  • 1979 VW bus twin carb conversion. Included are a few tips on how I did it.Twin 44's, big heads, high rev valve springs, lube a lobe lifters, scat 35 cam,2100 kit,j pipes. The carbs came from Kaddie Shack. They did a real good job on the jets. Update 8/25/2019 its been almost 3 years. Bus runs very good. No problems at all. Those 44's work very good. All I have done since rebuild is change oil and adjust valves. Also just some extra info on pulling motor. I had to unbolt and remove the oil dip stick cover where it bolted to case (block). This gave me some extra room to pull back motor for clearance. This gave me clearance to drop motor. 6 Year update. The 12 volt solenoid cut off valves were removed 6 years after install because they started running hot and caused the gas to heat up.

When changing to carburetors did you have to change the heads. I have a 78 bug with efi and i can not run it without some kind of problem with the efi.

I changed the heads but you do not have to. The intake manifold had to be changed. I needed a port for my power break booster and the new intake had the port for the booster. I am not sure on the 78 bug what you would need to do. You could call Kaddie Shack and talk to those guys. They are the all knowing when it comes to VW stuff.

I'm curious about the wiring in general.
I'm in the process of removing all the EFI stuff now.

I removed all the wiring for fuel injection system. Got power for new fuel pump and fuel cutoffs at the coil. The ignition switch gets power to the coil when I start the bus. That was about it as best I can recall. I haven't had any problems with the bus since I did the conversion. It runs good.

Where did you end up hooking up the break booster hose?

Just under the carbs. The intake manifolds had threaded fittings to access the intake vacuum.

You mentioned possible issues how's it been so far?

@@familyurias1938 Break booster works great with it hooked up on the intake manifolds just under carbs. No issues at all. Make sure you get intake manifolds with threaded holes to tie into.
