  • After nearly 2yrs of owning and loving my Massimo T-Boss 550 UTV/side-x-side, I provide my experience and pros/cons of this UTV. And I demonstrate how to use all the controls, etc. as a tutorial for anyone considering buying one.
    For more details about this (including operator and technical manuals) and other videos shown on this channel, and links to parts, visit twc-projects.net/resources and twc-projects.net/amazon-store
    For more videos about this Massimo, see my playlist "UTV/side-x-side" ( • UTV/side-x-side )
    This is a longer video than my usual, mainly because I wanted to cover all the questions and requests I've been getting regarding this machine. And since the original review I did ( • 24-Massimo T-Boss 550 ... ) is currently my most viewed video, I needed to be sure I did this one justice. Hope you enjoy and find this helpful. Let me know in the comments. Thanks!

    Have watched 2 of your videos on this unit and went today to test drive one. The new ones now have front and rear cameras built in and hard half doors. All in all seems like a good unit if you take care of it like anything else mechanical. I have not purchased one yet but your videos are making the decision easier. Cost today is $11,495.
    Thanks

      Glad it helped. If I remember correctly, when I saw a Bighorn in person, I was surprised it looked smaller to me than the TBoss. I'm 6ft tall and I have no problem at all fitting in the TBoss. It's pretty comfortable for just running around my property.

    I have been looking at these machine's for a while and then I watched your video and decided to look into it further. I bought mine this past October and I found a 2022 T-Boss 750 at a power sports dealer about a 45 minute drive from my house. They wanted $10,999 for it and that is what the price was for a new T-Boss 550 which was what I was looking for after seeing your video. So I bought the 750 and I just love it. It's everything you said it was. This one does have the electric power steering which is great. Thank you for this video. I'm an older guy and will not use it for hard trail riding. I also use this on my property and visit my friends in this rural area of Maine. I also did a remote on the winch after seeing your video and was very simple. Thank you again. Sterry

      So glad to hear that Sterry. If you don't mind telling me, what part of Maine are you in? I'm from Maine originally, and still have family there I try to visit as often as I can.

    Have one of these t-boss 500F (flatbed instead of the dump bed with new touchscreen model) on order from Tractor Supply on sale for $10,500, first purchased the Coleman 400 on sale for $6999 and it has drum brakes, was having issues with a spark plug already, odometer's plastic cover had melted in the sun, underpowered with no Low gear. That one was also loud with lots of vibrations of the bed especially when slowing down. This will be a nice upgrade without spending exorbitant amounts. Thanks for the review! I watched your other videos with the problems you've had, but it gives me confidence I will be able to do my own repairs if/when needed. I will be using this mainly for hunting (hopefully can carry an elk) but also around town.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds great. Thanks for sharing. Glad the videos helped. And good luck with yours. I think it'll do a great job for hunting, especially the flatbed. Just got one last week. Having to do some linkage adjustments to smooth out the shifter. Was really Having to fight it. Got it to where it's working a bit smoother but still not where I'd like it to be. I'll get it there. But yeah aside from a few bugs to work out. Pretty good little boogie buggy.

      @twc-projects  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! Congratulations! Yes, mine has always randomly been hesitant to come out of reverse, but happens infrequently enough that I just fiddle with it, or back up a little more, and then can get it into forward drive. Never thought about messing with the linkage, but that's a good idea. I'll have to try that some time.

      Excellent! Depending on how much snow you get, you may want to go for the 750, if it's in your budget. I love my 550, but I'm thinking the extra 200CCs might come in handy with pushing wet, heavy snow. Either way, I hope you love your T-Boss as much as I love mine.

    Great video, I’ve considered one of these because I’ve always thought these and the Coleman’s looked better than the big named models and of course the price tag looks a bit better !, my concern has been the quality, I mean they look well built but who makes the engine?, and how available are parts and repair info on these? Would you take this on say a 50 mile trip? How about horsepower, do you feel it’s not say underpowered ? Thanks, hope to hear back and again great video, we’ll done !

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Kevin. Thanks for the positive comments. I definitely love this thing and feel the quality is very good; better than the ones I see at Bass Pro Shop, Tractor Supply, Lowes, etc. As far as parts, it's like nearly all the UTVs out there. Parts and motors pretty much all come from China. I have a whole play list ( th-cam.com/play/PL8T-iSUAEa2RJBDMfgnq06UztKiydJW3e.html ) on this Massimo from 2+yrs of owning it. So you can see what I went through with repairs--learned the hard way--and see it in action. As for a 50mi trip, we'll I wouldn't be inclined to take any UTV on that long of a ride, but I'd be very confident in my TBoss to do that. It's more like a small pickup truck than and 4 wheeler. If you're doing a lot of hill or rock climbing, you'll want more power. But for most uses, it's got plenty. See my trip to Western VA mountains to get a better sense of this thing taking a pounding in rugged landscape. Hope these videos help. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

    You have the best videos and how to deal with this machine. Keep them coming. I can get the new 560 for under $11k OTD. I am tempted to go and just slap the cash on the dealers table. Do you think these machines will catch on and parts be readily available? I wish it was a main stream system like Polaris, Honda, and such but then what you get on one, you would be paying $17k or better!

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't seem to have trouble finding parts. See my website Amazon Store ( twc-projects.net/amazon-store ) for lots of parts. The key is searching on HiSUN and Bennche, as well as Massimo. All the same machine but under different brand names. And now that Tractor Supply sells them, they are becoming more prevalent. I've had people tell me they've bought 2023 T-Boss 550 models for under $10K, with more features than mine. So definitely shop around before you spend extra money you don'tneed to.
      Thanks so much for watching and supporting my channel.

I live on a lake so i really just use it to drive 300 yards down to my dock and back, i did notice oil on my back differential, passenger side, the research ive done points to an oil seal replacement, like 15$, seems to be pretty common with these, any info?

    Thanks for the great video. I have been looking for a UTV for a while now and the Massimo T-Boss550F is in the running. However, I have not been able to find the cargo bed dimensions. Does anyone have this information?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words. I just measured it. These are not precise measurements since the bed is not uniform in its shape at all.
      44" forwad width
      41" rear width
      35" tailgate opening width
      28" length from bed front to tailgate
      12" deep
      Note: The above numbers are averages, since the sides taper in from top to bottom and front to back.
      I took some pictures I can email you, if you want to provide your email address. You can drop me a secure message by going to twc-projects.net/contact.
      You are probably also considering the TBoss 550F model, if you need a more utilitarian bed. It's bigger and more versatile.
      Hope all that helps. Thanks for watching.

    I got one yesterday that had the same low idle and sputter and die issue right off the lot brought it back got one that idles steady at 1500rpm. But the wierd thing is how slow it takes off I thought it isnt broken but apperently acceleration is zero to 40 in like a quarter mile lol. Definitely won't drift in dirt lol.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Congratulations! That's exciting. Sorry you got a bumb machine at first, but glad you got it sorted out. As far as acceleration, because it's a CTV transmission, it doesn't engage immediately. Once the belt fully engages, it will accelerate. It's not like a car; it takes some getting used to. If you just step on the gas hard, before the centrifugal clutch has properly spun-up, you'll just wear out your belt prematurely. Once you get the hang of it, you should be able to accelerate faster.
      Hope you enjoy your Massimo as much as I do mine. Thanks for watching.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Congratulations! That's awesome! As far as the light bar, unfortunately I didn't record that. But, it was pretty straight forward, requiring one hole to be drilled through plastic for the switch, a screw hole for relay to mount under the hood, and a couple screws holes for light mounts on roof. The rest was fishing wires and zip ties. From this video, and the original 1yr review video, you should be able to see where everything goes.

    Hi Sir
    Really looking at purchasing one of these to maintain cabin property. Only concern for us is the width we have between properties. Wondering if you could tell me the width of your machine? Website says 54”, but seems a lil wider to me. Thanks so much

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a perfect rig for a cabin property. You were smart to ask about the width, because I grabbed a tape measure and found the width from widest points--from rock slider bars--is 59.5". The rear tires are about 58". And keep in mind, for trailering this thing, it's about 1,100+ lbs fueled. Hope this helps and you enjoy.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm 6ft. I just sat in my TBoss and used a tape measure. It sits up high, so you don't feel like your knees are up in the air or anywhere near the dash/console. I measured 6.5" from my knees to the dash and 7" from top of my head to the roof. You should have plenty of room in this thing.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never found myself thinking it vibrates too much or is loud, but I'm pretty much always off road, so things always bounce around. It's certainly not anywhere near as loud as a riding lawnmower; probably about the same as most ATVs I've ridden. It's definitely not a car, so it's not super quiet. And if you leave stuff on the seat beside you when you take off, don't expect to stay there when you stop. 😀
      Hope that helps. Thanks for your question and for watching.

    Did you add a battery tender to the Boss or do you think it needs one? We live south of you in NC and it gets somewhat cold this time of year as you know. I keep my Honda ST1300 on a battery tender and always have any motorcycle. Just wondering what you have done and found out????

      Awesome! At the time I bought this one, they were only available directly from Massimo in TX, so I bought it on-line, site unseen. It was delivered to me on a flatbed truck all ready to go. Just added gas and that was it.
      Hope you also have a good buying experience and ownership experience. Happy riding.

      Those look like very nice machines, but the price difference was substantial at the time I bought mine. And now that I've owned it for 3yrs, I wouldn't trade it for one of those machines. The Massimo is the perfect machine for my needs.

      I've been very happy with this machine for my needs. I've only driven one other brand (Polaris) so I don't have much to compare my Massimo to. I have several videos on this UTV ( playlist -- th-cam.com/play/PL8T-iSUAEa2RJBDMfgnq06UztKiydJW3e.html&si=ZvADGLgm4jxxKr4M ). So hopefully watching those will help you get a better idea if this one is right for you. Thanks for watching my channel.

      So sorry to hear you had problems with yours. I've had mine over 3yrs now and still love it.
      I'm curious. Did you buy it from a big box (e.g. TractorSupply), dealer, or direct from Massimo. I've heard of people having problems with assembly quality issues, such as loose bolts or pour fitments, from dealer purchase and big box stores.
      I bought mine direct from Massimo in TX and they shipped to me fully assembled and ready to drive. Only had about a half gal of gas, but everything was excellent. Every bolt tight; proper air pressure in every tire; battery fully charged; etc. I know these machines require a lot of assembly out of the crate from China when they arrive at the dealer/distributor. This may have something to do with the random one here and there I hear about where someone had issues day one.
      Though most people only post on the internet when they have problems and frustrations, I only recall 2-3 legit people like you complain (people like me who don't abuse their UTV and have actually owned one of these) tell me they had issues early on and wouldn't buy another. Most people tell me they love the machine, but getting good customer support is the hard part, which is what I experienced too.
      Though I have no affiliation with any manufacturer or dealer, I do have thousands of people watch my videos. So I don't ever want to misslead anyone.
      Which is why I really appreciate you sharing your experience and for watching my channel. Sincerely, Ted

    Our upper windshield does not seal with the bottom windshield. Is this normal? There is a space between them.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is not normal. Should be a clear rubber weather strip that seals the gap between them. Reach out to whomever you bought it from and let them know it came without that, and ask them to send you one. Thanks for watching.

    Can you put a snow plow on it? Does it have enough power for that?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great question. I know Massimo sells plow kits for this, and there are companies that make plows that mount onto these. There are lots of videos out there with people using UTVs to plow snow, but I don't know if there are any about the T-Boss 550 specifically. It seems capable, but you may want to consider going up to a bigger engine. Of course it'll always come down to the depth and wetness of the snow, which is different every storm.
      Unfortunately I just don't have any personal experience with plowing snow in my Massimo. So I can only share what I've noted above.
      Thanks for watching and for your question.

    Do these come street legal from factory? Besides the tag

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว

      In limited areas they are street legal, with conditions. Each state and county may have different laws, so check with your local department of motor vehicles. In my area, for example, I have to register and insure mine (license plates), and can only drive on public roads with a speed limit of 35mph or less. Hope that helps.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why would I do that? I love my 550. 😀
      Seriously, I don't do these videos for money. In fact they take a lot of money and time to create. When you see a review on my channel, it's only because I purchased the equipment to use for my own needs. No one lends anything to me, gives me a discount, or gives me compensation of any sort. I just do these to help others like me.
      Wish I could help you, but I won't be doing a T-Boss 410 review, or likely any other side-by-side review until my 550 finally reaches the day when it needs to be replaced.
      Thank you for asking though, and for watching my channel. Hope you find what you're looking for..

      I'd imagine it's like any equipment or vehicle--find your nearest authorized dealer, or local cycle repair shop, or DIY. I like to start with trying to do it myself. But if that's not you, I recommend you locate and talk to your nearest authorized dealer before you purchase. Again, like any equipment you buy. Hope that helps.

    Top speed? Will it do 35mph? Street legal?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Manufacturer claims 45mph, but I haven't been able to get it above 40 on level pavement, which feels plenty fast. It is street legal in some counties/states. In Virginia USA, in the counties where these are street legal, you need to register and insure them like a car. No inspection though.

    • @twc-projects

      Other than the one $19 part that failed (you can watch several videos I have on that repair) it has been a rock star. I never worry if it's going to start and run perfectly; and I use it every weekend. Of course like all equipment, I'm sure it won't last forever. But for the 2yrs I've had it so far, I'm very pleased with it.

    I don't like the clutch system. I had a Massimo machine with the same thing went through a puddle maybe 2 to 3 inches deep and ended up getting water in the clutch it rusted half way open so whenever you started the machine it would try to drive away from you and you couldn't ride it because the clutch wouldn't fully open when your rpms went up. Ended up having to take it apart and soak it in some rust remover and then grease it up

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds awful. Fortunately, I've never experienced anything like that. This CVT mechanism on this model is fully encased, so I think they've addressed that problem. I've been through water 2ft deep and have watched videos of people going through water up to their butts. Not sure how the thing even continues to run under water like that, but they keep doing it.
      Thanks for your comments and for watching.
