From what I recall he had lost his entire retirement from the locals. But it was the cement company and the town utilities that pushed him over the edge. 👍👍 Nice job Martin.
he had HEAPS of money. He even had inherited his dads entire estate. He profited massively from the sale of his property. Seriously, he sold his property, lived renting in it for 18 months, bought a massive bulldozer, spent all that time building it... he was a lunatic who was out to get anyone who dared defy him. He has a history of this. When he first moved to that town he lobbied to get gambling legalised there. When he was questioned by a reporter who was against the idea he threatened violence against him. He was clearly a loose nut. I mean, the cheque incident was a perfect example. He wrote the cheque out wrong, they asked him to correct it and he flew off the handle. All he had to do was make a small correction and it was fine, and yet he believed that tiny request was enough for him to declare they were all against him and deserved destruction. Tell me that is a reasoned thought process.

City fines are in every city, $100 a day is CHEAP, my town of 1700 has a $500/day fine on the books and it and a property neglegeance ordinance was copied over from other similar towns, they all copy the SAME crappy thing under that idea that "well, nearby town X Y and Z all have this same ordinance" why be like other towns at all???
Shame on that sinful town and it's corrupt people. He was a Patriot who they pushed too far. They are lucky that is all he did. They are a shamed and cursed town.
He should have flattened everything to bad he didn't add flame thrower to kill dozer. That town council should be prosecuted for what they did. They obviously conspired against him. All he did was buy a property at auction and tried to run a business. They paved the way for the concrete company and attacked him. To bad he left anything of that town.
There needs to be a statue of Marvin Heemeyer,. He showed that no matter how big the people are that push you down, you can always push them back twice as hard.

He was a patriot. Often, these small town overlords start believing they're kings, and basically feel empowered to dictate orders for whatever they choose. I've seen plenty of it over the years, but one thing always rings true: They type of people that run for town board (and related) positions are never normal people. They are narcissists, psychopaths, and/or control freaks. This man would have never snapped if they hadn't imposed an 80k "fine" on him, which was obviously directed by the concrete company through various channels. Sometimes, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do...
Excellent recreation of the events of June 4, 2004! There's something authentic about standing in (and walking through) the places where history happened, observing it from the exact same positions as the people who were in the heat of the moment. Definitely a walk that I'd like to take on the 20th anniversary next year.
Know what? I understand the man's frustration. This would've probably pushed me over the edge too. City decides to ruin your life. They held all the cards. @@entertainme7523 No, if you listen to the actual police radio traffic they mention what targets he's specifically going after. Just about everyone in the town like and respected him, but yet the people involved in the local politics are "coincidentally" the only ones who didn't have good things to say. He had a girlfriend who had said nothing but nice things about him, never mentioning even once any kind of abuse / violence. He was angry over them singling him out because he refused to play ball for one of the "popular" business owners that wanted to start a concrete batch plant, and years prior had flipped out and confronted Marv over his successful bid on a patch of land (that he later built his muffler shop on). The town leadership had approved the concrete plant, despite the objections of Marv and the majority of the townspeople, and in doing so it cut off access to Marv's business / severed his tie to the sewer / water system, to which Marv was then subsequently fined over $100 a day until he could reconnect (which the concrete plant owner wouldn't allow him to run through his property, because of said dispute). They literally made it impossible for him to run his business, meanwhile the town kept charging him more and more fines. He tried to go through legal means to get relief from this discrimination, and the judge tossed the case. The "elites" in the town had always had a problem with him since he was one of the newest members of the community, and yet was able to start a successful business on a good piece of land that previously none of them had any interest in...with the exception of the concrete plant owner (who lost at auction to Marv for it).

I used to live in Granby and moved out of Grand County about 3 months before this happened. I had actually set foot in Marvin’s muffler shop when someone referred me to him about a year and a half prior to his rampage.
Sometimes even a docile man simply just gets fed up. Presumably, the cement company who wanted his property had sewer service yet the city wanted $80,000 for a sewer hook-up to his property. He was obviously under coersive tactics by city and others.

When he first moved to that town he lobbied to get gambling legalised there. When he was questioned by a reporter who was against the idea he threatened violence against him. He was clearly a loose nut.
