  • Look how to remove old leaking drain and install the new tub pipe.
    Never use silicone in this place. That's why this is not a silicone. This is a special waterproof sealer, works even underwater and stay soft and sticky to surface after years. It's much better than drying out plumbers putty, which can cracks and lost surface contact.

      Thank you so much!
      All my repair videos are filmed without comments. I work in houses where the owners are at that moment. They don't pay money for my chatter. Therefore, I try to shoot and edit videos in such a way that it is understandable without words and in any country in the world in any language.
      Yes, I filmed it with one hand on my phone. I didn’t think at all that I would be filming, it didn’t seem like anything unusual was supposed to happen. I didn’t even take my camera or tripod with me. But when I started working, I saw that there would be interesting points that were unusual in replacing this bathtub drain. So I had to do it with one hand.

    The video I hoped existed. This is the type of setup I got. Just started leaking from the ceiling, spoiled my day. Was able to loosen the compression nut with a blow torch and penetrating oil, but the pipe between the two is rumbling while rying to remove it. Good to know there's a kit to replace the whole thing! 🙏🙌

    Wow, this is amazing. There’s a lot of neglect in my family’s home and I’m watching the videos that my dad sent me, yours being the second, and leaking faucets and such is a PAIN.

    I have leaky pipes under my tub but nothing uncrews anymore because it's been corroding since 1965. I like the idea of cutting away the pipes and pipe nuts. I'm gonna try finding a metal cutting blade for my reciprocating demo saw. I'm a little worried because I don't have access to behind the overflow, only from the bottom. If you take the plate off the overflow is there anything else holding it to the tub?

    Looks like a half azzed job to me, and I’m not even a plumber, but just a DYIer. There is very little attention to detail and I think geared towards those who do not know Jack about plumbing nor much of anything else, based on many of the comments given hear. You should not have to apply that much whatever to compensate for the misalignment of the pipes. This job was bigger then what was shown here, based on the misalignment. Not to mention that a brass nut was missing at the lower end of the T. 🤷‍♂️

  • @exceleratorjoshua
    @exceleratorjoshua ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I completely see why the entire overflow was not replaced due to trim not matching. However it's best since you are down there to just replace the whole overflow not just the shoe. Why did your set come with such crappy flimsy brass nuts? I've used brass overflows before and the brass nuts are way better than the one you showed.

    As a real service plumber, I can’t grasp why you didn’t just replace the entire waste and overflow so it could be done properly. You shouldn’t need to apply silicone caulk “just in case” because there is no “just in case” when it is done properly. You had so much access. There’s just no excuse for half-assing this.

    Clearly, from an engineering perspective, I don't understand. So, cutting the pipe, then allowed it to be straight under the tub?
    Nicely done, for always making sure your work is done to perfection.

    • @FixitAll
      @FixitAll  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is a problem with the wrong drain and T-piece. Installed not at a right angle, not exactly horizontal to the bottom of the tub.
      When I insert the pipe all the way, it stays at an angle down. Corner gap. I show it in two lines at 3:06. There is no way to push it up.
      4:11 I show a full tube inserted and little movement.
      4:15 insert only a 1/4" length and the pipe moves up and down about half an inch.
      So, from the required installation position (nut line 4:24) I need to cut the pipe and live only 1/4" to the nut line.
      In this way, I was able to move the flange up, so that the joint was equal to the straight surface of the bottom of the tub at 5:26.

    I'm not a plumber so this is a genuine question because I am going to be replacing my parents drain this weekend, but wouldn't you want to fill the tub to see if there is a leak from below? also is there any way to tell if there is a leak without having access from underneath?

      The flange under the bathtub does not fit tightly, it is skewed. Therefore, it is best to use something that does not harden, like Plumber's Putty after years. The bathtub can sag when you walk in it, and it is necessary that the sealant also takes the shape of the bathtub.

    I Wonder if anyone else has ever heard showers running just after you started your shower, while living in a apartment complex.
    Has anyone else noticed that even when you close your tub drain and put a drain stopper to keep the water in while you soak your feet, drain is still leaking out water, because I can hear water flowing through the drain even when the water off, and the drain is plugged, and the drain lever is turned to stop, yet water is still going down the tub drain.
    I noticed that even when I Did this, I noticed that I could hear water draining, even when I closed my drain and placed a drain stopper in my apartment tub it continued to allow water to drain.
    I live alone and I just wondered why this happens and if anyone else has experienced this problem before.
