I heard Roy Orbison's wife suggested KD Lang for the duet of Crying months b4 he passed away.. KD's Orbison tribute was emotional as she tried not to cry while singing.
She does Canada proud, her voice is spectacular. She has such a beautiful tone and her control is phenomenal. Love her.
She is the best voice in music.. the country community treated her like crap when she decided to be her authentic self. Very sad… but we welcomed her on the pop/rock side. She is amazing

Full body chills every time I hear kd sing this song. I mean, come on... her voice comes from a place not of this world. We're just fortunate to witness it.
K.D Lang has one of the best voices in music. Her live version of Crying is absolutely beautiful. Most people don't know that Lang sang a duet with Orbison in the 80s for a movie soundtrack called Hiding out.
She was also one of the backing singers for his live performance "Black and White" which had a whole raft of other guest musicians playing his set list.
He was one of my favorite and still is.. Roy, elvis and freddie, too.. What powerful voices. Just beautiful. Not many female voices but KD's ranks up there too.

My intro to KD was her "Absolute Torch and Twang" album, which is still fantastic. She had one of the best country music voices ever. Roy was a huge influence for her.

I showed this video to my daughter about a year ago. She was 17 at the time, and just starting to appreciate the music that I loved when I was her age. At the end of the very first verse, she looked at me and said, "Wow!" I just laughed and said, "Oh, it hasn't even STARTED yet!" k.d. lang has a voice of amazing range and dexterity. He quiet notes can be mere whispers, but her belt will blow the windows out. SO brilliant.

Glad you liked it. k d Lang's solo version is great live. Got to see her perform it in concert and her voice felt like she was honoring Roy. She started off in Alt Country then moved into Country then continued into Standards and Pop. Juno's, Grammys her mantle has them along with Lifetime Achievements. She can sing anything she wants to. She has closed the Calgary Winter Olympics and opened the Vancouver Summer Olympics, both are MUST sees. She closed the Olympics and cleared the athletes section. When she performed she was early in her career, still doing her Alternative Country phase.
Also her version of So In Love from the Red Hot and Blue tribute to Cole Porter is also breathtaking. Her album with Tony Bennett is also worthy of praise.

She's a huge fan of roys. In fact- they did this song together, and she was one of the backup singers on his A Black and White Night concert- which is also worth checking out. Can't go wrong with anything she sings- but of course Roy is the best.
I saw her perform at a theatre I worked at in the late 90’s or early 2000’s. The walls actually shook when she hit some notes. She was amazing.

I'll echo others - her live version of Hallelujah at the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremonies is out of this world amazing.
She was really great on MTV Unplugged from 1993--a very smooth and beautiful version with so much color and control in the tone of her voice.
In 1987 Roy Orbitson featured k.d. lang in 'Crying' as a duet and it was fantastic! That hit allowed k.d. lang to reach a greater audience, and reintroduced Roy Orbitsom to another generation.
