I knew there was an advantage to staying up so late - catching an AL82 upload right as it arrives. The more I watch these vertical shoot-em-ups, the more I realize... it's crazy that an attack chopper has enough missiles and bombs loaded to fight some of these waves.
Played this at Houston, Texas' "Fame City Indoor Fun & Amusements Center" in the late 80s. This was a fun shooter to play with some really cool super scaler boss sequences that were surprising to see for that era in arcade games, normally only seen on Sega games. I hope arcades will one day make a resurgence with some new titles. Galloping Ghost Arcade in Illinois is the only arcade attempting this.
@wizkaqueefa9003 Yup, and for racing game fans like me, the super scaler term just stuck. I know Taito, Namco, and other scaler game makers had comparable techniques, but Sega simply went all-in to scaler perfection.
So this is from where the impressive scaling & rotation effects were inspired from when Nintendo engineers were developing their SNES Mode 7 hardware back in the day that we would later see in all their SNES games. Truly the arcade experience at home!
First of all I have to say that I'm very impressed by your gameplay skills, in games of all genres. I also love that you keep the correct aspect ratio (no fake widescreen or weird borders) in your videos. I was surprised that Konami didn't use one of the gimmicky levels as the first stage. Often in arcades, people never got to level 2, but I guess they could see the fancy levels in the attract mode.
A-Jax > Typhoon. If there’s a version where you play as the helicopter first, I’m playing it. The jet fighter portion is irritating; I blame the over abundance of clouds.

Almost like a heli version of "Xevious."

"Super Scalers" are just what SEGA called them. This game is made by Konami but with similar scaling effects to SEGA's super scaler shooters & racers.

I always liked the fact that the airplane in this game, which is clearly based on the F-14 Tomcat, is called Jerry Mouse.

Why does the opening cutscene show the jet taking off but the gameplay is an attack helicopter?
You don't control the jet until the second stage. The European version (Typhoon) corrects that by switching the first 2 stages around.
20:58 so glad we saved the “clutches of evil”…does that mean we’re the baddies 🤔😂

1面はレーザーですよ、序盤の可能性
This game reeks of konami so bad.
You can actually see it.
The art and concept designs are that of
Contra and Life force in one.

Shame the whole game isn't 3rd person but they probably didn't want Sega coming after them for ripping off After Burner
