    I've actually had the experience of speaking with this Mr. Victor a few times and that guy, lemme tell ya...
    He's a freakin monster.
    He takes drugs to stay awake, he had a feeding tube installed, and his private nurse takes care of the bedpan and sponge downs. He hasn't left the desk in so long that the boundary between flesh and chair is ambiguous. He won't stop until WR has infected every byte of the internet, insinuated itself into your subconscious as a viral memory, and burned the ghost of its image over your corneas.
    That's the meta plot of WR. We have to save Vic!
    Seriously though, this project has come a LONG way and it's the one bright spot in today's game dev scene. These guys have regular, long philosophic discussions on mechanics and lore and art and game business that I wished were available as a podcast series. They have devs from 3 generations all unifying a concept that they've kept clear and central for years now. You know, the way you expect a game's development to be?
    I'm backing this and I don't back KickStarters as a personal rule. I believe its gonna make the goal and we're going to get a great game from some great people. That makes me feel good.

    It would be interesting to see a multiple stage quest performed in a procedural nature, much like you would experience with hand tailored quests that have you doing multiple tasks until the final conclusion. Like: kill bandit, go back and learn that someone is abducted by same bandit faction, rescue person and deliver them back safely, find out bandits are planning an invasion of town, lead an attack to stop bandit threat, get reward for saving town if quest line goes well or reduced if some objectives not met. And then because it is procedural, there could be altered quest paths and entirely new quests generated based on your actions to reach a different conclusion, such as betraying the town and getting rewarded by the bandit faction instead.
    Something like that which could also add nuance and faction based perspectives or moral quandries to the quests.

    • @Lorespire
      @Lorespire  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think this is the goal to at least some degree... its unclear if it will, in a linear fashion, go as far as you have presented here but the plan is for the VGM to take note of the quests you do and people you interact with and then create more quests down the line based on what you have already done and the poeple you have already interacted with... something that is at least similar to this, probably in a more drawn out fashion, does seem very plausible with the knowledge we have of the plans OLG has for The Wayward Realms

    Genuinely glad they limit their scope and outright deny crafting, farming and life sim stuff. I know its popular with the crowd these days, but I much prefer a focused experience from people who know what they are doing. Even getting the AA budget together and utilising it well is a challenge, it's far to soon to tell if they are technically up to making a compelling game. So not overwhelming the devs sounds like a good idea.
    Of course I wouldn't mind a game that is technically on the level of a 90s game but with seriously enhanced RPG mechanics. But I guess some level of modernisation is required to produce a viable product in the 2020s.

    This is by far my most anticipated game for everything we know anything about. More than tes6, more than gta6, more than outward 2, more than fallout 5, more than larian’s next game, more than kingdom come deliverance 2 more than death trash, more than monomyth and more than mirthwood and world of antera (my two runner ups to twr)
    I played dfu for the first time in 2022 and loved it. I started with morrowind in 2005 and tes has always been my favorite series. Dfu was a real big treat and its my second favorite tes game after morrowind.
    The pre alpha footage just fills my heart with so much joy, hope, and excitement.

      There isn't much combat footage of the game at this point. After Starfield, I’m not so sure about this whole “procedural generation” thing to be honest.

    • @Lorespire
      @Lorespire  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      SO, SO many people have said this.... you should join the Once Lost Games Discord and ask them about it... Here are a few Quotes from the Devs at Once Lost Games about the Proc Gen:
      "If anything, Starfield cemented that we are on the right track with our approach to the proc gen."
      "I don't think people understand that their proc gen (starfield's) was specifically meant to be lifeless and empty. They wanted them to feel like real planets"
      "We know the downside of proc gen and we do take steps to minimize it.
      Building the world in proc gen layers: land, waterways, erosion, resources and cities that fit on top of that.
      Spawning points of interest near the player for them to explore. The landscape is meant to have things like wildlife and monsters to hunt, resources to gather, events to come across, wandering NPCs, or just take in the sights while camping or fishing. At the end of the day, we aren't making a theme park game. We don't mind giving the player downtime to just take in the view"
      "But yea, we know the issues with proc gen and have been planning from the beginning on how to alleviate them"
      "I've spent a lot of time going through those Wolfheart video comments and responding.
      People absolutely have the right to be skeptical, I just wish they didn't cite Starfield as proof that proc gen is bad.
      Modern Bethesda has done irreparable damage to gamers."
      "Please don't use Starfield as an example of proc gen, lol"
      "We are nothing like Starfield. We actually are using proc gen to its advantages, not as a simple selling point."
      The Bottom line is that Proc gen can be done much better than it was in starfield but you should really join the OLG discord and have a conversation with them about it if you have concerns. Use this link- discord.gg/GKqyx67eUt

    Goblins moving on all fours occasionally is a tall order to animate, I'm told. Afaik it was one of the (many) things that really kicked the devs of Gollum in the balls, and I don't think we need to repeat that disaster. Or spend the rather limited funds of this Kickstarter on such aestetic niceties.
    Not sure how I feel about flat attribute bonuses for the various races, either. Just pushing the RNG in a specific direction is rather lazy design and can, in the worst case, lead to prohibitive builds along racial lines.
    Many more recent rpgs accentuate the strength and weaknesses of their races with several more concrete abilities that allow for a greater build variance, and that is a field I'm not *that* keen on the good old days.

    • @Lorespire
      @Lorespire  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I beleive you are right... there is a pretty good chance we do not get the animations for it but they are at least planning to give it an honest shot I suppose. I fully do not expect them to even attempt it for early access though(which is what the kickstarter funds are for)... goblins are a stretch goal we aren't likely to get but even if we did reach that stretch goal I think having those animations are more of a thing for the final game, if we get them at all.
      I would not like the flat attribute bonuses if that was all Once Lost Games was planning to differentiate the races but there are also plans for aesthetic differences, cultural differences and real mehcanical differences. When you think about it having differences in attributes just make sense when races are so varied... maybe not so much when all of the races are very similar, but that certainly isnt the intention in TWR...

    • @barefootwalk1798
      @barefootwalk1798 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Lorespire I'm not arguing against differences in races - far from it - but ever since Gary and Dave sat down to pen down their seminal work we've seen time and time again that, if certain classes or playstyles depend heavily on certain attributes, then one or two races being simply statistically better in those attributes will create a meta - a playstyle/race combination that is just obviously better at what the playstyle does than any other.
      Which isn't *bad*, per se, but it often incentivizes designers to stop right there, instead of looking at the races from the vantage point of what they can bring to each of the playstyles. So maybe the goblin doesn't get the melee damage bonus the ogre does, but then he is quicker and gets a taunting ability that messes with enemy AI, so goblin warriors are totally viable. Or the ogre just dumbly clings to the concentration of spells, making ogre mages a viable build choice. That kinda thing.

    My only issue with this game is it's all female pantheon.
    Even in our supposed "Patriarchy", we have both men and women gods, representing what they excell at... Men would be strong and resilient and rule destructive elements, while women would be gentile and fair and govern emotions and healing., (you know, masculine and feminine represented beautifully, completing each other, instead of stealing qualities and competing with each other...)
    Here, we have a skinny orc lady representing the god of strength and warrios? Why?
    Don't get me wrong, i absolutely love women in general and have no problem with them ruling and being gods....when it makes sense....but here it just doesn't....
    Orcs are supposed to be overly masculine, not betas ruled by women......

    aah, I disagree with the idea of the GM tailor adventures to the player character types. The GM should have quests that are natural extensions of the goals of factions within the world, and the PLAYERS decide how they approach those quests based on their character type. I feel like this is focusing on the wrong thing.

    • @Lorespire
      @Lorespire  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      fair enough, but the VGM isn't going to tailor every quest to your character. Factions will have hand crafted quest lines that are not tailored to the player. If your character isn't suited for it then you have to find a way to make it work. The tailoring comes in with sidequests so that you are MOSTLY getting sidequests that are relevant to your character both narratively and mechanically. Maybe the system isn't for everybody but I think it's a wonderful Idea and as long as they execute it well I think it's going to be a major improvement on the way most games run generative quests

    I remember when I first played Daggerfall on my x386 pc. They just dropped you in a dungeon and said.. good luck! I hope they go back to that. Games nowadays they roll out a red carpet for you and when you die a lot people whine about it. Daggerfall was harsh. I remember dying in a dungeon from a disease. There were so many skills, armor slots, you could wear clothes under armor. It had magic items you could wear and would have to take to a mages guild (I think) to get it identified. I think they had holidays when rare ingredients were on sale. The creature languages, if you were high enough in a language you could passfy that creature in a dungeon. You could write notes on the map. Awesome game anyways. If this is steam only I'm not giving them squat lol. I don't like my games held captive. I hope it comes to GoG... I've bought 14 games from that site. Good luck with the game dudes!!
