Have really enjoyed the videos and what y'all are doing down there! Born and raised in Panama City myself, but live in Denver now. Y'all are doing it right by having your own slice of heaven and enjoying your lives the way you want! I've just purchased a little piece of land down at Howard Creek and ordered a home to go on it and have a place to escape the crazy Denver life and come back to my roots and for my family to enjoy! Fishing down the road from the land, and our hunting lease 5 mins away is a huge plus too! Can't tell you how many days I have thought about going back to a simpler life and enjoying nature and LESS PEOPLE! Huge congrats to y'all and look forward to continuing to follow along while you chase your dreams!
Lots of folks in the BX forums complain that their new machine came way low on front axle oil. Mine was full and I give credit to my dealer doing the proper inspections before delivery.
Howdy Brad Greg here from TBS. I'm absolutely blown away by where your calendar lock came from. I'm originally from Marshfield Missouri. Rose Metal is in Springfield about 25 minutes away. Had 3 really good friends who worked there. Remind me to tell you the mail box story from one of the employees Retired by now probably. It's a small little world it is.. Good information on the oil!
Thanks Brad. I appreciate the way you share information in your videos. You try to be complete and thorough. Any conscientious machinery owner that has a budget wants his maintenance to be maintained on time and thorough to insure longevity for his equipment so, it is appreciated in the way you present your videos. Ya'll stay safe, healthy, strong, wise and successful. Blessings and prayers for you, family and all you hold dear. ☝🙏🙌💪
Thanks. Changing my front axel at 175 hours if only to get gear oil in there. This is a light duty tractor but better to overdo the maintenance beyond factory specs.
I`ve seen several videos`s where new Kubota's came from the factory with very little oil in those front axles. The very reason I`m watching this video is because of it. I have a 2017 L3901 with 84 hours on it that I bought new. I plan on checking mine and filling with 80W-90 gear oil until it comes out the overfill hole. Thanks for another great video. BTW........You`re in Florida.....How cold could it be. LOL
Great video, thank you. I just did my 400 hr service. I found the drain plug for the hydraulic oil, next to the clutch pedal linkage was loose. I put a wrench on it and didn't need it to loosen it. Certainly worth checking.
Kubota dealer tech here, I can't speak for all dealers or all techs, but the way I go about it is to lift the front axle and remove the wheels. That way you don't have to worry about the funnel slipping out and making a mess. Also, I rarely service an axle outside of a full service, therefore the first thing I do is drain the axle. I then have all of the time of changing the engine oil and filter, transmission oil and filters, air filters, fuel filter, and greasing to allow it to drain. On the note of this axle already having 80-90 while your previous machine had Super UDT, these axles come from Kubota not fully assembled. One of the bevel sides is not mounted to the axle during transport and is mounted and filled at the dealer. The manual says it can have either fluid so it's up to the dealer or tech.
80/90 gear oil is what I call it. Just used it to fill my front differential in my F250 and paid $35 for a gallon of Lucas delivered. I use one of those plastic pumps that screws right onto gallon jugs.
Mine was low also. I checked with my dealer and he stated, they fill it up, you should run it about two weeks, then recheck and you will need to add a little. He said it was normal as it works it way all through the front axle.
Thanks for the video. I’m about to do the same job on my 2019 L3901. One question, can you not drain both sides at the same time? Or is there a reason to only do one side at a time?
I only have one drain pan! But yes, drain both and it would be 1/2 the time!!! Here's the 400 hour service video: th-cam.com/video/QwnB-MaMWaY/w-d-xo.html
My 2019 L2501 was a quart low also. Mine had 98 hours on it when I bought it if from a friend who had bought it new. He had never changed the gear lube and I seen it was a common issue for the the axle to be a quart low. I checked and sure enough, it was.
Weird, huh? Kubota doesn't forget to take anything off the price, but they short you a quart of oil in the front axle!! Here's a 400 hr service video if you haven't done that yet! th-cam.com/video/QwnB-MaMWaY/w-d-xo.html
Pro-tip: Leave a Wisconsin engine block heater (a shovel of red hot coals from the fire) under there for an hour or so before starting this project. The oil will drain way faster when that diff housing is nice and toasty!
At the end of the day, an hourly worker is filling up the fluids so better to check yourself, right? The gears are low in the front axle so even low fluid levels wouldn't do any damage by 35 hours. That axle will likely never give you any problems.
Good video, i could also recommend 2 ways to make the oil flow better 1, drive the tractor before draining to heat up the oil/lube to make it flow better. Or.... Drain it/fill it during thw hottest part of summer, hottest part of the day, with the axle facing the sun to heat up the oil/lube that way. Either way im saying it, hot oil/lube flows better, so get it hot and change it then. Thanks for the maint. Reminder.
"check your kubota axle oil." That's what I wanted, not a new piece of equipment, not a oil change, check the fluid. Do you push the dip stick all the way in?
That is sad.....dealer should have checked that before releasing it to you. I got a chance to used a L3902....sweet tractor: th-cam.com/video/p0P6_vgrufU/w-d-xo.html
I have a mahindra and the rear uses the same oil for hydraulics as the gears so hydraulics oil is good for the front as well. I don't think u need 80-90 in front logic just says if it's good for the rear it's fine for the front.
This is a hydrostatic transmission tractor, so the rear is lubed by the hydraulic oil. We changed that in this video: th-cam.com/video/QwnB-MaMWaY/w-d-xo.html

It's a quick check that's overlooked!
How do you check the level?

Thank you so much for the kind words!
Thanks. Changing my front axel at 175 hours if only to get gear oil in there. This is a light duty tractor but better to overdo the maintenance beyond factory specs.
Yes, maintain them and you'll get many trouble free years out of them!
It may speed up things up if you drive around in 4wd and heat up the axle fluid before draining.
That's a good tip!

I've always called it 80w90 gear oil. Good pointers on proper maintenance, it sure extends the life of your equipment.

Great video. Is there any advantage to running the tractor for a while prior to changing the lubricant? Thanks for your Videos.
For gear oil, I would say yes. For engine and hydraulic oil, no.....unless it's really cold where you are at. Then yes!
Hi Brad, this is on my list for spring maintenance. Thanks. Giving it a full watch.
Thanks Ross. A little tip for draining....get the oil warm!!
@@PineyGroveHomestead yup 👍 exactly. Thanks.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Where did you get your front grill guard from, I need one for my L3301!!!
I will recheck it but it took the whole amount (4.8 qts) to refill it.
Haha got it! Thanks!

I will check my MX6000 soon.
It's easy enough to check and add a little if it's low! Thanks for watching.
Just a hint, when refilling drop the sealed quarts of oil in a pail of hot water. Then open each one and fill. It will flow a lot easier.
Good idea!
Pro-tip: Leave a Wisconsin engine block heater (a shovel of red hot coals from the fire) under there for an hour or so before starting this project. The oil will drain way faster when that diff housing is nice and toasty!
I should have ran it a bit before I drained it to warm up the oil
Gear Oil: 80w/90. Thanks for the tip on time of task…
So good
Mine was definitely low when it was delivered. I checked it at 35 hours. Should have checked everything from the start. Hopefully there was no damage.
At the end of the day, an hourly worker is filling up the fluids so better to check yourself, right? The gears are low in the front axle so even low fluid levels wouldn't do any damage by 35 hours. That axle will likely never give you any problems.
Front axle oil change interval depends on model. My MX4700 is 400 hours.
Good point!
Mine had one quart in it at the first 50 hr maintenance, brand new tractor
Oh man, that is low. Glad you caught it early.
You may find that there is a vent tube in the middle of the front axle. It is a little hard to find. It is on the top of the axle.
I need to check that. It might be plugged!
Im thinking my L series uses the same hydraulic oil everywhere,,,,,, including the front axle.
You can put either in the front axle when servicing. Hydraulic oil is thinner and more likely to leak.
I think it would be advantageous to change the oil after a hard days work and the oil is warmed up…changing gear oil on a cold day can be challenging…
Great point!
My L3301 manual says to change front axle oil every 400 hours.
Was it filled properly when it was new?
Good video, i could also recommend 2 ways to make the oil flow better
1, drive the tractor before draining to heat up the oil/lube to make it flow better.
Or....
Drain it/fill it during thw hottest part of summer, hottest part of the day, with the axle facing the sun to heat up the oil/lube that way.
Either way im saying it, hot oil/lube flows better, so get it hot and change it then.
Thanks for the maint. Reminder.
That's a good tip to help it flow quicker.
mine was almost 2 quarts low
I've heard those horror stories...that's unacceptable.
At 50 hrs checked my 3901 and it was 3 qts low
I've heard that happens....too often!
My 4060 had a bunch brand new but I changed it anyways
A good dealer would check it before they let it roll out the door!
I call it gear oil
Thanks for watching.
What you call a “Japanese Socket set” is a Swedish invention. Johan Petter Johansson.
facts!
The dealers use vacuum pumps to suck out liquids.
That would make it quicker....it's so slow!
"check your kubota axle oil." That's what I wanted, not a new piece of equipment, not a oil change, check the fluid. Do you push the dip stick all the way in?
This model doesn't have a dipstick -- it has a fill level plug
My L3902 at 60 hrs was bone dry up front.
