- Welding up the last bits of the Brush Hauler and getting all kinds of dead trees and mess cleaned up and burnt in order to get the pond road all cleaned up. Hope you enjoy!

I thought that burning trees is bad for the environment, just asking the question. Leaving trees to rot down locks carbon into the soil and is better for wildlife and humans isn’t it?
Like with everything in the woods there is a balance. Kind of talked about it in the video,. Due to the over abundance of dead fall from the ash trees, the scales were tipping in the wrong direction with the amount of deadfall. Keep in mind, rotting trees emit carbon during the duration of the decomposition. Burning them releases carbon as well, just a lot faster obviously. There are tons of studies by the third party and US Forestry regarding burning and decomp carbon release. Well worth the read if you're interested. Doing this cleanup is us trying to even out the scales and get the woods floor back to where we think it should be. Appreciate ya watching
It also adds a lot of fuel for any forest fires.
@@CaptainKleeman in addition… your property backs up to a huge natural forest. The possibility of wildfire encroachment is only one careless cigarette butt away from disaster.
Clearing the tinder that litters your woods is the best means you have of reducing your exposure… the small amount of carbon released by burning those small brush piles pales in comparison to the volume that conflagration of the entire forest would release.
PS: The US Forest Service and National Park Service do this on a regular basis… it called “Controlled Burning”.

Mike has to consider the safety of his family and property. There is so much deadfall in this region due to a dry hurricane Ike years ago and the massive amounts of dead/fallen ash (as much as 1/3 of trees on most properties here) from the emerald ash borer. If we have a dry season or even a drought like 1988, people will die in massive wildfires in an area with fairly dense populations. He is doing a service to mankind by being proactive reducing a totally out of balance fireload.

The absolute best piece of equipment you can have is the one that’s right there when you need it. Doesn’t have to be the newest, or biggest or fanciest. Just being available when you need it is the most important thing. Don’t know what I’d do without our tractor that size.

Hay, Mike! Here's a tip for ya: When I burn brush I keep an old 3-prong hay pitch fork at the fire. Makes putting the edges into the center of the fire - real easy and keeps you far enough from the fire you don't get burnt. Great video! Lee
Mike I think what you are doing makes perfect sense . Maybe if the federal and state governments would do this on a much larger scale the forest fires wouldn't be so intense . We all know those fires are going to happen , but we can do things to lower their intensity . Not all trees should be hugged some should be cleared .
Mike, I like your brush carrier for moving the smaller limbs to the burn pile. It is nice to see you taking care of your property by making it more resistant to wildfires roaring through your property. Blessings to you and your family.

Once again you have provided both education and entertainment with your video. As a retired Fire Chief I have seen firsthand the dangers of the interface between forest and residential areas. It is great to see that you are taking the steps to eliminate the wildfire risk by using responsible controlled burning.
The brush rack is certainly a useful item. It always amazes me how creative you are and how skillful you are as a self taught welder. I can only hope that I can get half as good at welding.

You’re definitely a couple weeks ahead of us here for “spring” and having everything greening up. Easily my favorite time of the year watching everything come back to life and the daily change as the forests fill in with leaves once again.

Always nice to see the 755 showing off. I'm also very impressed with welding that panel to the carrier using the stick welder, wish whoever made some of the wire filled gates I bought two years ago were as successful as that. Thanks for the video, take care!
Dan, I was at the farm store yesterday… they had a whole rack of gates where the cattle panels had been welded onto tubular frames. A bunch of the wires were burnt in two where they were welded to the frame… and those were made by Pros!

Improvements on the SSC (small stuff carrier) has definitely helped, I wonder if a piece of ply attached to the front lip will help in the short term ? 🤔

Loved this video ….it is so uplifting to see you develop your property. Thank you also for leading by example on how to maximize your resources and stretch it by being frugal. You are far from poor yet because you do yourself what won’t people won’t, and later when someone sees your property and thinks that you got lucky in finding it, you can show them how they too can get there.

It is nice to see someone who is concerned with the balance of nature and the natural cycle, by taking the 'Bull by the Horns' so to speak you are starting a long (lifetime) journey of bringing control to the forest, your property, I say lifetime as my wife and myself moved to our property in 1996 and we are still working with nature to keep that fine balance between so called Managed and Miss-managed control. We are totally organic and always like you have the critters who live in the area cared for and about at all times, as they no matter how unpleasant and unfriendly they may be to us humans they are all part of the food chain and when you burn you also put potash etc into the floor of the woods and those creepy crawly things dig it over and bury it to feed other creepy crawlies. It also shows your commitment when its raining and you are there burning in a controlled way, It will soon bring some comments seeing you are a fireman and how you should Know better than to burn in woods etc etc. Many not so committed would stay indoors when raining and wet and then burn on a sunny dry windy day instead. Just keep doing what you do Mike, and you have a beautiful homestead that is a credit to you. Also without that great family of yours this project would be a chore. So stay safe keep well and best wishes to the children and Chelsea. Oh and that camera addict doggy of yours missed it today, but it was raining. Great videos always great content. Thank you.🚜🚒🔥👍

Please remember to leave a few dead wood trees for keystone woodpeckers habitat, which creates a wide variety of habitat for other species.

Great job Mike! The 755 got a good workout. It sure would be nice if a Fella had a "FRIEND" that owned a skid steer he could use without him having to pay for using it. But I guess a Fella needs "GOOD" FRIENDS these days.😂 But I understand some people don't like using someone else's stuff without paying for it. Your a Good Man Mike! Things will get easier around the farm once the 555 is up and running.

Clever move with the brush carrier and the possible addition of more cover. Wondered why you were clearing and burning then realized I had seen quite a lot of tree fall that would compromise the forest floor from natural regeneration. Great video - always interesting and fun.

Definitely a fun thing to do
Around here we would call the 755 a gentleman farmer’s tractor. If you had 100 acres to work you would need a something bigger. As long as you don’t push it too hard the JD 755 is just the ticket for you. Remember to use a little of that wood ash for your garden. There’s several vegetables that can use a little extra potassium and phosphorus to have better yields.
Good tip
Put the trunk in early on after a burn down - and then stuff around it. The heat will dry out the stump and torch it nicely. Less stuff to roll off .

Im gonna borrow your idea on the brush carrier for my 430 w/ 44 loader. I’m gonna tweak the front pieces with a little more angle so gravity let’s brush slid off when fully uncurled.

Would be nice if you had a grapple for your little tractor and some grip tires, but I know you use your 755 for mowing your yard to and more aggressive tires would tear up the ground! It’s looking good Mike, or a skid steer with a grapple would be nice too! I guess we use what we can get our hands on my friend! lol 😂 😊
