Today, we compare the brand new Amazfit T-Rex to the Apple Watch Series 5 to determine my personal favorite smartwatch in 2020!
As a big Apple Watch user, one of my biggest complaints has always been battery life. So, that's what started my quest to find a smartwatch with not only great battery life, but also great features like notifications, workout modes and more.
Then, Amazfit reached out at the perfect time to present me with the opportunity to collaborate and review their new T-Rex watch. After seeing the specs, I was in! And in this review, I explain why I've been using it a lot more than my Apple Watch!

I like that with the t Rex I can use it on the job site as a electrician I was always afraid that a smart watch would get destroyed when I work.

Brandon great review mate! Btw does it have Alt/Baro and does any of the watch faces can display either. Also does it count climbed stairs ? Have you checked Garmin instinct? Great outdoor watch as well.

Me too, and I’ve already decided the Apple Watch won’t work for me after having two separate watches stop working properly after the one year warranty. Both watche’s force touch stopped working and the battery life went to shit just after a year. I’m giving this Trex a shot next.

You know what, I've had the Trex for a couple of months now and I can say I'm really in love with Xiaomi products. Used to its fullest, the battery lasts almost 1 week and a half, after the update. Used with the saver settings, goes over 2 weeks. You have an unlimited number of customizable watch faces and you can indeed change the straps and add some sort of screen protectors. The watch is shockproof and waterproof and for the price range it is a nice little jewel that is about to set a new standard of quality vs price ratio.
Xiaomi is the best electronics company period. What you get for themoney is excellent.

It is always good to see that competition is out there and when I say competition, I mean real competition without being cheap in quality and features. Have been looking for a smartwatch this year and the video has been very informative.
I would say the long battery life and durability would be my favourite feature since I’ll be wearing it daily and I do not want to keep worrying about scratching/damaging the watch.

Hey Brandon. I am just commenting on your newest video about an issue I’m having with iOS 13.3.1. My camera has been bugging and isn’t taking photos on the normal lens even if the shutter goes off. I was wondering if you have had a similar experience or if anyone else has. It seems like bug because it sometimes takes a photo and then doesn’t

Hi Brandon, Very informative video! I have been looking for a smartwatch, but apart from The Apple watch most of the others are geared to Android. Some of the features on Android are not available to iPhone users. With the Amazfit can you get all the same features on both Android and IPhones? If you can, this may be the watch for me! Are there any drawbacks for iPhone users, apart from those mentioned in your video. Very many thanks and keep up the good work.

great review. One of the issues I have with Amazifit watch software, is the sleep part of it. It only records your sleep if you sleep regular hours. I work nights and I sleep during the day. Amazifit needs to include people who sleep during the day and naps. And update it’s exercise program to include stationary exercise equipment.

I just ordered my T Rex last night and I’m hoping that on the many different watch faces there is a binary watch face available, do you know if it has one? Great video. I didn’t know about this watch and I’ll check it out when it becomes available. Love this as an alternative to my Apple Watch from time to time.
You mentioned your Apple Watch not being comfortable after a day of wear. You should consider an elastic band like Braxley bands. They are very comfy and you can find some variants on amazon. Just a thought.
Hello on the zepp app there is a section called my records where it records your best times for 3k, 5k ect. My current watch GTS doesn't support personal records. Does the T-Rex have this feature?
Awesome review! I didn’t know about this watch until your review. I used to wear my Apple Watch series 1 every day, but found that the battery was dying way to quick in the day after having it for 2 years. I don’t plan on buying another expensive Apple Watch but I’m definitely intrigued by the T-Rex.

Super cool watch - that battery life is unreal - and the name is awesome. I’ve been coveting an Apple Watch for as long as Apple’s been releasing them but I honestly like the ruggedness and all around design of the T-Rex. Thanks for the comprehensive review!

As a Xiaomi user, just be aware of issues surrounding sleep tracking, it doesnt record any if you sleep during the day. (Work nights).
@@ascelot Is the night tracking accurate? Sleep time, wake up time, awake time?
@@ondrej1893 I don't think it's that bad, but have had limited experience with other devices, Nokia steel was my only other sleep tracking watch, FYI, mi band 5 is nearly being launched.
for the first watch, take the BIP. It's SUPER cheap, lasts for weeks and shows you the notifications. You will learn to appreciate the smartwach as a concept and you will know which features you specifically will need in your next smartwatch - mostly because BIP does not have them :D
For me for example, any watch that will not allow me to dictate a response to a whatsapp message in Polish will not be any better than the BIP, so I still have to wait to buy new smartwatch

I don't own a smart watch and really didn't think I had a need for one. I have been looking at G Shock watches for a SHTF watch to be prepared for any emergency situation but then I just saw this review and like what I see. This is the best is both worlds, a smart watch that is tough. I don't need to have a ton of crazy functions like music or texting from my watch. I want to be able to switch my watch face to whatever mood I'm in and to have a good digital compass and GPS. This fits the bill along with the extreme battery life, I think I'm sold. But of course, as I write this, I see it is sold out and now my hopes are dashed. I guess I'll have to wait till I come across them coming back in stock. The Gun Metal grey has my name on it. The AW aluminum doesn’t have a sapphire crystal screen, only the higher end models have that. The aluminum model only has the sapphire crystal on the heart rate sensor (the back)
There is no smartwatch with a sapphire crystal

How much exercise history can you store with the amazfit? In other words, does it's safe weeks, months?
Not just for the giveaway, but this was a really good video. I love the way amazfit has military certification and is a reasonable price. A good simplistic design that you can wear on a daily basis.
This is a good, robust watch, but military grade means nothing because our shit is always breaking/broken
My concerns are more on training and sleep monitoring. What I hate about other smart watches is the lack of accuracy on the heart rate zones.
Is there any way to make it a smooth moving watchhand instead of a ticking one, on the T-Rex?
Wow. That battery life is amazing , and the ruggedness. I feel it makes the T-Rex a outlier. It seems to have the better package.

It does help, Apple should have gear protection like bumper shield around edges also to protect the face too but look like as you said it made for use in office not made for action to wear more but i didn't wear any watch for years because I use had hearing aide like remote control but after they stop support the watch I couldn't buy one.
What i like the most is the G-SHOCK like design. That is dope
If my Gear s3 Frontier give up on life I'd definitely consider picking one of these up. I used to wear gshocks and similar before I got my s3 but kept the habits of banging it around so it's a bit scratched up now. Still works well, but battery doesn't last too long.
