That's the exact way i teach my 5 year old girl, she drove her first car when she was 4, sat on my lap to teach how the car works, stearing around a hug parking lot, using the blinkers, windsheald wipers and changing gear (stiringwheel flap) and how to back the car up... Like you said, they will be familiar with it, so in my mind, that will help her alot down the line🤟

I have been plowing snow with a Honda rubicon four wheeler since I was 11. It gets super cold on a 4 wheeler and side by sides are expensive. So I have to make due with what I got. Good to see someone teaching their kids young how to drive things. I remember learning to drive a car for the first time and I had no problems, I was even able to parallel park. If your worried about him driving and parking use a Utv or 4 wheeler with cones to teach him how to park. It helped me so maybe it will help him.
when you said the thing about it being like a car.. I learned to drive in a f-350 working at a summer camp and driving a riding mower helped because while it is two different worlds it helped me learn to control it.
You did a good job instructing your son Stan. Just enough information and you let him go for it. You challenged him as well. You weren’t patronizing or condescending but you gave him enough information to let him learn by himself. Good work dad!
This is just the thought you could install a 2" pipe and split it on the bottom of your cutting edge of your plow that way it stays on top of everything and will not tear up your gravel or lawn this is what we do with our big trucks. Sometimes them skids will get hung up on certain things while you're plowing.
Those shoes are stock on polaris Snow Plows...I just plowed for the first time with my sportsman 570 two days ago... the snow was not very wet but we got 13"of snow! IT WAS AWESOME! I did clip a curb and wrecked 1 part of my shear pins.. luckily you can flip it over for a second shear!!
Cool of you to teach your young buck how to use that. Nothing cooler than being a young man learning how to operate some equipment. Had to make you feel good on the inside. He seems like a good young man. Something about apples and trees and falling near comes to mind, ha!
It did a nice job of leveling your rough drive. Yes, it will dig in and take off high spots but much less when the drive starts level and is frozen. I actually remove my shoes normally.
Hey I got an older pug utv and on the top ege of plow I mounted a pice of conveyor belt so snow don't roll over the top and keep gravel or anything from hitting the windshield... To each is own keep up the good work brother 💪
I’ve been plowing my driveway with an atv with a 54” plow for a couple years. I love it, it’s so easy and fast,much better than a blower for my application. My shoes are pretty high because I have a mix of old lumpy busted concrete and gravel lol
You're a good parent, who knows how to show his kids the ropes. You should look at the Roxor, which is a UTV that's more jeep-like, and literally drives like a jeep. It's also very upgradeable/modifiable.
I have a 2002 Polaris Ranger 500 which I bought new and have a six-foot snow blade with it. It continues to plow snow every winter. They are much handier than a tractor, pickup, or skid loader also angle my blade much more than you did in the video and the snow rolls off to the side rather than rolling in front of the plow.
That's cool! I have an Autistic son that probably won't ever get his license so we bought a Honda Pioneer 1000-5. It's a pretty impressive machine. He loves driving it!
I learned how to drive on a backhoe. Now I know there’s a pretty big difference between a backhoe and my little 4 cylinder car. But since I learned on the backhoe I feel more comfortable driving large heavy vehicles. There was a company that I worked for which they provided company vehicles for their labors and plumbers. Plumbers pretty much all got swapped to box van/truck pretty much like the side of a ups truck. But yeah definitely worth learning to drive on many different vehicles
i do the same with my quad plow. always wondered why truck plows don’t do the same because it would extend the life of the cutting edge and make for happy customers when they don’t have to spend spring raking all that gravel back to the driveway. The only downside is sometimes not having a full scrape off ends in spots freezing when temps drop and makes for a bumpy slippery driveway. I bought what are dubbed as “edge tamers” for my tractor loader too. this helps keep the cutting edge off the gravel as well. problem is my driveway being hilly makes for uneven cuts. is what it is.

My 8 yr old drove my car a bit .. up in central mn we have a small farm .. drives the skidsteer at times too needs longer legs .. slips wood stacks wood all his choice .. tonight he helped mom skin a small buck .. but that's how they learn if there willing then let them to it all these were his choice .. he wanted to weld and help me do to legs on our raised gardens it's amazing .. each there own but being willing on there own teach them as much as you can ..
Kubota 1100 RTV works amazing in real deep snow, Diesel tho but it has diff locks and all that good stuff it's basically a tractor, We would also use it too pull bins that got upwards of 2000 pounds and we'd chain 4-5 of them on and it'd pull it with ease
Wow im really impressed with how that moves snow wow ive used a regular 4wheeler with a plow and it just couldn't move the Minnesota snow so I took it off and got a snowblower for my lawnmower iv3 been happy with that ever since
Same issue with most snow blowers, you need to adjust the shoes or you get to rake up the gravel from the entire yard... I've been thinking of getting a UTV and setting it up with a front mounted 3 point style blower with an engine in the bed running a pump like a skid steer set up. Would make a handy rig to do driveways in a couple towns because you don't end up with lots of banks to deal with. Plus the UTV would be better than most tractors as you could easily run it on the streets and not worry about the trees and wires as much.
Great info, Same is true for a walk behind snow blower. I learned that the hard way two years ago after blowing a bunch of my driveway rock into my front yard. yikes
@@Dirtmonkey Mine is an Ariens deluxe 24. It's a homeowner grade, but it certainly does everything I need. My choice was based almost 100 % on the fact that the dealer is within 5 mi. of my house. And of course, it was in stock and ready to go when the forecast was calling for 8 inches of snow at the time.

so funny enough thanks to tractor time with tim i was introduced to edge tamers. currently we use our JD 1025R with the front end loader bucket to move snow on our gravel driveway. At least our portion. before adding the edge tamers all the gravel would get scraped up and into the yard. now they act just like those pucks and are a skid shoe for your bucket. they take 5 minutes if that to install and un install. i can even plow into the yard and put my piles further into the yard leaving more space in the driveway to park the cars. you could even use them for other materials like mulch piles, stone, dirt, etc placed on the grass. they’re truly a god send. the only thing you lose is a good back drag.

I drove my first machine alone at age 6, a old Ford 8N tractor. Dad had to meet me at the farmhouse to stop it because I couldn't reach the brakes. 😂 mom threw a fit.

This comment might be a day late and a dollar short, so to speak, there's a video out there that shows a gentleman taking a piece of PVC pipe and making a cut in it with a saw and attaching it to the bottom of his plow to protect his gravel driveway, I've done this and it worked great, good luck and enjoy your snow 🌨️
I was taught to start the machine, first, and then remove the snow. This allows the machine to come up to operating temperature as you're doing that. No, it does not "waste" fuel ... Low range while plowing/working is your friend.
I had the 60in polaris plow on my sportsman 570 and it was too much for it. It didn’t have enough weight so it would spin me sideways instead of pushing it. lol. I sold it and have a 54in snowblower for my tractor.
On my new fisher HDX it was an option shoe kit. My driveway is dirt 600 feet shoes are a must. It really sucks when the ground isn’t frozen. Thanks Again
Get them young ones behind the wheel ASAP, and get them in as many different types of vehicles as possible. Being trusted to drive a D9 at 14yo makes you feel damn proud of yourself... and a little invincible.
I have a Yamaha Viking with a warn 72” plow just used it two days ago on 6” of wet snow worked great , I was impressed as well also the warn was much more heavy duty than I thought . Thanks for the video

I’ve plowed with a Polaris for many years. If you are going to use it on gravel driveways only, put some chains on the rear and some weight in the bed. The additional traction mid to late season is a must. Your call on the chains on pavement. You may see a few marks in the spring but it will push 2X more snow.
Thanks for making this video. I've been contemplating putting a plow on my Gator 835 with HVAC, but was wondering how well they'll do. Seems like all the TH-cam videos show these things plowing 1/2" of snow. I was particularly surprised to see how well you could turn with it with a plow full of snow. Also, trust your commentary. I'm 50 and I've been plowing snow with garden tractors since I was about 9. I'm so excited to put a plow on the Gator. I live in NE PA and if it could only handle half this much snow it would be fine.

If it doesn't already have one you should definitely get a front or rear mounted winch so if it does get stuck you can yank yourself out with it! That thing moves a lot more snow than I thought it would!

Seems like a badass little machine that moves a lot of snow for such a small machine but then again so do bobcats! Can you imagine if that thing actually had a lift bucket on it so you could dump it wherever you wanted it + push it. Maybe one day. Great video though and a great test. if it has a three position 4x4 switch and thats a polaris part then you have one wheel, two wheel, and 4x4 that only engages when the rear tires slip. the one wheel drive is turf mode so it doesn't rip the yard as much compared to a traditional locked rear.
I use a Bobcat S250 (enclosed cab) with an 84" blade to try and recover as much aggregate as possible. I use the shoes til the ground is frozen and then lower the blade 'til just touching the gravel. When using the blower you have to be even more careful.
Indian summer is my favorite time of year ..... an last week we got dumped on in north central Saskatchawn couple feet first day an a good foot next day still digging 👌
With the price of SxS now days I don't think I'll ever buy one like this or one like from Polaris or can am. After using toro workman's for work there is no better machine especially for the price! And if I needed a little heavier one I would definitely buy a bobcat toolcat to have a loader and a 3pt hitch is priceless and if I ever bought one for around the house it would be one like a big hown where they're nothing fancy and super simple especially with just the standard vtwin Honda motor but my first choice would definitely be the Toro workman they are so heavily built it's crazy and they come in Diesel, have aux hydraulics for different attachments you could even run a wood splitter with it and my two favorite things about them is the long 6 foot super hd metal hydraulic dump bed I added taller sides to mine and have filled it completely fulll with class five and it couldn't even tell. It's rated for A ton or a ton and a quarter payload capacity which is crazy! Then my absolutely favorite thing is they are offered in a manual transmission so no more. Smoking/slipping belts and you can always find the right speed and gear when working especially with having a hi and lo! They also can be 2wd or 4x4 and both come with locking differentials which is also great to have and it's all mechanical so do actuators going bad. And like I said earlier they are built extremely heavy like I'd you see one raise the bed and look at the rear end and the engine and transmission craddle and it's crazy how they built it and especially with the built in hitch on the rear too! And they have all the options a normal SxS has like windshields and tops to a full cab! We even had a snowblower for ares that used the aux hydraulics instead of the typical SxS snowblower that uses another engine. Besides being able to haul over a ton(I hauled close to two tons of class five) they also have an extremely large towing capacity too the only other machine that'll match the specs is a tool cat. They also have the best turning radius of any machine too since they are a cab over design and you sit over the front axle

Hey, thanks for the vids. Suggestion: Maybe try a small propane heater, i.e. like Mr. Heater F242010 MH4GC Golf Cart Heater, to quickly heat up the cab. They fit in the cup holder and last a few hours. Great mini heater. Also, Frankie could use it in the field for his cold hands. Take care.
Wet snow is all we get in my area and the drivers go nuts when it is spotted! :) Do not use a single stage snow blower for the wet snow, though it is easier then shovelling. (Wet snow clogs the chute after 5 minutes then you have to unclog it and start again.)
I like to do that setting the blade two notches high then go hit the center of the driveway with the blade angled towards the side with the deepest rut, then go and drop it one more angling the blade the opposite direction to get the other side before it snows. This way I am regrading my driveway taking the ruts out and lowering the crown of the driveway, because the ruts just keep getting deeper because the constant compaction of traffic, and the flow of water in the rain. Then every couple of years I add some more gravel. I did this until I just bit the bullet taking a home loan out and having a layer of mid level binder 3 inches thick put down then a 2.5 inch layer of surface Asphalt that I got at a really good price because the asphalt company was working on a Interstate job and I got Superpave asphalt that has polymer and recycled glass and asphalt in it at a great deal. Compacted my asphalt driveway is 4 inches thick. Almost as thick as most paved secondary roads brand new, and thicker than most subdivision roads brand new are about 1.25 to 2.5 inches thick

@@Dirtmonkey Mine is an Ariens deluxe 24. It's a homeowner grade, but it certainly does everything I need. My choice was based almost 100 % on the fact that the dealer is within 5 mi. of my house. And of course, it was in stock and ready to go when the forecast was calling for 8 inches of snow at the time.
Oh heck yeah. They make Great machines. I use an Ariens Tracked unit which is residnetial-for my heaviest duty commercial work.

I have a polaris 570 midsize with a Denali 66" county plow. I stick 300 lbs in the bed and push upwards of 18" of snow. These things are amazing.
so funny enough thanks to tractor time with tim i was introduced to edge tamers. currently we use our JD 1025R with the front end loader bucket to move snow on our gravel driveway. At least our portion. before adding the edge tamers all the gravel would get scraped up and into the yard. now they act just like those pucks and are a skid shoe for your bucket. they take 5 minutes if that to install and un install. i can even plow into the yard and put my piles further into the yard leaving more space in the driveway to park the cars. you could even use them for other materials like mulch piles, stone, dirt, etc placed on the grass. they’re truly a god send. the only thing you lose is a good back drag.

I drove my first machine alone at age 6, a old Ford 8N tractor. Dad had to meet me at the farmhouse to stop it because I couldn't reach the brakes. 😂 mom threw a fit.

This comment might be a day late and a dollar short, so to speak, there's a video out there that shows a gentleman taking a piece of PVC pipe and making a cut in it with a saw and attaching it to the bottom of his plow to protect his gravel driveway, I've done this and it worked great, good luck and enjoy your snow 🌨️

I was taught to start the machine, first, and then remove the snow. This allows the machine to come up to operating temperature as you're doing that. No, it does not "waste" fuel ...

I got so fed up with my puny 5ft quad plow, made adjusting 30" little plows for the edges, now i got a 9.5' quad plow, sped up plowing by 70%.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one that calls defrosters "defroggers".

I had the 60in polaris plow on my sportsman 570 and it was too much for it. It didn’t have enough weight so it would spin me sideways instead of pushing it. lol. I sold it and have a 54in snowblower for my tractor.
On my new fisher HDX it was an option shoe kit. My driveway is dirt 600 feet shoes are a must. It really sucks when the ground isn’t frozen. Thanks Again

I have a Yamaha Viking with a warn 72” plow just used it two days ago on 6” of wet snow worked great , I was impressed as well also the warn was much more heavy duty than I thought . Thanks for the video

@@Dirtmonkey at first i thought the gravel shoes were for pavement but figured out they arent.
I’ve plowed with a Polaris for many years. If you are going to use it on gravel driveways only, put some chains on the rear and some weight in the bed. The additional traction mid to late season is a must. Your call on the chains on pavement. You may see a few marks in the spring but it will push 2X more snow.
Or just buy tracks for your plow

Thanks for making this video. I've been contemplating putting a plow on my Gator 835 with HVAC, but was wondering how well they'll do. Seems like all the TH-cam videos show these things plowing 1/2" of snow. I was particularly surprised to see how well you could turn with it with a plow full of snow. Also, trust your commentary. I'm 50 and I've been plowing snow with garden tractors since I was about 9. I'm so excited to put a plow on the Gator. I live in NE PA and if it could only handle half this much snow it would be fine.

If it doesn't already have one you should definitely get a front or rear mounted winch so if it does get stuck you can yank yourself out with it! That thing moves a lot more snow than I thought it would!
My Ranger 800 6x6 does an amazing job plowing snow. It takes mine about 20 min of plowing to fully warm up and then it will heat you out of the cab.

Seems like a badass little machine that moves a lot of snow for such a small machine but then again so do bobcats! Can you imagine if that thing actually had a lift bucket on it so you could dump it wherever you wanted it + push it. Maybe one day. Great video though and a great test. Throw a 12 volt recirculating fan in that cab. Will not be any warmer, but the windows will be clear.

if it has a three position 4x4 switch and thats a polaris part then you have one wheel, two wheel, and 4x4 that only engages when the rear tires slip. the one wheel drive is turf mode so it doesn't rip the yard as much compared to a traditional locked rear.
I use a Bobcat S250 (enclosed cab) with an 84" blade to try and recover as much aggregate as possible. I use the shoes til the ground is frozen and then lower the blade 'til just touching the gravel. When using the blower you have to be even more careful.

Hello from Maribor, Slovenia. No snow here, yet ;)
With the price of SxS now days I don't think I'll ever buy one like this or one like from Polaris or can am. After using toro workman's for work there is no better machine especially for the price! And if I needed a little heavier one I would definitely buy a bobcat toolcat to have a loader and a 3pt hitch is priceless and if I ever bought one for around the house it would be one like a big hown where they're nothing fancy and super simple especially with just the standard vtwin Honda motor but my first choice would definitely be the Toro workman they are so heavily built it's crazy and they come in Diesel, have aux hydraulics for different attachments you could even run a wood splitter with it and my two favorite things about them is the long 6 foot super hd metal hydraulic dump bed I added taller sides to mine and have filled it completely fulll with class five and it couldn't even tell. It's rated for A ton or a ton and a quarter payload capacity which is crazy! Then my absolutely favorite thing is they are offered in a manual transmission so no more. Smoking/slipping belts and you can always find the right speed and gear when working especially with having a hi and lo! They also can be 2wd or 4x4 and both come with locking differentials which is also great to have and it's all mechanical so do actuators going bad. And like I said earlier they are built extremely heavy like I'd you see one raise the bed and look at the rear end and the engine and transmission craddle and it's crazy how they built it and especially with the built in hitch on the rear too! And they have all the options a normal SxS has like windshields and tops to a full cab! We even had a snowblower for ares that used the aux hydraulics instead of the typical SxS snowblower that uses another engine. Besides being able to haul over a ton(I hauled close to two tons of class five) they also have an extremely large towing capacity too the only other machine that'll match the specs is a tool cat. They also have the best turning radius of any machine too since they are a cab over design and you sit over the front axle

Hey, thanks for the vids. Suggestion: Maybe try a small propane heater, i.e. like Mr. Heater F242010 MH4GC Golf Cart Heater, to quickly heat up the cab. They fit in the cup holder and last a few hours. Great mini heater. Also, Frankie could use it in the field for his cold hands. Take care.
Wet snow is all we get in my area and the drivers go nuts when it is spotted! :) Do not use a single stage snow blower for the wet snow, though it is easier then shovelling. (Wet snow clogs the chute after 5 minutes then you have to unclog it and start again.)
I think your right about the single stage on wet snow.
I liked the video but I wanted to see how far you can drive into deep snow! Well maybe for another vid...
Great Idea.
I like to do that setting the blade two notches high then go hit the center of the driveway with the blade angled towards the side with the deepest rut, then go and drop it one more angling the blade the opposite direction to get the other side before it snows. This way I am regrading my driveway taking the ruts out and lowering the crown of the driveway, because the ruts just keep getting deeper because the constant compaction of traffic, and the flow of water in the rain. Then every couple of years I add some more gravel. I did this until I just bit the bullet taking a home loan out and having a layer of mid level binder 3 inches thick put down then a 2.5 inch layer of surface Asphalt that I got at a really good price because the asphalt company was working on a Interstate job and I got Superpave asphalt that has polymer and recycled glass and asphalt in it at a great deal. Compacted my asphalt driveway is 4 inches thick. Almost as thick as most paved secondary roads brand new, and thicker than most subdivision roads brand new are about 1.25 to 2.5 inches thick
I currently live in South Mississippi now but am looking for to move back Northward to at least the Blue ridge mountains of Tennessee or maybe Montana or Wyoming or the Dakota's.

First off all your videos are usually pretty awesome love watching them thank you very much for putting them out that snow plow would be pretty cool if it had bolt-on skirts to turn it into a pusher and the transmission on them things is always jerky it would be cool if they had a hydrostatic drive instead of that centripetal clutch other than that really awesome looking tool
