It is very sad to see this. I just so happened to cross that bridge the night before this tragic event and very lucky to have crossed it when I did (instead of planning to cross it at the fateful moment of the collapse). I work as a truck driver and had picked up a load from Atlanta bound for NJ. According to my GPS and ETA, if I had picked up at the time the load was supposed to be in Atlanta, I would have been on that bridge at the time of the unfortunate event. But I decided to go earlier (and had missed the tragic event by 2 hours). G-d was definitely on my side. My heart goes out to those who were killed in the unthinkable event.
God!!!
❤
If you'd turned up a bit later, you would not have been on the bridge when it collapsed. People need to appreciate the quick response of the Port Transit Authority dispatcher in passing on the mayday call info to the transit cops at either end of the bridge.
You must have seen them when you drove over, cos of the construction a lane was closed. Those guys halted traffic. You would have been either on the bridge and made it across with 30 seconds to spare, or you would have been in a queue of stopped traffic. Only the construction vehicles were on the bridge when it fell.
Joe is that you?
That was the Holy Spirit intervening on your behalf.
You're definitely blessed.
This is so sad I was in court when I heard about this it just my heart drop. I'm praying for the loss of the souls that was on that bridge. God Bless their family keep them through this difficult time.
Another cost is Trucking, all the trucks that used that bridge now have to take alternate routes, those cost will be passed on to the consumer and will mount over time.
So the cops who stopped traffic are heroes? They followed orders and parked their car in the lane with lights to block traffic. Save lives, yes, but a hero…seems like a low bar and an insult to real hero’s who put their lives on the line.
There are little heroes and big heroes in this world. If the only people who ever saved anyone were big heroes, the world would be a much sorrier place. Yes, they were just doing their jobs and just following instructions, but the fact that they didn't hesitate, didn't question, didn't equivocate - they DID do their jobs to the best of their ability, is something worth calling out too. That's another few dozen lives that could have been lost had they been on the bridge. We can express our gratitude to them as well.
The middle section of bridge was approximately 17,000 tons by design
Ships company should be paying for all 🤔
Call the Dutch, they have floaters who can lift 100.000 tons and more, lift the big pieces and drag them to shallow water to cut up. This takes too long.
Some job need last longer lol, you do it quick end up destroying other things which supposed not so
Those need replacement 😏
And it would take how many weeks to get those Dutch cranes across the Atlantic... and did you mean to write a million tons? There are no cranes that lift a million tons or anything close to that figure. The most powerful crane on the planet lifts about 20,000 metric tons.
Water is too shallow.
@@jimbobeire You're right. The 'Sleipnir' arrived in Rotterdam last week.
MD GOV said Need to Work Fast. Need to Work SAFE. THOSE TWO THINGS DO NOT GO TOGETHER.

This fella Tom Perez is the right man for this. He articulated the issue and the ongoing efforts very well, including thir efforts to help the families affected.
They've already moved tons of debris, but the only videos we have are politicians making speeches how great they are.
My thoughts exactly!
I've heard the police was there and running everyone off , no cameras no drones.... Military on the water. And I guess they don't work on a holiday...
wonder why they dont want us to see the actual clean up?

All I want to hear about is what exactly went wrong and what is being done to prevent this from ever happening again. This 23 min long news segment says nothing about that. Useless, this is why I don't like watching the news.
There will be more on that as time goes on.
Probably already.
Show of hands
Who doesn't care what these politicians have to say?
👇
Gee CBS you're only 14 or so hours behind everyone else getting this online.
With the same old video clips on a mindless repeat.
They prolly got sugar buzz hangovers from all the Easter candy they ate.
From what I've heard the police is running everyone off no cameras... Drones being shot down... Military is there, CIS, NSA , CIA treating it like they're trying to confirm... ? Something. Other reports nothing has really been done other than cutting the beams the other day....
For the cameraman.
Sickening. Propaganda takes longer to edit.
Everything they do has to have democrat propaganda subtly or overtly interwoven. Even the people they select for interviews.
Thanks thanks youse
Do the big ship companies have insurance? Why is America paying for this? The American people are taxed enough!
Baltimore will get the money later but won’t reimburse anyone.
Compensation for all nationalities are important.
Why do they keep talking about rebuilding the bridge? Right now the most important thing is to get the passageway clear. When full size ships are able to go in and out, which will take a while, then talk to us about rebuilding. For now maybe they need a ferry.
They want to spend more money as soon as possible!🤩
Never trust a person who talks with their eyes closed
lmao
Bruh 😂😂
Why?
You also can't trust anyone that stares you down to make you trust them either.
Or gang signs 🥴
I’ve been very curious about the crew on the ship, but every news show I see since this happened doesn’t talk about them other than initially saying they were all fine. do they need to remain on board to do specific jobs to keep the situation safe? If there is mention of this in the video that I was too impatient to watch, and someone can point me to a time stamp, Thanks.
The largest crane in the Eastern sea shore is: The true lifting crane that is arriving soon is The Donjon Marine owned : 1.) Chesapeake 1000 Crane Barge
(capable of lifting 1,000 short tons with its 231 ft-long boom
and
2.) Tug, Atlantic Enterprise, pulling it.
The boomable stiff-leg-derrick barge measures 191 feet (58 m) long,[1] with a beam of 101 feet (31 m); its draft is 20 feet (6.1 m).[3]
they will have too check the draft gauges on the ships bow
Has the Block Box of the ship been reviewed?
Where were the tugs to guide the ship on the first place….
They weren’t required. They aren’t required everywhere.
Pete is so well informed. He has his Versace' hardhat on standby.
10 tons a piece should be a good speed of removal and complete in 30 days.
I sure as hell hope we the taxpayer are going to cover the cost! The US government needs to go after the company that owns and operating that ship sooner than later!
MD GOVERNOR should talk about that BUT that would too much for Lazy people
It's nice to watch the news on my phone
I havent seen one piece of steel picked up by a crane
You haven't been watching. There is a live feed of the site. They have moved some pieces and they are on barges now.
You must be blind
@@mikeprice4103 This doesnt mean it has not been done.I just have not seen it.
For those that said you can see it, what is the link for that camera?
Why can’t they use air blathers to help move the bridge parts to a safer location and open up the ship lanes
Why does the government have to pay for the bridge. The insurance company of the shipping company should pay for the damage.
What about the horn? Did anybody blow the ship's horn before the collision?
No horn or emergency response alert...
Why? To tell the bridge to move?
The horn didn't work
Show the removal, not just overviews!
there is no removal. 90% + is underwater, you will never see footage from that because the visibility underwater is terrible. you will see lots of footage from above water and it will look like progress but it is super easy and relatively fast work compared to what must be done underwater.
exactly
and the danger tape !
Kim : I was talking about the sections above the water. For the parts under water we will be able to see it as it is lifted out and placed on barges.
@@jackever It will be several more months before you see anything substantial be removed from under water.
Baltimore is Closed for 6-12 months.
Kimmacdonald1678… not true, much sooner, you have to watch some regular news to get the full picture.
What do you base your comments on?
These disgustingly uninformed news anchors have no way of conceptualizing 100 tons, 200 tons or 200,000 tons. It all sounds huge to them. Think of it this way... most of the trucks running US highways gross out on the scale at around 80K lbs. That's 40 tons, so 100 or 200 tons floating on the sea isn't a huge amount of weight, compared to a vehicle traveling upon ground, asphalt or concrete.
Why the USA don't get one of the world's largest ship cranes equipped to lift the broken pieces of the bridge rather than the tedious task of cutting it into pieces. This job would have been completed days ago. The USA could use Heavy duty Lifting Vessels like the HLV Svanen(8700 tonnes, the SSCV Thialf Dutch Vessel with a lifting capacity of 14,200 metric tons, or the Chinese Zhen Hua 30 with a lifting capacity of 7,700 metric tons. There are cranes that can fit the scope of this job and complete the job in a short time.
very sad what happened on Baltimore bridge.
Any possibility of transferring containers off the Dali to another vessel.....as soon as is safe to do so?
no. the ship will be free in several weeks and it will return to the dock and be completely offloaded. The container will leave by train and truck.
How many containers were actually: 1) gored by the structural steel girders...2) left at a halfhazard angle....3).fell off near the bow and the aft sides....4) CANADIAN TORONTO NEWS MENTIONED THE OWNER OF THIS CONTAINER SHIP HAS A VERY RESPECTFUL TIMELINE OF THE MANIFESTOS CONCERNING MARITIME NAUTICAL LAW......still curious with seeing only two names engraved on the container shipsABOVE DECK...stacked eight high carry WHAT MERCHANDISE.?@@kimmacdonald1678
Yes they will have to remove some of the containers where the bridge penetrates the ships haul so to have access for the cutting and removal
Those fracture critical bridges should only allow container ships and ships of hazard to be escorted by tugs ….that could and should be the future!
it is in many other places. Baltimore seriously failed to protect the bridge in designing bridge protection and allowing ships to travel without protection i e tugs.
the city failed to do so
Actually the real common sense approach is barriers around the bridge supports. You see them around those power lines? The bridge was made in 1970's excuse is it wasn't built to withstand ships that this large. (back then ships were 1/3 the size). Well gee, a bridge sits over a major port with gigantic ships. Maybe we shouldn't trust those giant ships and put in some defense mechanisms to protect the bridge. But nah, lets wait until its taken out before we do anything and it turns into a world wide news event.
where is the dangerous tape?
The US is not gonna pay for the rebuild of the bridge.... what are they talking about? The US is going to put the money upfront to start the rebuild but the US will get refunded through insurances and other compensations. It would simply be stupid to wait for the processes of refund to end first before starting to rebuild the bridge.
I will believe it was a accident if the bridge gets rebuilt with out a name change..the reason I don’t believe it was a accident was because with all that area to travel in why was the ship that close to a support in the first place
Loss of control and wind.
You think the mayor is auditioning to get his name on the side of that bridge?
It should stay
Francis Scott Key Bridge
Jb is only going to help his campaign, him and his administration left Hawaii out there on there own.
Notice the power wires have better protection than the bridge= fail.
First Person to See that
Id like to locate a place for a good highway for an underground wherehouse for storeage.
Pls make sure that the many "slanted" probably heavy containers will not slide into another especially if winds pick up which could set off at different levels the domino effect thus reshifting weights at the deck level.
Some of that "B" roll is starting to grow mold...
100% The Gov of Md is FULL OF IT
I think the construction of the bridge was flimsy cannot withstand slight knock. The authority should understand ship may due to unforeseen that run into it, thus the strong infrastructure as preventive measure cannot be underestimated.
Slow is fast, and fast is slow
Removal of the wreckage is extremely dangerous and may never be 100% removed
I wonder if hackers could have taken over the GPS guidance of that ship?
Is any of the cargo perishable? 5 years is a long time to have to wait.
It won’t be 5 years, they will off load the ship In just a few weeks, but probably not any perishable anyway. Why did you say 5 years?
Key Bridge
I feel that tradgic times like this should not be the only time the government comes together it shouldn't have to come to that in what we call usa
Its a tradgety that the key bridge collapsed. And yes it's terrible that lives were lost. The fact that were imagrants makes no difference. Those men were part of work team . All are saddened by their deaths and are mindful of the families. Stop pushing the narrative that only immigrant labor is more exposed to the danger of road work. It's just dangerous work no matter who is doing it..
A very dangerous operation’
Why not just build another tunnel like the 895 one?
Because hazmat trucks aren’t allowed in tunnels.
They are probably building the units of the bridge
that are going to replace the parts that are gone.
I say 2 months and the bridge will be partially reconstructed
As long as the bridge company isn't the one I worked for,

Get the Glomar Explorer on the scene for bridge removal. LOL
I believe it is on site.
At least that is what one story said but I believe it was decommissioned in the mid 80s.

Pretty fishy. The owner of ship doesn't claim any fault? Yes they are totally at fault. The ship left port with engine problems and this is their fault
I told ya it was a crime.
25-30 cars??? At 1:30 am!
The police were able to stop oncoming traffic before the hit.
That’s small in the United States. I was expecting more tbh.
Not to diminish the loss of life in this accident but they are making the removal of the damaged bridge much more "scary" then it really is. Large bridges like this are knocked down and rebuilt all the time. The engineering in terms of demolition isn't much different. Just google demoltion pics of the Tappan Zee from 5 years ago. It was loud and big but its all controlled. A new bridge will be built in Baltimore and the USA will add to their never ending debt tally
Are The People STILL ON THAT SHIP
Most ships have resources to maintain 3 months for a full crew. Yes they are still aboard and will be there for at least 3 weeks, maybe more but the ship was planning to be at sea for over a month anyway. Most ships are.
@@SgtDexterGrif Someone Need To Get The Harbor Master Report To See if That BOAT Had Mechanical Problems Before Sailor Off
just so everyone is aware it will be months before a ship leaves or enters Baltimore. Those channels they open are for pleasure boats/ fishing boats, nothing that means anything.
If you see a ship cross that bridge path in 6 months I would be very surprised. That city is dead for half a year at earliest.
it will take many years to remove that bridge. probably 3+.
Why ?
Because the city is very heavily dependant on its harbour. And this is a very massive salvage operation. This is going to take a very long time. @@dennyhawk9893

The ships captain is Ukrainian. They don’t want to say that on TV.
They need to show what the actual situation is. People's understanding depends on them seeing the actual people, not the politics.
Remember one of Trump's state of the union speeches..to build new airports and undate bridges etc. The frickn democrats laughed at him.
They laugh at him no matter what he says, we can't take that as an argument
It's to bad this governor cant speak without having to read off paper.
Got to love these fake news videos: "NEW DETAILS"! Goes on to repeat the same stuff that was said repeatedly for the last several days using old, pre-recorded videos.
Why they all blinking so fast?
Say what.
5:50 the federal government as a responsibility in rebuilding this what? lol classic
You know there was an interstate road going over the bridge? You know it was an important piece of infrastructure that impacts on interstate traffic as well as an international port?
Do you just mock without understanding?
Here is a DUMB? question ? Why didn't the police drive across the bridge to get the road crew off of the bridge ?
another minute and a police officer would be dead too. they were just about to go get the construction crew and then the bridge collapsed. they barely had enough time to stop the cars,
They only had a few minutes to react as it was a last minute. Think how long it would have taken to drive out, load them, and either drive back or forward. It was just not possible.
Give a thought to the political speech writers who will be working flat out to prepare for the big guy’s visit ob Friday.
Never gonna lose sight is right, start seeing tug support to these large ships,..Yeah, bet, nobody's blind now.!!!😡🇺🇸
Have they lifted any steel with crane yet they will be there forever cleaning that mess up
yes they said they lifted a few pieces away. this is basically nothing. dont pay too much attention to what they say they have removed it is meaningless. if they give you a concrete timeline on when the shipping land opens that is all that matters but they wont because they dont realize that it will be many months before that happens
Sounds like an insurance problem not a tax-payer problem..
It is. The ship is insured, the carrier is insured. The federal government only wants to get involved so politicians can steal.
Congress doesn't know if the US should help?
WTH
With the cost?
Safety first of course, and too think if there could be tugs supporting that ship, that would have been the safety call to prevent this, but, oh we learned well now,...🇺🇸😡
For the kind of money those guys are making cutting that steel I'm sure they won't have problems finding iron and steel workers to fill those jobs.
Qualified workers... not just some guy who wants to get paid. You can't just hand a thermal lance to the first Joe Schmo who turns up looking for employment. Welding is hard, and doing it in wind and rain, while in a bucket held by a crane next to a giant piece of bridge being stabilised by another crane... that's even harder. If things shift unexpectedly it could easily be another tragedy.
Those guys doing that work are earning every penny imho. Big respect to them.
