Awesome video. Just liked the vid. I must say it is quite a nice car. I'm a big fan of family sports sedans like the Ford Falcon XR6/XR8 and Kia Stinger GT, so the Hyundai Sonata N Line fits nicely in this market, although it appears that many think otherwise. :) Although I respectfully understand why some may disagree, sorry but not sorry, #FamilySedansoverSUVsanyday. :)
And the Stinger is not that practical. I have some windows I carry around everyday and I have to lay the seats down in the Stinger to fit my window in long ways. In the GLI and the N-Line both I can put my windows in long ways.
The Transmission in this car is better than any CVT transmission!! There is NO issue with an open diff compared to other transmissions!!! People complaining are NOT QUALIFIED MECHANICS and they don,t know any better!! This care has ONE of the BEST transmissions out there!!
Have had this for a month now and absolutely loving it! Thanks for posting a positive review, most Aussie reviews on TH-cam weren’t so enthusiastic. It’s so fun to drive 😀
It's an AMAZING car!! I traded in my 2017 Honda Accord Sport for this car! It out weights the performance, the Tech, and Design! Hyundai gets a bad rap. They are always improving with cutting edge design. This is my second Hyundai and I absolutely love my Sonata Nline!!
I also traded my "18" Accord Sport 2.0 and the car is significantly more capable than the Accord 2.0. Not to mention higher quality in every aspect with more options for the same price. I will be sticking with Hyundai moving forward and will not be going back to Honda. They are overpriced dull cars and SUV's in my opinion. In addition, reliability is certainly not what it used to be. My last Accords had transmission issues. My "18" Sport 2.0 had to have the transmission replaced six months into buying it brand new. That, couple with a host of other quality issues lead me away from Honda likely for good.
@@yo_liam4836 Mine came with summer tires which caused me an issue during the first snow storm. I bought a set of all season Michelin Extreme Contact and they were significantly better. We had a good amount of snow this year and even driving down the highway during heavy snow I was actually passing SUV's. I passed a new Rav4 Adventure and a Grand Cherokee who were probably driving at the appropriate speed but I wanted to test the tires and they passed the test at 3am during a major noreaster storm. Take that comment with a grain of salt because I am a bit crazy but long story short, it can do the job. Put a proper set of snow tires on and it will be even better. Now that said, at the end of the day it is never gonna be a Jeep or Hummer so you just have to recognize it's limitations. If your driving through heavy snow you have to keep the car on the move if possible.
You will have to get winter tires for snow. It has a good grip. But if you aren't careful you do spin the tires. But that's without snow Not sure how it handles in the snow.
Got mine a week ago. Best car I've ever (ever) owned... and I've had all 3 of the expensive German brands, a Jag, Saab... Salute Hyundai for being so bold on their N-design direction and superb build quality that frankly puts everyone else to shame.
Adore your review, great fun! Saw it in the flesh in white and it took my breath away! I wish SUVs stopped being so popular so I could see more of these on the roads!
Excellent review as always. The phone holder is a brilliant idea. Kia /Hyundai and Genesis are making great cars and have so much standard equipment compared to other manufacturers. Looking forward to your next review. It would be great if you did a side by side comparison between the Stinger GT and the G70.
What about the transmission issues the N line has ? Do your research before purchasing . 3 to 5 months to replace the transmission . Most of them will fail. Just google it
That was certainly a wonderfully dynamic and superb review, Mr. Brand! I've been curious to know how this car has been received in other countries, outside of the US? The first thing I noticed is that Australian editions come with far more options than we get in America. However, I see 55,000 AUD equates to ~ $40,000 in US exchange. Here, these vehicles are selling for $35K, if you can find one on a dealer's lot. I've had the Sonata N Line for two months and I find its feature to price point to be incredible; to include a 5-year warranty. Between comfort, performance and technology, I, personally, believe it to be the best value in the midsize sedan market.
Car price in AU is impacted by lots of taxes, import duty etc. Plus, supply chain issue due to Covid have hit new car at dealer lot, so the manufacturers have jacked up price as well. This thing at 40k-45k AUD is great, but at 55k? Meh.
From America, I'm pretty jealous because your N line is basically a Limited + N line. In the states we lose some features from the limited in our n line but then again ours only cost $33K

When these first came out I really wanted one, I was torn between this and the k5. I went to go order a K5, I specifically wanted the blue with the chestnut brown interior. My pre-order was paused indefinitely because the 2.5 turbo was going to all the SUVs. I considered getting the Sonata because I did want the digital cluster which the k5 did not get in the us, but they were hard to find. Absolute bargain however, and I regret not doing it. I get the catfish reference but I still like the looks even to this day. My priorities have changed so I would probably get a Sonata Hybrid at this point, of which the new body style is fantastic as well
Why does the Aussie version have all the good options when the US version does not, like memory seats, blind spot monitors, heads up display, etc? Those come on the US Limited, but not the N-Line.
Nice review as always, have had mine 8 weeks now. Haven’t met a person that doesn’t like it after seeing it, averaging 8.8L/100. As a daily driver a LSD, adjustable dampers would be nice but can’t say I’d notice the difference, happy to save the 10k it would cost as well. Kids, colleagues / clients love sitting in the back and the tech is better than anything this side of a G80 luxury pack. Will probably be the last Sonata Australia gets (like the Stinger). Much better than I expected it to be.
@@TeeWadeG just the best value. Had Force 6, 8 years ago that was a fair bit faster just not as nice to drive. Before that a (fair bit before) a 545i about as quick, very nice to drive but almost made me go broke keeping it on the road, held on to it way too long. I’m probably showing my age, but had a 5.0L VL wagon back in the day as well (before they became cool) got it from dad in 1991.
@@semyon74 😂 your a good sport Deneberg. The LSD and Dampers comment is what did it. @@TeeWadeG ok fair enough, haven’t had a car with active damper before (so I don’t know what I’m missing) and when test driving the Octavia RS before settling on this, didn’t seem to notice the changes enough to value them (normal test drive not a special stage on a rally course). 95% of the time I’m either on the freeway or stuck in traffic. For that job the car exceeds my exceptions. I will never ever track it, maybe traffic light drag it against some P player and a monthly blast through a nice mountain road after lockdown. But that’s about it.
@@semyon74 yea I figured dampers and LSDs were more something you were familiar with. Dampers are pretty much a requirement for me. Not all cars have the same results with dampers. You have to remember m active dampers or adjustable suspension will improve your handling without making ride quality worse. For example: I drove the new Stinger quite a bit because it came with this new 2.5T. My time in the stinger made my experience with the N-Line bitter sweet. While the engine and transmission pairing in the N-Line fits so good that it made the Stinger obsolete in my opinion. But, the N-Line could sure use some Dampers because it’s ride was noticeably worse than the Stingers. Biggest complaint was the N-Line was extremely bouncy on uneven pavement. The plus side would be It’s not harsh when bouncing.
The people hating on it would get walked all over with just a basic tune your looking at 300-350 maybe 400 with a few other bolt ons. I have seen a Sonata race a Porsche and keep up with it.
It badly needs as a bare minimum a LSD.Surely it would not cost Hyundai a hell of a lot to fit the LSD.Looks wise,I love both the exterior and interior. And I am sure our boys in blue will be licking their lips when they upgrade their older Sonatas to this one.
I want one of these real bad!! What interior are you showing at the 5 minute mark? There's a passenger grab handle on the side of the console that is there at any other point in the review.
Well, personally I think those so called "critics" don't know beauty when they see it, because I think the 2020 & 2021 Sonatas are the nicest looking cars in its class and I don't know anyone who thinks otherwise.
so true. one of a very few designs that is completely fluid and a complete thought! take a look at its predecessor concept car! i hope the redesign goes more in that direction. that is headed towards supercar aesthetics.
The most fun car I've ever owned was the 2018 Elantra Sport manual sedan I bought for my sixteen year old son That car made me a believer in Hyundai, and if I could actually find an Elantra N I'd buy it, sight unseen They're that good
Oh cool, Hyundai added an insulin pump storage container, that was considerate. Now if they could only integrate wireless CPAP charging, their stock will 🚀 🌝...
I have a '23. If you behave (I mostly let the adaptive cruise pilot) I get 31-33MPG on my back road commute to work. Have gotten as high as 35 on the Interstate when the road was open and I could just cruise steady. Goes down quick when you give it the beans.... :D But even then my lowest tank was about 26.
Hows it holding up? I have a 2007 mustant gt which gets around 15mpg id say looking for a similar performance car with better mpg which honestly anything is better at that mpg lol
Hey Matt, love your totally honest carefree reviews mate! You just say it as it is as a normal person checking a car out. Really loved this comment, "it is so much more fun than a Toyota Camry! Which, like, honestly that car sucks the life out of me!". Jeez I hate Camry's. I'm looking at getting a 'facelift' 2021 Hyundai i30N soon so can't wait! Cheers!
It's an interesting car. Doubt that it will sell very well as you say it's a dying breed. Really should appeal to Camry drivers, however I don't see them forking out more than $35k for the base model.
@@CarSauce agree there's some really weird options. I actually think it would do better as a fully N-spec in the Australian market. As N-line it's a bit of feet in 2 camps and maybe doesn't do either of them well. I think if they took some of the options out and priced it starting under $50k it might surprise some people (especially if you're comparing to other options in the segment like an Octavia RS).
This car kinda confuses me for its relevance. The i30N Sedan is about the same size, around the same power and around the same cost and the same fit out...
The scratchy plastic below the mirrors in the i30N sedan is soft/rubbery in the sonata, doesn't have that plastic strut dividing the driver and passenger which I've seen on 1 review already splitting, and a bit more tech.
I’m torn on this.. need to update wife’s car… it’s between the i30n sedan and this Sonata.. I like the Sonata cause the bigger boot and bigger inside. It’s a bloody tuff choice
similar position here. I drove both. the boy racer inside wants the i30n sedan but the adult says the Sonata n-line... I went the Sonata and pick it up next week. I will sorley miss the corner speed and front grip the i30n offered and of course the crazy level of customization in terms of suspension, steering and spicy exhaust sounds but overall I wasnt prepared to trade off the added comfort and luxury the Sonata offers... the seats, audio system, heads up display, extra cabin room, built in sun-shades, huge boot, and extra torque all on a balance led me to choose the Sonata.. If they offered a Sonata N with the LSD and adaptive shocks from the i30n I would absolutely have found the extra cash. With some finesse of the throttle the Sonata N-line is fast but you cant just push the throttle to the floor like you can in the i30n, tire smoke on launch and out of corner exits is pretty fun though.
It’s such a shame that todays car market devalue sedans/station wagons. If they made a wagon sonata I’d buy it in a heart beat, as it stands only Skoda Octavia/superb make an aesthetic wagon that drives like a sporty sedan and has the practicality of an SUV. Would be nice to have more options from the Asian market with better/cheaper parts 😂
Nice review Matt, nice looking car and it’s a great competitor for other front-wheel drives in the same size and price range. The only concern here is the fact that it is a new engine line up from Hyundai so only time will tell about the reliability.
@@scoobeydoooo it's actually not. The stinger 4 cyl is a 2l engine, same as vaguely can be found in the i30n. This 2.5l is a new engine shared with the new stinger facelift in America and the Kia k5, that's it!
I like that Hyundai are keeping the sedan alive because SUV's bore the hell out of me. The i30 NLine sedan looks pretty decent as well. Not as much a fan of the Sonata design though. Prefer the Skoda Octavia and Superb as they'll age better and both are more practical as a liftback. The interior of the Skodas also easily trumps Hyundai IMHO.
You might check the Stinger. You get the same engine but with a standard 8-speed and in the Stinger it makes 300HP instead of 290HP as in the N-Line/K5 And ‘22 Stinger 2.5T gets same gas mileage as ‘18-‘21 Stinger 2.0T
Who said everyone hates it? Hate would imply that people actually gave a shit about it. For me, it looks like it was styled by a 12 year old for a match box car collection. Meanwhile most if not all high powered fwd cars have issues getting the power to the ground; particularly in the wet from a standing start. I'm not saying they can't be fun but there are limitations. For a lot of drivers this will not be an issue because they only every pussy foot around anyway, and will rarely give it the full beans.
No knobhead, most people drive an everyday car safely on roads, not because they drive better than you do. Should they like racing, they drive a racing car in a racing track.
Yeah…most high powered RWD cars also have problems getting their power to the ground, ESPECIALLY in wet conditions where the problems tend to result in poor drivers ending up in the bushes much more so than FWD cars. For high power in the wet, you need a decent AWD system, but then you compromise on other aspects of the feel and dynamics. It’s not once size fits all, different people require (and accept) different things.
@@sjb2471 Agree, RWD have similar issues although weight transfer helps a bit compared to FWD. For on road use the AWD systems are a good compromise, many cars with performance aspirations or higher power outputs have gone this route. If the sonata N-line had AWD it would be a great/better package and may even entice me to look past the styling, which personally I don't admire but appreciate others seem to like it.
The specs and looks of this car is really nice but at the end of the day it's still a Hyundai. Only time will tell if it will last so I might wait a bit til I get one.
I have a 2022 nline its not so premium its missing features that americans get. Downfall of this vehicle its 2023 almost 2024 and no supporting mods yet to crank the 2.5ltr up it is better then the i30 and almost gets the stinger the engine they built for alhas oil squirters for the pistons and everything it is ready for power. Needs an lsd or should of been rwd or awd like the genisis
Why would $45000 be cheap? "Cheap" is a relative term. I think people use the term "cheap" here because they are comparing what you get included in this car to what you get in other brands in the same price bracket. For instance, the tech and feature list in the Australian Sonata N-line is every bit as full as that of a Kia Singer GT, but the price difference is over $10,000 in Sonata's favour. This is where people may declare the Sonata's price as cheap.
I've always owned Japanese cars until I saw the Sonata. It has lots of eye candy, bells and whistles and was debating between a Sonata or Accord. Yes Sonata offers more things than Accord but at the end of the day still a Korean car. Cheap plastics and materials on Hyundai won't last long. Plus a turbo on a 4 cyl just asking for disaster.
You can always wait, for a year, and buy it for 1/2 price......Seriously if you trade an Accord or Camry for one of these, you will realize In a short time you made a serious mistake.....

@@semyon74 yea I figured dampers and LSDs were more something you were familiar with.
Dampers are pretty much a requirement for me. Not all cars have the same results with dampers.
You have to remember m active dampers or adjustable suspension will improve your handling without making ride quality worse.
For example:
I drove the new Stinger quite a bit because it came with this new 2.5T.
What kind of tunes? Got any idea?
The sunshade might be used if you’re driving opposite direction of the sun so it doesn’t blind you in the rear mirror
The new Sonata is so underrated.
It badly needs as a bare minimum a LSD.Surely it would not cost Hyundai a hell
of a lot to fit the LSD.Looks wise,I love both the exterior and interior.
And I am sure our boys in blue will be licking their lips when they upgrade their
older Sonatas to this one.
Honestly it doesn't need the LSD. Would be nice 100%, but it feels like a hot hatch without regardless
There’s something off about the proportions. I can’t pick what exactly but the wheel arches look weird with the rear door. Ugh it’s just….nope.
Which n-line you like the most? this or i30 hatch or other n-line?
Ooh great question! If it were my money and just me and my partner to worry about, then the i30... If I had a family, sedan all the way
@@CarSauce the two are about the same price so the Sonata seems better value.
It also has more safety features like adaptive cruise.
Someone doesn't understand the difference between an N and a N-line...
What a great fun review!
I have ordered mine it should be here in 6 weeks 😍😍 can’t wait
The most fun car I've ever owned was the 2018 Elantra Sport manual sedan I bought for my sixteen year old son
That car made me a believer in Hyundai, and if I could actually find an Elantra N I'd buy it, sight unseen
They're that good
Oh cool, Hyundai added an insulin pump storage container, that was considerate.
Hey Matt, interested in the howto to get the wireless Apple CarPlay. Let me know
Hey Matt, love your totally honest carefree reviews mate!
Cheers!
Thank you!
Does this 2.5 litre motor come in any other Hyundai models? Thanks 😀
It's an interesting car. Doubt that it will sell very well as you say it's a dying breed. Really should appeal to Camry drivers, however I don't see them forking out more than $35k for the base model.
Honestly this is the last thing I reckon that will appeal to Camry buyers :P
@@CarSauce agree there's some really weird options. I actually think it would do better as a fully N-spec in the Australian market. As N-line it's a bit of feet in 2 camps and maybe doesn't do either of them well. I think if they took some of the options out and priced it starting under $50k it might surprise some people (especially if you're comparing to other options in the segment like an Octavia RS).
i30N DCT review please!!
I don’t hate it - my wife just won’t let me pay that much for it haha
Hey mate just watched the 2002 supercharged Calai video 👍 glad I found the channel 🤙🤙
I got a 23 N-line about a month ago, it is an unbelivable car. Hyundai shower tf out with this one
@@cheddle88 cheers for the advice… I like the sonata as we do more long distance driving and want comfort over corner speed.
Great energy
I am still leaning towards it as its the only thing that compares to my 3.3 V6
Would have to be the best value for money sports saloon in the world .Seems to hear bit thirsty at 13.8L 100 or was just a result of too much sauce
Its the same engine used on the stinger 4 cylinder. So its been proven for a few years now.
@@scoobeydoooo it's actually not. The stinger 4 cyl is a 2l engine, same as vaguely can be found in the i30n. This 2.5l is a new engine shared with the new stinger facelift in America and the Kia k5, that's it!
Right you are. Thanks for correcting me 👍
It’s so weird seeing the drivers side on the right side of a car lol
I like that Hyundai are keeping the sedan alive because SUV's bore the hell out of me. The i30 NLine sedan looks pretty decent as well. Not as much a fan of the Sonata design though. Prefer the Skoda Octavia and Superb as they'll age better and both are more practical as a liftback. The interior of the Skodas also easily trumps Hyundai IMHO.
Skoda LOL. Performance isn't near this
What do people mean when they say “real N line”?
KIA GT line (Appearance pkg)
KIA GT = Hyundai N Line (Performance pkg)
Hyundai N (Trackable Performance pkg)
I pick red nline up tomorrow.
Idk..I think this car is pretty dope.
I love mine 🤷🏾, I just feel like old Hyundai still has a bad rap that doesn’t allow new Hyundai to live lol
would buy it if it's RWD, leave the AWD and FWD to SUV markets
RWD, this thing would be monster
Probably a bit conservative from Hyundai. AWD and FWD are certainly safer options for everyday cars owned by non-professional drivers.
You might check the Stinger. You get the same engine but with a standard 8-speed and in the Stinger it makes 300HP instead of 290HP as in the N-Line/K5
And ‘22 Stinger 2.5T gets same gas mileage as ‘18-‘21 Stinger 2.0T
The sonata didn't get the Aussie tune
56k plus on road? Wow!
Is it safe?Since it has not been tested by ancap
I love like new car 2021 Hyundai Sonata n-line sedan auto I love like car 👍👍👍👍
People overlook this and look to the i30 sedan.
All ice car's are a dying breed.
@@lfsantosl Hey Loopy, why don't you take your strawman and go play with yourself.
I surely love this car
I have this car Mr Matt...... plenty of shooga booga mate I’ll tell you that
I think I prefer the stinger even the four cylinder model
This has more interior room.
I just love the look of the stinger , one of the best looking cars in a long time for me .
Me too. However, Stinger (even the 2.0T) is at least $10,000 more in Australia for similar trim and tech.
If the very same car had a German badge you’d hear nothing but raves and customers would be lining up to hand over their money.
The specs and looks of this car is really nice but at the end of the day it's still a Hyundai. Only time will tell if it will last so I might wait a bit til I get one.
Bruh they last my last car was a sonata & I drove it till 200,000 miles & it was still going strong
Getting the kia k5. Looks way better
Not available in Australia.
I love mine! Js
Wheels look amazing cleaning is the worst part 4 sure
Its the interior...the steering wheel ruins the entire interior
To me, it just looks (old school) - much to looooong.
Not looking for a stubby vehicle, but this just looks to long and sharp on the ends.
Matt - hyundai hit me up for wireless autoplay
Hyundai be like - Get this guy a car😂
I have a 2022 nline its not so premium its missing features that americans get. Downfall of this vehicle its 2023 almost 2024 and no supporting mods yet to crank the 2.5ltr up it is better then the i30 and almost gets the stinger the engine they built for alhas oil squirters for the pistons and everything it is ready for power. Needs an lsd or should of been rwd or awd like the genisis
It's so cheap? No ..... 45k would be cheap.
Plus a turbo on a 4 cyl just asking for disaster.
well I dont hate it.
N line this car is a mess they didn't really give the proper n line treatment
I love the thing
Because it's not a accord
nline but quicker than a n car....go figure
No it's not quicker than a N car LOL
How much were you paid to give this piece of crap a good review? hahahaha
Man is saying “hieundai” instead of “Hyundai”
You can always wait, for a year, and buy it for 1/2 price......Seriously if you trade an Accord or Camry for one of these, you will realize In a short time you made a serious mistake.....
Found the Honda owner. This car is amazing.
It's more expensive now than a year ago.. lol
Style over substance.
how so?
