I'm in the camp of 'if the transformation is terrible, the entire toy is bad, because you're left with only 1/3 of the toy, since it's forever stuck in one mode'.
Rings incredibly true for me. Imo they should have done a robot mode design more like in the Unicron Trilogy. Sure it's chunkier but at least the transformation is actually fun and isn't hand pain hell.
Something I never understood was the buildings in the top ring going straight up… yeah, it looks good for us, but imagine that in practice on a planet… to the inhabitants it looks like a sky-piercer (we are beyond just scraping the sky here) that fell down
I really want there to be a Primus toy where you can see known locations on the planet mode! Like make it a map and give it a little pice of paper that tells you what the places are. Like the Sea of rust could be a red’ish brown flat spot and the well of all sparks could be a translucent blue hole at some part surrounded by some kinda shiny rainbow texture and Kaon can be like a big city with a Colosseum in it for the gladiator pits! There’s so many possibilities.
@@Kraiglyndor nice! I haven’t seen the show it’s from so I couldn’t recognize anything but some things looked important. I just want a super lore detailed version where like every notable spot is assigned a location even if it’s just calling random spiky towers random city’s in transformers.
@@aidanthehumanmiller9302 I've checked my old Cybertron Primus figure and in planet mode and while most major cities are shaped/placed symmetrically there's a meteor/volcanolo on the front, an extra city on the back, and two yellow buildings and a dark field on the butt plate that stand out. There's no mirroring on any of the pieces either. All the pieces are uniquely detailed including different city layouts in mirrored cities, different patterns on mirrored pannels, and different molds on mirrored spikes.
@@aidanthehumanmiller9302 personally I hope they’ll eventually make one that’s less symmetrical in general, maybe put some large city hubs or different environments in to make it look more natural as a planet (though I do like how they make it look like a lot of Cybertron’s cities and structures are built underground). Also I forgot to mention that it’s a triple changer. Turns into a starship.
Yeah this guys transformation is no joke. Unicron is way easier. My fingers were red after I got done. Trying to lock all the panels together may seem easy after Unicron, but they feel like they're the perfect distance to just barely reach each other and you have to pull them over to each other. Aside the panels, the legs are easily the worst part. Beside the horrendous transformation, everything else is really good in my opinion.
@@diosoth Well like ToyGuy said, it's something you'd really only transform once in a while just to display it. Man, I love a transformation that might leave screwdriver gouges on the plastic because you can't friggin untab the panels, lol. I know it probably doesn't if you're careful but watching you try to pry open panels on this thing made me wince so hard, lol.
Yeah I wish they would have mapped the appearance of G1 Cybertron onto this since he's best paired with G1 Unicron. The vast incongruity between the hemispheres would have looked really interesting.
12:01 Wait, I thought this was the Dreamwave Primus since the colors matched that one with the dark blue and red, while also having the planet details mostly be on his legs, forearms and shoulders, alongside the way the back lasers are mounted. Even the Alpha Trion headmaster used for Primus is the same as the one in Dreamwave.
lmao the buildings on the top though that are pointed straight "up" instead of perpendicular to the surface of the planet. If you were actually standing on cybertron they would all be slanted at like a 45 degree angle towards the north XD
14:08 I mean he’s the size of a planet, so it would take time to turn, so it kind of makes sense to have Missiles in the back, as not to be vulnerable.
I super duper love how much the panels fold away into the more solid looking chunks of the body. Pain of being pinched by plastic aside, it feels pretty clever.
when i was a kid, i always thought Cybertron was a planet in our solar system out past Pluto, since the Autobots and Decepticons didnt seem to go into warp or hyperspace to get to Earth in the premier episode.
I really appreciate reviews like this. Like, I'll watch the beautiful, excellently-filmed and edited transformation videos from Color R Touch Toys or Mangmotion, etc.. Those are great for showing off the engineering. Reviews like this show off *what it's like to actually own it.* Being able to see you transform it, how awkward it is to hold, and especially the _sounds_ of the plastic are super-informative. There's been plenty of figures I've gawked at, lovestruck. Then I watch a reviewer actually interact with it and nope the fuck out. *coughalmosteverything fromxtransbotscough*
Very impressive and detailed look. Not really a fan of anything I have to transform using a flat head screwdriver or having to sacrifice my fingers to. The Hasbro Cybertron one may be significantly less impressive but props to them for making him turn into a complete planet unlike the Armada Unicron mold. FWIW they're all the Unicron/Primus I need in my life right now.
I would have commented here sooner, but the drinking game of "Take a drink every time he says OW" put me in the hospital with blood alcohol poisoning. But that is a pretty sweet looking Primus. If I got that I would probably keep him in planet mode and keep his headmaster out to have a sweet little Alpha Trion figure. In a way you actually get three cool pieces in that. Planet Cybertron, Alpha Trion, and a Space Bridge.
Very nice. My brother’s planning to get this to go along with our Unicron figure. I already have TF Cybertron Primus myself, so I don’t need this figure personally, especially with all the emotional & physical damage it seems to dish out.. But even still, a very nice-looking figure.
It would make a bit more sense if Primus and Unicron were retconned to be small moons of an earth-sized Cybertron. That would solve all sorts of issues with the physics and proportions.
Reminds me about TFC Liokaiser. Cool, nice in details, but it does take long to transform and assemble, and they put a small screwdriver inside the box to assist. The good thing is it has all details great, and the joints will also be more stable than normal combiner toys. The bad thing is just transformation difficulty. Guess this applies to all super-detailed transformers toys. Though I kinda prefer one design about the old Primus toy, is that it uses a key to assist transformation, which made it much easier. Though that design is due to Unicron Trilogy setting, I kinda hope they could include something like a planet key in subsequent designs for Primus and Unicron. Maybe like a Autobot Matrix, Star Saber, or something else could function like a key?
I just got this and it's awesome. I transformed it into planet mode and added all the orange bits. Started transforming it back into bot mode and it looked like a mess. My wife was like "What the?!". I asked if she would like to transform it, and her reply was, "I want to smash that into the floor.". 😆
If Hasbro ever do another Primus I feel they will HAVE to put a button on the cybertron mode to allow it to transform properly without being damaged or being too difficult.
This figure has almost the exact same engineering of the Darth Vader Death Star Transformer just scaled up with extra articulation for aspects of the transformation. Obviously the legs take up the large chunks on darth vaders back but its really similar lol
You should try to get your hand on the Death Star Transformers. At first impression, it also seems like an hell of panels management, but once you figure it out, it's actually quite fun to transform.
@DragmaKerp dude we all know this isn't made by hasbro. he's just saying hasbro should make new designers test their mettle by making a transforming ball bot. And frankly I think that would be fun
