I first noticed this lack of balance when showering - when you're almost certain to close your eyes - and lose your balance. Everything you say makes sense. Thank you for the video; excellent information.
Your video on balance exercises at home is excellent. Our clinic performs data metrics on balance especially for seniors, and your absolutely right to add more arm movements in the corner to allow the brain to get more comfortable with changes in positions, therefore improving your response time if you feel unstable. Thank you for these amazing tips for your viewers.
Because of a tragic all on frozen concrete in 2003, I started using a walker, then 2 canes. But I have completely lost my equilibrium or blance.I feel stupid being days away from 76 and having had such an active walking & moving life. I hope to use your program and any others because I feel like a little child, first learning to walk alone without mommy's hand. Thank you! I have an active mind and a body that has danced, climbed on things, lifted and walked at the same time, and used to swim every day.
Hi Diana, why not get training from a physical therapist so you can master getting up from the ground and then you will know that if you do fall, you will be able to get back up...I know you can do this! Let us know how you are doing...I send love to you and God bless you always
Yesss...this is the kind of excercises that we need after 50 , simple don't need fancy equipment, but straight for the balancing result...just add with my eyes closed....Whoooph... ha ha ha...after 3 days...practiced, my level of balancing...feel getting better and better... Thank you Alyssa... for the wonderful lessons you have to us.... really working well...beyond my expectation...😊🎉
With your valuable guidance I am stepping without railing support.Your video s are giving me a new life 🧬. Enjoying the walking.Improved walking style.thank you very much 😊
I fell and broke rib the dr gave me an MRI AND Discovered my brain is shrinking. I was active but now im not allowed to drive. I love to walk but im afraid. I kno ww what you mean by confidence. Praying helps. My. Sons and daughter in law encourage me. Im76
I just love the exercise tips you have on this video. I just came from one video that was teaching me to stand still on one leg, but your video adding movement and the explanation behind it is a lot more amazing! Thank you!
Thanks I and my. Wife are in mid 65 and 55respectively we follow your stretching tips and found them very useful specially the hip stifness and walking tips.
Thanks Alyssa I really love your easy indepth style of explaining these movements. You make it very easy to grasp the concept I really need better balance.
If you wear bifocals when walking, try taking them off or just use your mono vision glasses to see if it helps. I often trip or misstep when wearing bifocals because your feet and curbs etc. are fuzzy because you are looking straight ahead through the top of your glasses and literally can't clearly see where you are walking.
I’ve had balance issues ever since I broke my femur 32 years ago. You have at least two ideas here that I’ve never seen before. Like using the corner and moving. Great info!
Hi Alyssa, great video - easy to follow. I'm 87 this year and tend to wobble a bit when waking.. I try to keep my eyes on the horizon but have to keep looking down due to the awful sidewalks here (Argentina) which doesn't help. Can you give us an idea as to the length of time for each exercise? Thanks
I'm in my late 60s, lifetime fitness enthusiast. Great information I can use today as something to do on my Kettle Bell training off days. Liked and Subscribed. Thanks for what you do.
Again, I just want you to know how much I value you and these lovely podcast. I love the information and the demonstration but I also love the length because when I finish with a bit of you I go and practice. It's just enough information for me to hold in my mind and be able to put it into use immediately. Thank you thank you again and much love and joy❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for some additional balance exercises to add to regime. Closing eyes is a biggy for me I discovered just how much I relied on vision for stability. Also had me realize why I get a fear of falling when looking out and down from a height, even steps with gaps between used to disorientate me if I looked at the space not step.
I knew my balance was suspect, but one night I had to leave a concert hall early to catch a train. The lights were low and I had to descend some very wide steps with no support. I was actually scared, and sure enough I went down. No injury, I picked myself up and fortunately managed the rest of the steps on my feet, albeit wobbly. I need this!!
THANK YOU. I have immediately fallen atleast 4 times. An unstable step on a dip in my yard. And today a step stone unearthed after decades. I am rolling and landing ok. But, soon it will not be. I am afraid I will wotk in this. Thanks
I am pleased you don’t refer to yourself as Dr. Alyssa as another DPT does on You Tube. I also prefer your shorts and tees to her skimpy clothing. Thank you for your genuineness.
Alyssa, I must say you're God sent...all your exercises are super cool.I have listhesis l5s1 & constantly motivate myself to follow you. Every exercise helps. Thanks a million!

Do you have ataxia?
Those orange shorts sre ugly and too small
Low vitamin D is #1 reason for brain shrinking. Ask your doc to test this and may need supplement

Thanks for sharing your experience around bifocals.
That's not something I would have thought of... I'll suggest that with some of the folks I work with.
Agreed. Bifocals can significantly affect perception and balance, especially on stairs.
Great information! Just had to sub. I will absolutely share this with my wife. Thanks.
Thank you!!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video.
At 74 with multiple PT therapies this is new --- thanks
You are welcome!
Also, the key to balance is staying lifted. I am constantly reminding myself of that.
You simply are the best thankyou 💓

I'm using Bosu Ball for multiple exercises now, but I'll incorporate what you taught us here as well.
Great! Make sure to catch the other videos as well.
I’ve done all of these and they do work. Most people neglect doing them at home and only do them at PT.
So glad to hear!

Say you do this once a day; how long overall should it be done (20 mins? Half hour?) , and how long to expect to see improvement?
Very helpful video Alyssa. I have a question: how helpful [or hurtful] would attempting these balance exercises in your bare feet? Thanks
Awesome 👌 ❤
