Billy the Kid and the Siege at Greathouse Station and Tavern

Deputy James Carlyle's grave has remained unmarked since his death on November 27, 1880. on August 5, 2022 Billy the Kid's Historical Coalition placed a beautiful and much deserved headstone at his grave, which is located on private property. While assisting with this project, I filmed his grave, along with the ruins of the Greathouse Station and Tavern that was burned to the ground by the posse after Carlyle's death. Billy the Kid has often been blamed for Carlyle's death, but it us more likely that he was accidentally shot and killed by his own posse members. Living in Minnesota and only getting to New Mexico once a year or less, I've not even begun to be able to get to sites like this one. I truly felt like I was there with this video. We talk and talk about a move to New Mexico and it's videos like this one with its connection to history that may make the move actually happen.
