How Ford can allow these engines to carry on in production is beyond me. Ebay is full of them in the spares or repair, Rubber belts running in oil ????.

The newest ones on mk4 focus etc use timing chains now and a lot of other improvements but yeah the earlier ones are terrible especially the cooling system

@@sbrader97 It's really strange with theses modern car manufacturers, VW went from belts to chains now back to belts. People were mis lead into thinking that timing chains were maintenance free, not the case Mini/Peugeot engine and VW both are on the limit at 60- 80k. Ask me how I know.

Mine does the same at 4000 rpm and thought it was the rev limiter ? Car drives and performs well though
    Great video thanks for sharing

Nothing wrong with the 1.0l engines as long as they are properly maintained and not thrashed when cold. The earlier engines suffered from overheating due to a degas hose splitting which was recalled and fixed in these later engines, That miss fire at 4k rpm is actually the soft limiter on these engines and they always run a little smokey when it's not up to operating temperature 👍

Got a mk3.5 thats leaking coolant so even the facelift engine has failure points in the cooling system hoping its the water pump or something leaking cant afford to fix head gasket or fit a new engine tried looking and cant see anywhere in the engine bay thats leaking no obvious leaks from the pipes and no white smoke/coolant in oil so idk if the head has blown it also never overheated when the coolant ran empty didnt realise because they didnt put a sensor for coolant level yet they have one for the washer bottle how stupid is that

Thanks for the information on the soft limiter 👍

@@sbrader97 regarding your coolant leak I had same problem nd couldn't find any obvious leaks but under pressure test I spotted one of the heater matrix pipes leaking from the engine bay to the imput of the heater matrix. Hope this helps.

@karlleggett6197 yeah that was the exact same place mine was now never buying a ford again because i then had oil light while on holiday the belt probably blocked the oil pickup i just got a new car instead of expensive repair on replacing the wet belt etc was sick of that car going wrong didnt want to have to keep forking out hundreds every few months with every common failure happening at once

No one wants to touch them. Had to use main dealer to replace both belts (cam & oil pump belts) as soon 10 years old. Cost thick end of a £ grand and took two & half days. But I guess other makes that are 'eco' and efficient are the same. About the same price as a headlight for a Tesla!
