My name is Johnny Weir,” he wrote in a 2014 Falls Church News-Press column. “I have succeeded many times but I am just as proud of many of my great failures. I failed to win a medal at the Olympics, but I went twice and skated the performances of my lifetime. I failed to have a successful first marriage, but I allowed myself to love.”

I've been watching skating for nearly 30 years. Bravo to Johnny for adding a very engaging perspective and insight into skaters' choices and sacrifice for their extraordinary art. And Johnny - LOVE your look and unwillingness to sink to the same old tired comments.

His closing statement about the 2010 Olympics was poignant and touching. He should have been on the podium in Vancouver, but living well really is the best revenge. Congratulations on a great job in Sochi, and may we see you and Tara for many years to come!
Johnny: over the years we have seen your artistry and enjoyed many great moments watching you skate. And on top of his your work as narrator during the Olynpic games is so entertaining and informative. Best wishes in your future and hope to see you narrating at the Olympics for years to come. You will always have many fans!
cholden67 yeah. His interviews are amazing. He's very intelligent, and he learned Russian languages which is the hardest for Americans to learn. Definitely an amazing and a deep, well spoken person. Very well respect in all circles.
I would've liked to see him have a longer career. I was fortunate to see him perform during a christmas gala in melbourne, and he's seriously a god on ice. Good on him for having his own style and russia only wishes it had someone with his technique
First of all his senior career lasted 8 years and he skated in two Olympics. So the longevity was there. Second he was too injured to try and make the 2014 Olympic team. He had to retire right before the season started. But something amazing happened when he retired. NBC asked him to commentate and his 2nd career was born. Look what happen to him and Tara Lipinski in Sochi. They became the talk of the Games as the B Team that was commentating Figure Skating and his career took a whole new awesome path.
Thank you Johnny for Vancouver, the most intense sport moment in my life. You did skate like a Citroën "DS"and performed like David Bowie singing " Rebel-Rebel", and that stands for a lot of exceptional things Great to see how you inspired Yuzuru in his Sotsji gala performance.
He has beautiful eyes! I love that he's his own person and lives his life the way he wants. I'm glad he got out of Amish country or all that awesome talent would have never flourished. Bravo, Johnny Weir!
+ashli674 Incredibly enough, figure skating experts stated that had Daisuke Takahashi landed his Quad Toe, he woulda have been the one winning the Olympics and not Lysacek or Plushenkho.
***** It would have been nice if that had happened because Takahashi's program to me was much smoother and more enjoyable to watch than Plushanko's 'jump jump jump' And it was nice to see an American man win gold, I just don't like Evan so frankly Takahashi would have been neat. Eurgh I'm rambling. Sorry!

That's because the fur industry is some of the cruelest in the world. Cows are shot in the back of the head and it's a quick death. Fur animals are often clubbed in the head so they don't risk getting blood on the fur and this can be a slow and painful death.
I remember watching him skate at the and I just knew he's win. When he didn't, I couldn't believe it. Watching him skate is an experience. He's really precious and amazing!
I admire him. He's awfully honest about himself and what he wants to portray and legacy he wishes to impact on figure skating long after he retires from it. :)
+Megan Flanders I think he is one of the most artistic skater of all time. But I think he should stick to professional skating. I don't particularly think he is as good a commentator as he is a skater.
Elaine Snow Tara's needs to project her voice, half of her words are swallowed to the point that even with the volume on high, you don't hear all the words.
Elaine Snow If Tara was consistant, why did she insisted that Nathan is not the future, he is "NOW". Then later, she said that Max is "light years ahead of Nathan"??? Perhaps Max has more speed, amplitude and slightly more artistic...but "light years". That is a very inconsistant and invalid comment that she made. I am not a fan of Scott, but he was very conservative and reasonable when he made the final analysis at the end of NBC's coverage of the men's scores, while Tara and Johnny, both of whom went nuts for Nathan when he was skating...all of a sudden changed their tune in favor of Max. I want consistant commentators, not ones who change their mind in a matter of hours. FOUR quads fully rotated is amazing. To allow someone to win who did not even land a singel quad successfully is ridiculous.
+Vette gaddia I would answer that no one is perfect and that experience creates skill. Certainly Jim McKay wasn't perfect when he started out. I like Tara & Johnny because they are pleasant, matter of fact and knowledgeable.
i feel he is a beautiful soul. i got to know him because of yuzuru hanuy, and i can see clearly how he influenced yuzuru. i see lots of gestures of his are very similar to yuzuru's. beautiful skater.
He's smarter, or at least better at expressing his intelligent thoughts, than most ice skaters I've seen interviewed. Love the $hit outta him - except for the fur :-/
Johnny your beauty on the ice captivated me starting from last November. I love the fact that I watched ice skating when I was young. You are def the best ❤❤U Johnny Weir
He is my inspiration for skating. (Well that and I come from an athletic family pushing me into something, ANYTHING to do) I love watching him skate, and he's brilliant off the ice as well! Refreshing answers from a role model and a performer.

I love how Johnny embraces the art of figure skating. He does it purely out of love for it, not for winning medals only.

Deborah Dixon they r why skating is not watched in USA they r annoying and self richeous
Yuri on ice paid homage to him by portraying young victor as him. It's adorable.

One of Yuri's costume was also inspired by a costume of Johny Weir!
Wonderful personal story. Johnny is also an intelligent and insightful commentator on skating. His love for the sport is inspiring.

people who are upset at him for wearing fur all seem to overlook the fact that all figure skaters wear leather skates...
True
Meh, they use all parts of a cow as opposed, as opposed to say, a fox. Not that I care about the issue, just pointing that out.
Leather is a byproduct of the meat industry.
Fur exists because of fur wearing, simply.
We’re not upset of him wearing it... it’s how he wears it
