There is no doubt that the ratings will keep tanking if they keep up with the FXX formula of "Rerun this, Rerun that, and maybe sprinkle in a few movies, too."
The Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Discovery Kids/Family/Hub that we knew as kids are dead now. And the streaming services replacing them aren’t any better. No amount of reboots, revivals, sequels, spinoffs, regardless of quality, is gonna change that. The best we can do now is appreciate what these platforms have or they’re respectful enough to let live or at least stay on the platform.
It's shameful that future CN is focusing on reboots & remakes of the 2010s instead of new original projects. Shows like Invincible Fight Girl Iyanu and Elliot From Earth prove that there are creatives that can produce great stuff when given the chance Lets hope that hope CN captializes on the great potential of Invincle Fight Girl & Iyanu
I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. Your videos are very good. I hate to say it, but I was kinda excited when Discovery first took over. I thought it would be good that a company that made its money in cable would be calling the shots. I should’ve remembered that Discovery specializes in cheap unscripted content. They were never going to properly support an animation channel. The moment they kicked the Superman series over to Adult Swim, I knew it was over. Clearly, that’s the part of the channel that still has a future.
Benzie, Cartoon Network is basically dead at this point, and I think that it's just dead air space. At least Adult Swim never has to reboot anything. Actually, I think that it's time for Adult Swim to replace Cartoon Network and become a 24/7 network. You can say that it would be hard for Adult Swim to grow as a network, but let's face it. Anything is possible now.
CN is still getting better ratings than Disney and is still making money for WBD, which is the only thing they want at this point. Adult Swim would be better off replacing Discovery Family Channel.
So far, the only good family appropriate shows I know of that are getting another season are Percy Jackson and The Olympians which some of the book fans don’t like and I never read the books, so what I do I know? Or My Adventures With Superman. I don’t care if it’s on Adult Swim; it’s every bit as family friendly as the DCAU and looking at the company that owns the show, it’s probably stuck there to avoid getting tax write-offed. And even then, they're still based on popular IPs. I guess Big City Greens and Bluey are still here, too.
Honestly, being a CN fan in this decade is sad. Their shows got reaped from Max, their studio and website both went the way of the dodo, and from the looks of their upcoming show lineup, it seems like they're going the way of Hanna-Barbera. Old IPs are milked into franchises whether the creators like it or not as originality fades from existence. So much for wanting a job there as a kid.. guess I'll have to stick to indie animation to let my dreams come true. Thanks for nothing, Discovery..
I haven't watched Cartoon Network in months, ever since I moved to a department and the fact that cable TV is expensive. Its audience has grown up and is moving to more mature shows, specifically on Adult Swim. CN may not have a future at this point.
Impressive video, Benzie Johnson. Looking forward to your next upload. I clicked the thumbs up icon on your content. Keep up the amazing work! Given the current trend of reboots and derivative projects, how do you think Cartoon Network can successfully attract new audiences while maintaining the legacy of their original shows?
Cartoon Network would go downhill after the 2007 Boston Bomb Scare and never really recovered. The fact the 2008 Writers Strike happened a year and a half later did not help matters.
Not quite. 1) CN should have always played a mix of older shows and newer shows. I was brought up on Tom and Jerry and that is from the 40s-60s. Tom and Jerry is still very popular. I grew up with Full House on Nick at Night and that show is beloved by Gen Z. 2) I think CN loves to take for ever to release things these days. I'm sure they have their reasons. 3) Gumball was long over due for a season 7 to wrap up the story. 4) Checkered Past Reportably had 102% Increase in ratings at the beginning.
@@icecreamhero2375 By "resting on your laurels" I am referring more to rehashing existing series into spin-offs and reboots. I'm not talking about re-airing existing series.
@@BrendNeEkran I think they should have a healthy mix of reboots and originals. Also lots of old stuff is good. Spinoffs and reboots make money dispute people complaining about them. They should also air discontinued shows. Its new to the kids. There are some younger people who aren't familiar with the classics and they are missing out. I was born in 98. I got into Powerpuff Girls and Dexter by watching them on Netflix when I was 12. CN rearing reruns can do that for someone else.If they hardly have any new content because of Waner Discovery's budget cuts they may as well air the old stuff. At least there is variety.
Other than the lack of new shows I am happy with the current line up. I am happy they play a mix of older shows and newer shows. I wanted this for many years. I hope kids were introduced to some of the classics. I still watch it all the time. I am ecstatic that Gumball is finally getting a season 7. One of their most popular shows should not end on a clifhanger. Uincon Warriors Eternal, My Adventures With Superman and Fight Girl are very cute. I am really loving Checkered Past. Dexter's Lab is one of my all time favorites, I LIKE Ed Edd n Eddy, Billy and Mandy and Courage too. They really should play more shows though. Where's Kids Next Door, Where's Chowder, etc. I really love Toonami Rewind. I finished OG Sailor Moon on Hulu and it has been very cool to watch the epsidoes on live TV. I never got to do that before.
Cartoons are watched by regular adults, too. Heck, some PG or Y7 cartoons cater to an older demographic by referencing or doing things that aren't typical of a basic cartoon. Infinity Train and Code Lyoko had DEATH as part of the story... OK KO! and Mission Force One had 2001-14 TNT levels of drama for their finales with near-death moments, peril, and violence. Jimmy Two-shoes and The Replacements had plenty of "out of context" moments.... And of course... NOSTALGIA or INTEREST. I fall with the latter, especially with my favorite that my fellow Americans have never heard of... DN Ace, from the GOATed cartoon country of Canada, via Nelvana. You, sir, should give today's cartoons a chance or go back to your reality TV BS. Greets from the Philadelphia TV market.

Cartoon Network peaked during the original season of Total Drama Island

Honestly just for the hilarity of it all I hope Side Quests and Lost Tapes get the Adult Swim boot.

@jkdjjj Well, here's the thing. WBD wants to get away from children's programming. So, who knows what will happen to Cartoon Network in 2025?
@KungEMuller They're not getting away from childrens programming given they are still investing money into CN and CN International.
@jkdjjj Well, the company also owns Max, and it doesn't have a children's show left.
@KungEMuller sorry for the late reply but there are still plenty of kids shows on Max.

Gee, it's almost like resting on your laurels instead of learning from your success and failures kills your network /j

I'll make a new show! Sometime in the future though
Its kinda hard to hear what you are saying.
So it's mostly on "Auto Pilot"?
I hate Zaslav
Who cares about a bunch of kids shows
