This is GOLD, my Dad talked about this match often, he was a senior in high school at the time. He said he became a life long Trevino fan after this match. Thank you so much for uploading!
Lee Buck Trevino gave Jack Nicklaus fits on countless occasions. Had he not been struck by lightning at his absolute peak, he probably would have won more than ten majors. The best striker of a ball other than Ben Hogan in the game of golf.
Where were you in 1971…and how was your golf? By 1971 I’d won 2 club championships (I’d win 5 more) , 3 district championships and a VGL CHAMPIONSHIP… from Australia I was 26.
This is why i loved watching the likes of Trevino then Woosnam compared to the likes of Nicklaus then Faldo, they just got on with the game and hit the ball whereas the latter two were like watching paint dry. Trevino could do stuff that other golfers would never try bar the great Ballesteros, two magicians on a golf course. Cheers.
Thanks for watching Amigo! I think for anyone that snuck a few majors in that era is why Lee is elevated. Also the amount of respect his ball striking garnered from all those greats like Jack, Snead, Watson, Miller etc. Moe Norman placed him alongside Hogan as the only 2 on the planet that could hang with him.
The Golden Bear vs The Merry Mex. It just does not get any better than this. Tiger really never gave us the classic showdowns the way many were hoping. Should have been many but really that Era it just wasn't happening. Would have been cool to see Tiger compete against the old timers. I think he would have been the Harry Varnor of the day, another Charlie Sifford, without the cigar. Tiger would have had to adjust to steel shafts and reap wooden woods, which might have required a totally different skill set, including far more use of the feet, which is not a given he had that gift. Trevino was twinkle toes around the ball, and the Golden Bear l his paws were so big they gripped the ground like it was a 747 coming in for a landing. And Palmer, he too was good on his feet.
Lee’s my kind of player. I never realized Jack played as slow as he did here. Cool vid! Thanks for sharing!
You could cook a hotdog and eat it before Jack hit his shots.
I heard Brain Harmon talking about wanting to quicken up his pre-shot. Never mind, Brian, you're in good company.

Glad you enjoy it....Your dad had a reason to join the fleas!
Ty for posting. Have really enjoyed studying Lees swing. And it’s history! Fun to watch👍❤️
Super win by Lee. Jack always gracious, even in losing.

I didn’t realize how slow jack played, damn!
Yeah, so damn slow. Drove the other players crazy. But it was Nicklaus so what can you say?

Thanks! We will try!
Muy Bueno! Gracias.
LT ..Like a Boss 💪🏾⛳💪🏾
I liked when Lee blew a kiss to Byron Nelson after the shot from the bunker on the 18th. Classic moment
I've only recently realised how long Jack used to take to hit the freakin' golf ball ! 😮
Go Lee
Brilliant two legends. Jack is the best ever though. I love Tiger but I think Jack placed second as many times he won. That's nuts if true
Thanks for watching Amigo!

"Who you blowing kisses to, Lee?"
"Hell, anybody who'll take 'em."
04:33. Very interesting. No tee
