Deborah, please consider making a video about stretching (yoga etc), strength training (especially lower body exercises), cross training and the benefits there of. I see so many skaters struggling with advance and basic maneuvers simply because they have not developed the core strength or flexibility to do the task effectively and while skating itself can help build up some of this muscle and agility, many skaters don't skate often enough to reap that benefit. Once I started to do more lower strength training exercise and continued my yoga journey, it improved my skating ability tremendously and allowed me to do many moves that I struggled with before.
I love the idea of “things you can do with toe stops in” but I would really LOVE a video or two on flowing with style while skating outdoors! I’m a big trail and street skater and I’d love to learn some moves to do when skating distance to bring some flair! Plus stuff with my toe stops :-)
I second this! for example, I usually have access to asphalt road in the recreational park, so i mostly just skating forward, but occassionally would like to skate backward and then turn skate forward and vice versa. Recently I went to a covered skate park which has a smooth surface and found out I can transition from forward to backward so smoothly and then continue to roll or stop at my wish, but I can't do it on asphalt/gravel path in the park. I have 78A wheels so I'm on outdoor wheels already. I just don't know how to smoothly transition in such surface
Ok now I feel a little better about how totally uneasy I felt with jam plugs in about a month ago for the first time. I fell almost immediately, skated for a few minutes, constantly felt like I was going to fall and opted to put my toe stops back in. This video will be so helpful when I decide to try them again! Stopping was the hardest thing - I didn’t even realize I didn’t know how to properly/easily stop without toe stops until I took them out. I feel really solid with skating now in general, so it was a bit shocking to feel like I forgot how to skate.
Anxiously waiting for the video about turning around and stopping! I've watched all the videos on the playlist you've recommended and tried it for weeks but I still can't understand how the movement works or what I'm doing wrong 😭 But I won't give up! Actually, I think this could be a good topic, a talk on how to deal with the frustration of not getting a certain move, it can be really discouraging.
For myself, the vast majority of the time, my skate instructor tells me to bend my knees deeper. She tells me if I can touch my knees in a squat, I’m deep enough. 😆 Couldn’t lift a leg skating backwards, deeper bend; can’t transition, deeper bend (and look behind and commit), and footwork troubles, you guessed it - deeper bend. I joked about getting us t-shirts with slogans, so she could just point.
Could you please do a tutorial on the dribble? and then adding the turn? I'm struggling to stay in place and I bet you can tell me why and how to fix it! 😍
Film yourself (facing different directions). You'll be able to tell what's not right when you watch it back. I was drifting backwards whilst dribbling and I saw in the footage that I was pushing my foot out further behind me than I was pulling the other foot out in front of me. You can only stay in place if there's equal force going in both directions. If you're drifting, you've likely got a similar issue.
A friend gave me jam plugs last night since my toe stops were just straight metal, and the two mistakes you mentioned are exactly what I did. I got used to them relatively easily and had already been practicing transitioning all four directions for the last month, so it went pretty smoothly. Immediately started practicing toe balance too, can't wait to add those muscles to my repertoire.
hey debby do you have some videos talking about the different types of skating? Like figure skating, dancing, derby etc. And what are the prerequisites that they need, the type of skates that they demand (if they do need a specific one) Always glad to see your stuff because I'm learning way more with you than my teacher, thanks!!
This is literally the perfect video for me, I nearly cried yesterday. I rollerblade and braking is way different, so when I tried to stop forward with the toe stops I ended up crashing 😂 let's hope today goes better
I’ll be visiting Pigeon’s on Thursday for some open skating @ 9 am. Funny thing is that I was thinking I needed to practice stopping when I was @ your family’s roller rink on Saturday going too fast for my own good. lol! You read my mind. Thanks for doing this video.
Hey Dirty! You Rock! Outstanding advice and an amazing personality 🤙 Thanks for your videos and for making us all smile with your upbeat and positive vibes🛼
Great video. I started roller skating when I was 5, then went to ice in my 20s, then to inlines- I’m going to try quads again and will have to relearn it all over again. Will be fun.
I love your videos!! Watching from Argentina:) I would love like a small space skate moves video, also maybe safety tips for skating in the streets, it's scary for me
I recently contacted the store you recommend to see if they had Snyder dance toe stops (my favorite!!). They didn't have in stock but they ordered and shipped to me. Awesome service!!! Does only Snyder make that size toe stop?
The first thing I immediately noticed when I decided to get out of my toe stop comfort zone and try jam plugs was my core wasn’t what I thought it was. Who knew! I’ve been skating a long time and didn’t realize that would be so noticeable. I’d love to find some good exercises to build up my core before working with jam plugs again. Any tips?
I had a problem with my toe stops once and they kept falling out. At a busy rink on a Saturday night, I figured that a toe stop (and nut/washer) dropping to the floor would be dangerous, so I skated w/o them for the first time. Good practice for my stops without the toe stops! (Which I already knew/practiced at derby)
Hey, Dirty! Can you cover how to do manuals and disco spin? I know they're basic but I'm a struggling begginer here lol Thank you in advance. You're the best!
How to deal with wide feet... I have purchased two pairs of expensive boots. One too big, and one that fits, but it narrow. I have a narrow right foot and a wider left foot. Skating with the larger boots fits the width of my left foot but is too long for both feet. My toes don't feel secure in the large boot. The smaller boot fits lengthwise, but is narrow on the one foot. I've tried different lace patterns... what do you suggest?
Hahaha I lost the toe stop of my new right skate the day I first used them and I fell for the first time in years…that’ll teach me not to tighten them enough!
A topic I'd love to see is derby training from home LOL - We can't practice with teams -and some of us don't live where there is a derby team (yet) but that would be awesome if you (or a cohost) could do a video about that!!
yeees! this came at the perfect moment💪 please make a video about edges and weight shifting and just the logic behind the dance moves like dribble and zero and so. My brain just learns better when I now what's behind the move not just how it looks like :D
Thanks for this video. Can you talk about common or even expecting skating injuries, perhaps from repetitive movements and how to manage or do preventative work with exercises or skate gear. I would love to know more on how to prevent knee pain, proper form for patella alignment/tracking to minimize pain off skates especially after doing drills. Thanks
It's all about those leggings for me. I need a pair! Love them and I'm not even a floral type of person. So cool that you are at Pigeon's pop up rink. Ditto with Shelley W...I need me some style and flair while skating outdoors on beach paths. I'm hitting Long Beach in a couple of weeks and love to try out new skate style moves. Btw, I just met some skaters yesterday at Disney and we were talking about you. She had taken a class from you and said you are the same amazing instructor in person.
What crazy timing! I switched to jam plugs last week and was practicing stopping a few days ago. @Dirty Deb, which of these backwards jam plug stops works best when you’re going fast? I was trying to practice, but I was nervous the stopping methods I knew weren’t going to work at that speed so I just transitioned back to the front and T-stopped (aka I chickened out lol)
Thank you, I am not ready to take my toestops yet bur I have started practicing stops without using them. Just couldn't work out how to stop going backwards unless I plough.
Am I the only one that finds difficult to stop in a T with outdoor wheels? There a no wodden floor rinks in my country so everybody uses outdoor wheels. When stopping in a T, the wheels don't slide, they get kind of stuck in the floor :')
I don't even have squad skates, never skate on them. I do inline skate, has no toe stops in them, as you are aware, Yet, I learned so much from your skate tutorials. Still learning. Wish you are in Toronto.
Dirty, when I am skating outside, I want to get comfortable skating backwards and making a quick, baby jump over a small crack. Will you help me with that?
Hey Dirty Deb, I don't believe you have yet covered how to while skating down a steep hill, slow down and then come to a complete stop, have you? I would love to learn that, thanks.
NTS means no toe stop for those of you who don't know. I love skating without toe stops but I do know that toe stops have a lot of advantages for certain elements.
This is really helpful. I switched out my toe stops for jam plugs and it’s like I started to skate all over again, but eventually I got the hang of it without falling over. I would love to see how to do dribbles with the jam plugs.
Well the time has come. Starting figures and coach says no toe stops. And trying to do Rhythm... they say no to stops. So I try on a pair of skates without toestops... (not realizing they didn't have toe stops, and oh my gosh, I was about to fall all over the place gee.....) So I am gonna do wrist guards for a bit because I really do use my toe stops quite all the time so this is gonna be interesting while using my skates without them. Am I nervous ... YES SIR BUDDY !!!!
Hi Deborah. I would love for you to talk about all of the skates you wear and the plates you have on them and why. We all want to be like you and have what you like for yourself and us. Thanks.
Hi Deb, can we get a tutorial on the C Step, Dips, or the Zero? Also, would love a video on the history of the Fountain Valley Skating Center and your family. Thank you so much! You’ve taught me everything I know 😊
It's terrifying taking the toe stops off after skating with them your whole life! I need all the safety guards, especially wrist and elbow pads. You will fall forward when you least expect it.
I'd love to learn how to stop outdoors without doing a Tstop... I wrecked some wheels doing that and got flat spots on them, so now I'm to scared to Tstop on any wheels cause I'm worried they'll get wrecked again
Hey! Watch my "Stopping on Roller Skates" playlist. There are all sorts of videos there that show you the proper ways to stop. Good luck! th-cam.com/play/PLPSwwHrrD2oejzYOdQkLPLhCQ_SoXFuFx.html DO A PLOW STOP OUTDOORS!!!

This is so timely!! Just switched out my toe stops for jam plugs and I feel like I’m learning how to skate all over again 😅 thanks Dirty 🖤🖤
It's that bad?

I need a tutorial crazy legs. I look just as goofy now as I did 3 months ago When I first started attempting this .
Me too 🙄
Same here! 🙏🏼
Could you please do a tutorial on the dribble? and then adding the turn? I'm struggling to stay in place and I bet you can tell me why and how to fix it! 😍
I'm drifting when I try to dribble too!!!!
Oh yes please!!

@@Voyher_ thankyou! I'm much better at them these days.... just takes practice (duh 😂)
Best teacher in the business. Just ordered my parts and build some new roller skates. Best wishes from Belgium

Thank you for teaching us everything we know, Deb!! We love you!!
I would definitely sign up for a beginner artistic roller skating short routine, yes please!! 🙌
Nice transition between toe stops 💯🔥
Hey Dirty! You Rock! Outstanding advice and an amazing personality 🤙 Thanks for your videos and for making us all smile with your upbeat and positive vibes🛼
I appreciate that!
Lol!!! You must have felt my vibe... we ain't skating for them judges!!! I'm constantly starting and stopping with the T.
Great video. I started roller skating when I was 5, then went to ice in my 20s, then to inlines- I’m going to try quads again and will have to relearn it all over again. Will be fun.
This is the only video on how to stop without toe stops. Been after this for months! Thank you Debbie 😊 How do you do it going downhill? 🙈
Amazing!! Thanks Deborah ❤️
How do people do all of those moves and glides without the stoppers? Also do i need smaller indoor wheels?
What a fun space to skate! Thanks for your videos! I'm inspired to skate!
Thank you so much 🥰 my jam plugs will be here today and I'm super stoked for my new chapter in skating 😁
This is perfect timing since I'm gonna switch my toe stops for some jam plugs

squats, lunges, wall sits, planks, bridges, deadlifts, dead bugs... have a look at RollerDerbyAthletics or talk to a physio or trainer.

How do you get comfortable to do toe stop runs? I feel like I end up slipping on my wheels
With toe stops?

Any recommendations for a smaller toe stops but not jam plugs? I’m looking for some transition stops

Miss Deb - love the reference to "snack area" : ) Love you!
Is it ok to leave plugs a little longer or do they have to be screwed in all the way
Thank you, I am not ready to take my toestops yet bur I have started practicing stops without using them. Just couldn't work out how to stop going backwards unless I plough.

I miss your outdoor trail skating video series, obstacles, hills, stopping quickly when dogs kids or tourists get in our way at the beach!
Hey Dirty are moxie skates good for kids if their feet are still growing?
They are great skates. If you child's feet are growing quickly, you may end up replacing them often though.
Very helpful video !! Thank you !!! ☺️✨

I remember watching this video before moving to jam plugs.
I now ride a NTS plate 😎

Maybe a video for Beginner senior citizens.
This is really helpful. I switched out my toe stops for jam plugs and it’s like I started to skate all over again, but eventually I got the hang of it without falling over.
I would love to see how to do dribbles with the jam plugs.
How to dip, pleas 🙋♀️
After practicing 3turns from forward to backwards for a long time, now we desperately need some help to make 3turns to the front again 😅
Im still learning skating, first day. Do I have to raise one of my foot whenever I walk?
Put enough pressure on one foot, to release pressure on the other. Do not walk forward.
I’m going Thursday. Already got my ticket
Dirty... can you show different types of back to front transitions, please? Thank youuuu!
Would love tutorial on dribbles and the pivot turn in between. Is it on the toes? Heel and toe? I am not getting it. 😒

Do you have a online class or a instructor in florida? Willing to pay if it's possible.
