5 gallons of UDT2 is $93.84 at my local dealer. I agree, the price of oil is ridiculous! Years ago, a quart of oil use to cost the same as a gallon of gas: a quarter!

Heard too many stories of bad experiences with trying to find an alternative fluid. The additive package in UDT from Kubota is just not what the others have. For the HST or hydraulic systems I recommend the Kubota fluids for Kubota tractors and John Deere fluids for John Deere and same for other brand tractors. Seriously, there is a difference in the additive package. I believe Ashland Oil is maker of Kubota oils but they’re using the additive package Kubota is requesting for their units. To me it’s not worth the risk of trying an alternative fluid. Just one opinion in many. Have a Blessed Day

It’s formulated specifically for Kubota UDT II, it’s not a universal fluid. I also know of a M6800 that’s ran regular universal tractor hydraulic fluid at it has 4,000 hours with no issues. But you do your thing and I’ll do mine, just wanted to share this for those who might be interested. Obviously I’m not an oil’s expert like others might be! Thanks for watching!

I have a Kabota M6800 with 2500 hrs. I use the Kabota Super UDT2 when I service, but I use O’Reilly’s premium universal tractor fluid to maintain levels until next service. I seem to get a lot of leaks though. I go through a 5 gallon bucket approx every month during summer.

Kubota hydro oil was idemitsu daphne and that's what every piece of equipment came filled with could of been their super hydro st type 3 wich is a zinc free aw oil and the utd oil is just a multiviscosity 10w30 oil now the additive packages are not complex like people think and each one passes a diffrent test so having a din51524 type 2 test passes all kubota fluid except for their skidsteers require type 3 so the super utd can be replaced by napa tractor trans or any tractor trans meeting j20c test and the premium hd46 from kubota can be replaced with any din type 3 fluid this is also stated in all their equipment manuals in the back but this guy just needs napa tractor trans oil

I talked with my dealers parts and service manager. WHen they get a warranty in on an HST or gear shift, Kubota requests an oil sample to make sure it is using the correct fluid. Many a claim has been denied from using the generic 303 fluid, but he did say that Mystic makes a fluid that is compatible. The Mystic JT5 is a direct compatible to Kubota UDT, not UDT2 because that is synthetic. Kubota prefers you use UDT2 at all times, UDT in a pinch. So IOW, if you use UDT or JT5, change it more often. Stens 770-734 Stens Shield Hydraulic Oil claims to be UDT2 compatible.

That Kubota UDT is very expensive I tried to get Permatram 821XL from my dealer for my newer M-F 1526 & I was told they could not ship it & ask me if there was a Kubota dealer near by & said I could use that, they are about 15 miles from my house , I called & got sticker shock! I ended up driving to another M-f dealer about 60 miles away , closer than where I bought my tractor .The Permatram 821XL is a semi synthetic , not a full & was only about 25 $ cheaper for 6 gallons & at the same time I had to service the M-F 50 which takes 8 gallons had to order it from NAPA and they only sell it in 5 gallons pales, ouch again it cost me about the same as the 6 gallons of Permatram 821 XL the M-F 50 requires a mineral gear oil. Long story short You got a good price on the oil . I'll have to check them out to see if they sell other types oil ,not that I need any anytime soon thanks for the info. & tip as well as the video.

The Kubota isn’t a full synthetic either, full synthetic is hard to find ever since the mobile/castrol lawsuit that ended up allowing highly refined group 3 base Dino oil to be considered full synthetic. Before this happened if it said full synthetic it was 90 percent or even a higher percent group 4 and 5 base oil. A lot of times even then it was necessary to add in some group 3 to be able to blend in the additive package being pure group 4 and 5 base does not blend well with certain additives.
In other words the full synthetics today are not the full synthetics of before the lawsuit. With that said, oil has came a long way and still test better overall. I do notice that it doesn’t last the mileage that a group 4 and 5 does.

I bought a 3301 new and it howled and had problems from day 1. It wasn't broke so warranty wouldn't do anything. The backhoe finally wouldn't work (after warranty expired) and I worked on it all winter. I finally did my own testing and the viscosity was to thick compared to UDT. That's the problem with other "Kubota compatible oils" is the viscosity difference. Not all this additive super lubricating sales baloney. The valve assy on the backhoe has some orifices that are less than 0.020" (some metric dia?) and it won't flow thicker fluids. I suspect the same on trans lube areas. On my first oil filter change the filter was collapsed inside also. All I can figure is that the factory left in preservative oils in the hydraulic rams or something that caused the thicker oil.
That will be the only and last Kubota I get. I stick with CAT. They use standard universal 10W hyd fluids. None of this "special" garbage and microscopic orifices that a Kubota has. A little more engineering and they could make these Kubota's universal instead of requiring special fluids. An "all synthetic" may have a low enough viscosity that it will work right, I don't know. Be aware that there are some very small orifices that have to flow the oil in a Kubota.

Yes it’s silly for each brand to do something to try and make you buy their oil. My friend has ran regular universal hydro oil in his M6800 and it has 4,000 hrs now so I’m not too concerned. Your L3301 with a hydrostatic drive is a problem after 500hrs (almost a "throw-away-tranmission"). Kubota has been leaning on their good reputation to sell massive amounts of 60 hp & less tractors to satisfy entry level buyers that only put less than a hundred hours a year ,with hydrostatic tranys. They "really " recommend every 200hrs total fluid & filter changes ---for warranty reasons. After the first 50 hours, and 325.oo$ (hydro fluid service) of pain & suffering & every 200hrs there after this "novelty" wears off. The expense is usually transmutted to cheaper filters & fluids or neglected service intervals causing catastrophic failures that kubota "wipes their hands clean" of the warranty. These & all other brands are VERY expensive (hydro-drives) to operate & maintain on an hourly aspect. Thanks for the great vidio Sir and happy safe Tractoring.

NO.... we get bulk Hydraulic oil and it goes in everything from the tiny snow plowing tractors to the D8 dozers running the dump. Never seen a failure I thought was related to oil brand.

@@TheMonkdad no, I’m at 2,000 hours without adjusting them. My buddy has a M6800 with 5,000 hours and no adjustment. Not saying that’s a step to skip though.

I’m not sure on that model tractor, this one matches the UDT2 fluid.

  • @markcole6475

I’d use stens fluid in an older tractor but not gonna risk it on my $30k new kubota …..not worth the little bit of savings imo..
Typically I don’t use that much oil other than maintaining hydraulic level with a little loss when unhooking couplers and fluid changes at proper intervals…
I’ve heard too many horror stories to risk it….got too much invested to try and save a buck.

    • @khtractors
      @khtractors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It does for hydraulic oil. It says to change at the first 50 hrs. I quickly changed the filters and just added what oil I lost on that service. Then changed the oil on the next interval.

It appears that Valvoline makes the Kubota Super UDT2 transmission oil, but I'm having a hard time finding which Valvoline oil is the rebranded Kubota oil. See Kubota's informational page: www.kubota.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Kubota_Super_UDT2_Trans-SDS-1.pdf

That’s because Kubota has a marketing agreement with Ashland Oil which stipulates that Ashland’s Valvoline brand will not offer their branded version of the product.
