remake, I question whether they could do FF9 justice with a single game.
Anyone see a problem with a million copies of ANYTHING being sold being considered a "failure"? Anyone???
It doesn’t mean you have to get it as 4070S can do what the other GPUs in the stack can do, but not as good
@@Patrick-tw7nr I’m aware of what this is lol. I was addressing Jon’s comments about people being worried it hadn’t sold out. Why would it?
14:30 I like the idea of a ff9 remake that follows the source material super closely with updated graphics, but I'd also be interested to see world expansion and a modernized combat system. Maybe one that retains the classic active time stuff, but with added action combat as well. Ff7 remake rly set a high standard when it comes to modernizing combat while retaining the classic feel.
The gun is a fantastic idea, a box it connects to with 1 game on it however, is not.
Maybe the cube is a sort of projector?
They need to remake Final Fantasy 8
I love Siege. So unique that it will never be old
I have that same exact shirt... I have it in right now 🤯
I think there is a possibility that the new Switch 2 dock could be something like this. There have been mentions that the new dock could be wireless between the dock and the Switch 2.
YES! Sea of Stars revamp? Man I was almost buying it AGAIN yesterday on Steam since I play it Xbox and I simply loved the game, that one and Chained Echoes are to me 2 of the best RPG in the last decade
WTF Square, just do a modest remake in the vein of the FFIV 3D remake or something, charge $40-$50, and rake in the money. Just because it has the FF name on it doesn't mean it has to be a billion dollar endeavor.
If Ubisoft would have made that game and titled it as blood dragon: outlawz it probably would have sold a little better
If square-enix wants my money, they can have it with a Final Fantasy Tactics collection.
Now that I think about it, it’s surprising that time crisis didn’t get a VR game
It is hilarious that people are so scared of the phrase "AI" but literally every game that has non-player controlled pixels uses/has used AI.
Generative AI, that scraps data to create, is a completely different monster!
That is what you're probably scared of...
But they are two completely different things.
Don’t have a PS5 - Will wait for SH2 on PC
If they ever try to remake FF4, 5 or 6 and try to change the stories. I will riot! FF4 and 6 would be amazing as HD-2D remakes.
I'd buy that time crisis set up sooo fast
They can push the medium forward by making complete playable games instead of pretty playable cut scenes.
A little while back I went through a lot of effort to acquire a CRT TV and modifying my Xbox so I could use its light gun. Mixed results but there are even arcade emulators that can use the light gun.
