All point are 100% correct. My morning walks are my self reflection and positive affirmation time. Walking has helped my mental health dramatically since I started committing to walking every morning. Me and the dog got followed by a coyote this morning. What an exciting start to the day. Love the channel.
I'm living vicariously through your videos and podcasts right now, I fell and broke my kneecap and won't be able to walk for a couple of months. I''m using arm weights and doing chair yoga (I don't want to break my chain of exercising every day) but I can't wait to get back outside walking.
Forgot to tell! Me being so enthusiastic about my walks inspired two lady friends of mine to try it out for themselves! One is 74 and very fit. She insists on the 10.000 steps a day which I don’t find a good idea, but you never know. The other just turned 70 and is not fit at all and is going to try with a small goal. You see Dave, you inspire all these ladies all over the world with just a 10 minute podcast. So grateful to have met you😊
Great info especially 10,000 steps a day to reduce Alzheimer/dementia risk by 50%. I've been doing 3.1 miles a day and have been listening to your podcast as I walk as well. Very enjoyable.
Wow!! I thought that was my secret lol. I am a non professional actor (community theatre) and my favorite way to memorize lines is while walking. Most of my walks are private play rehearsals. Love your channel.
I've just started daily walks in my subdivision. Began with three miles and jumped to five after three days. On the weekends I'll be hiking trails and hills again. I used to be a very active hiker, but driving to the National Park to hike was costly so fell out of it.
Hi Dave! We had thunder, lightning and pouring rain all night and even this morning. Normally an elephant couldn’t drag me out in weather like that. But guess what … as soon as my Fitbit is fully reloaded I’m getting out! I would like to have some rain even. Why? Yesterday I listened to the old podcast episode where you talk about the chain. And today is NOT the day I’m gonna break that chain! That is a huge motivator for me now. Have a great day! Mady
Brother, I am happy to discover your walking program here. I will start a walking program soon. We have severe winters here. What can I do during severe cold? I am 72 years old. No health problems.
The funny answer is move. But, I know that’s not realistic for many. To keep walking in severe cold find clothing that keeps you safe and warm and/or find some indoor walking places. I’ve walked many steps in my home when the weather wasn’t good
Hi Dave. Thank you for your video and audio messages. I have been inspired, informed and encouraged. I come to you today to ask if you do other things regularly as part of your health and wellness practices. For example, high intensity interval and strength related training. Or other things like meditation or yoga/tai chi? Thank you very much!
I also ride a bike most days, but at a leisurely pace, strength training, some HIIT, and planks. But, my foundational fitness activity is walking. Thanks for asking!
I have a (stupid?) question about how you make these videos. Are you reading from a script while you do this? If so, what is the equipment set-up you use? Thank you. New subscriber, loving these vids.
No script. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to say before I start filming. I also don’t do any edits. Thanks for the question and for watching!
Search for Walking is Fitness in a podcast app like Apple Podcasts or Spotify. It’ll be the first thing that pops up. You can also find the podcast on my website at walkingisfitness.com
I think I have a good question for you. Because I've been walking 3.5 miles a day, every day, regardless of weather, for DECADES, has my body become so used to it that it's just expected of my body? Like, is it now negligible after having done this for SOOOO long?
Great question. I’m not a personal trainer, but I do understand that the body adapts to exercise and we need to change it up. Walk faster, take the hills, go longer, etc. Not that every walk needs to be faster and longer than the previous walk, but it helps to change the dynamic from time to time. Maybe even add a different fitness activity to what you’re doing.
Most people use a pedometer, a fitbit watch or use an app on their phone - if you dont' own any tech, just know we average 100 steps per minute. So think about how active you are during the day, or if you have say a 30 minute walk, you probably get 3000 steps unless you walk briskly then maybe 3350 steps for 30 minutes
When I purchased a Fitbit I had no idea it would motivate me to get back in shape and start walking. It has been a lifesaver and I also have an Apple Watch to now .
