@TexasVexes Yeah I turn 60 in Feb.. I have 2 2005 Corollas... 1 has only 92K miles... I live where nothing rusts... I want to live long but want my cars to be my last ones...
Scotty, one thing that has saved me tons of money is the four cars I’ve bought for my family are all the same model, just from different but closely related model/year. When I run into a problem with my car or mess something up during installation, I simply check one of the other cars. Sometimes, I even swap parts between the cars to troubleshoot and eliminate possibilities, whether the issue is electrical, electronic, or related to values read by the computer.
I have a portable pressure washer, uses water from 5 gallon buckets I fill up in the bathtub. Since I live in an apartment complex they turn the water off at the start of the first freeze.
Next car you buy, try to make a point to undercoat it once a year if you can and prioritize washing the salt off maybe once every week or couple weeks if possible. That will all help tremendously.
My 23 years old Corolla in excellent shape, I put a new brake replaced fluids and belt tension adjustment 5 years ago. I might give it to my sister in May next year since she is retired anf had no needs for car.
Yes they are, I have a 2003 RAV4 and it’s got 215k miles and runs/drives just fine. I keep up with the maintenance religiously and it is one of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned
Not sure how many new Toyota models but I was told recently by a Toyota salesman at a social event that you can't buy Corollas anymore with a regular 1.8L engine... They are all made Hybrid now... He was touting Hondas though because they are still making their cars with regular engines and Hybrid of course being an option...
That 2014 RAV4 looks showroom new and white is one of my favorite colors. I don't like black cars, my Focus is black and it shows more dirt etc and gets hotter in the summer and it's harder to see
This is the only thing that plagues the 1st generation rav4 (1995(6) to 2000). i guess they needed something to even them out from being absolutely perfect. Best frontal visibility (probably ever will be too, since cars are just getting worse), decent MPG and light weight for a 4wd (the fwd ones still get 35MPG!). and sharp handling (rear suspension somewhat resembles a double wishbone with a trailing arm. first of its kind to combine this weird sporty and off road simultaneous design intent i'd say but it's a great combo. but.. my goodness they RUST!
If they want to insist on putting turbo 4s in big vehicles. They should make it a turbo diesel instead. It would be closer to a v6 in power, torque, and reliability. Especially if it is a hybrid diesel. My 2013 tdi golf got 58mpg averaging 72mph on highway trips. It got 43mpg averaging around 30mph driving around town. Imagine if prius came as a diesel hybrid. They'd probably get over 70mpg around town. If you live in a flat area, it would get over 80mpg. Damn dieselgate ruining the perfect car
I've posted it before and I guess I'll post it again but those Ford Crown Vics can last a really long time. Ford didn't play around when they designed and built those.
I live in Central Valley California. I looked for a couple of months for a decent 4Runner or Highlander at a reasonable price, but everyone think they’ve got gold and these are expensive. I ended up buying a 2025 Toyota Camry SE for work travel. Excellent on gas only takes $38 dollars to fill it up with Costco 91 octane.
Thinking about buying a 2015 RAV4 with 101,000 miles. It is a Limited with leather and navigation, blind spot monitoring. They are asking $16,500 for it. Car Gurus says it's a fair deal. Maybe I can get them to come off the price a little.
I used to live and work there for 15 years until I was terminated from my hi pay job in 1995. I used to travel 75 miles a day one way with no exception of sick and bad weather since my boss have zero tolerate on lateness and you can sick! I went thru 3 cars and one four wheel drive.
2007 Toyota Camry 233,000 miles, replaced radiator, water pump and Catalytic converter, does consume some oil due to piston change by toyota but considering not bad still runs great. Hope 2024 rav that was bought will get similar results
Yes, Scotty is right about maintaining the car with the right intervals. Keep is maintained and you will enjoy it for a long time. Specially with a manual transmission,
i really regret selling my rav4 but was in a situation where i needed to come up with alot of money fast and my rav4 was the only thing i had of that value…i have a kia sportage now and what a POS it is so far..never again, if i ever need to buy another suv, toyotas or nothing
IDK though, my neighbor has a '07 4Runner and the frame is apparently so rusted out that it's unsafe to drive. Mechanically it's fine. He bought a new '24 before the big update. He's still got the old one sitting outside waiting for Toyota to supposedly do something about it. It's perfect from the outside without rust, but it's rotting away underneath according to him. It must not have the Japanese coated frame.
This might be a dumb question but when I was a kid four-wheel drive vehicles were not meant to be driven in four-wheel drive all the time modern four-wheel drive is still the same way you just get the ability to drive it in four-wheel low or four-wheel high and you select high and the max speed is like 45-50 mph then it just decouples and now it's just a two-wheel drive vehicle, where is all-wheel drive cars are always all-wheel drive No matter the speed, is this still correct or do modern four-wheel high vehicles allow you to drive in four-wheel /all wheel all the time?
I have a 2011 4 runner 250,000 miles and just getting broke in. I bought a 2012 TT (thought the be the year with less issues) and would love a video covering it…just to see your opinion Scotty.
I never maintained 3 Corollas I’ve owned decades ago. One someone totaled, one was stolen and one I sold. Never changed oil, coolant, filters and when I sold the one there was no oil or coolant in it! It kept running.
My 2016 Camry SE was made in Kentucky strong reliable car. Yes I’ve replaced the water pump tensioner pulley serpentine belt a new battery going to be replacing the alternator here soon unfortunately I think it’s on its way out the door. The car has 92,000 miles on it And it’s almost 9 years old. I think the car sat for a little while. Obviously I looked underneath and I see the swaybar link need to be replaced in the lower ball joints it just with age wear and tear not a big deal. I’ve had the transmission fluid changed Planning on doing it again but this time putting a new transmission filter in as well.
I agree with Scotty 100% that most people don’t want 4 cylinders there dogs for such a heavy vehicle. But Scotty forgets now days it’s not up the manufacturer anymore the state / government forces the manufacturers hand to produce something that gets better not or they can’t sell that car in the USA!
I would replace the water pump n timing belt.. at 100k.. if the water pump is leaking. Then its time... if its not leaking. I wouldnt.. (sooner is better then later)...
Thanks for the 4Runner info! I have a 2020 model and love it. And, as far as the 6th Gen 4 cyl turbo goes, I've decided to hold out for the 7th Gen, 2 cyl, twin turbo. The gas mileage is gonna be GREAT!
I got one same color but SR5 RWD 155,678 miles on it and runs like new. The only thing it start doing is that when she is cold and i put Drive it takes like 3-5 second to take it but once you use it it stop doing it t's only un the morning
I know it's a toyota, but how does a car that old with so few miles have no dry rot? Toyota made in japan may be superior, but plastic is still plastic, rubber is still rubber
My 24 year old Tahoe (from the hot desert of AZ to the frozen tundra of WI) doesn’t have any plastic or other rot anywhere. Until a couple years ago it was never garaged. I baby it of course. Only has 64k original miles.
My son has a late 90's Land Cruiser, with 200k, from Chicago, we're in SC, he just found out he has a couple holes in the frame, his gas tank has a leak somewhere and the brake lines are all toast. He says he's looking at around 11k in repairs. Is that correct? He wants to either find another landcruiser and swap motors or he's looking at late 90's GMC truck or early 2000's Ford F150. What do you think is the best bet??
Wish Toyota would keep their vehicles the same forever. They choose to follow people's desires for bling over reliability and quality. Forget turbo's, hybrids, and EV's I'll only buy old used Toyota vehicles. 😊
There is one car no one talk about it , because it is bored, old Toyota prius never seen any prius towed, stays in car shops for big issues, pull over because of technical issues, never
My 2013 Acura RDX with a six cylinder has 198,000 miles and runs fine. Anyone with one of these? I work at home now so I'm not driving much so it may go a long time.
I have a rare, original, classic Honda car that I want to sell. It is in good condition. If you are interested or know a fan who wants to buy it, I am ready. There are none of them on the market currently on the Internet, and this version is considered the best during that generation and it is from the first generation of Honda cars.

But Scotty forgets now days it’s not up the manufacturer anymore the state / government forces the manufacturers hand to produce something that gets better not or they can’t sell that car in the USA!
thanks scotty
I can guarantee that there are no vehicles that will last forever with no maintenance.
Got almost 400,000 on my 05 g caravan that you hate , only changed cooling fan ,brakes tires oil
When should i replace the water pump on a tacoma with 2.7 liter 4 cylinder and 140k miles on it
I would replace the water pump n timing belt.. at 100k.. if the water pump is leaking. Then its time... if its not leaking. I wouldnt.. (sooner is better then later)...
I am surprised the paint on the 2014 RAV4 isnt peeling. A whole lot of them did.
4Runner is awesome. Bad its not available in New Zealand.
Thanks for the 4Runner info! I have a 2020 model and love it. And, as far as the 6th Gen 4 cyl turbo goes, I've decided to hold out for the 7th Gen, 2 cyl, twin turbo. The gas mileage is gonna be GREAT!
My 07 Toyota tundra 235k &
18 rav4 105k "0 issues"
In a previous video about the Toyota Rav4, these are the years he stated we shouldn't buy. The years are (2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008)
Hi scotty
That scanner that you have, what’s the cost for a okay checker?
I have a Harbor Freight close by and I would like to get a scan/checker.
i bought a 6th gen camry v6. it gets the sticky dash in the summer.

Planned obsolescence is the answer to your question

Just changed oil in my 2008 Toyota Sienna…. 325k miles .
I know it's a toyota, but how does a car that old with so few miles have no dry rot? Toyota made in japan may be superior, but plastic is still plastic, rubber is still rubber
Garaged
@cindy
Well , even so
Can only agree with Ryan ........
Some of them yeah i have a Japanese made yaris and it's got rust. Not much i can do
My 24 year old Tahoe (from the hot desert of AZ to the frozen tundra of WI) doesn’t have any plastic or other rot anywhere. Until a couple years ago it was never garaged. I baby it of course. Only has 64k original miles.
You forgot the old f250s from the early 2000s they did someright when built those
27:25 💯% true 😅
My son has a late 90's Land Cruiser, with 200k, from Chicago, we're in SC, he just found out he has a couple holes in the frame, his gas tank has a leak somewhere and the brake lines are all toast. He says he's looking at around 11k in repairs. Is that correct? He wants to either find another landcruiser and swap motors or he's looking at late 90's GMC truck or early 2000's Ford F150. What do you think is the best bet??
Hey Scott, do you like Toyotas by any chance?
But I’m interested more with the Matrix nearby ^_^
"No maintenance" LOL
RIP SCOOTY KIMLER I CNT BELEVE IT GOBLESS
Lemme guess, you fell for that post in the Facebook group too? 🤣
Customer: Hey man i didnt like all those comments about my truck
The Toyota hilux, especially the old ones I don’t think I need to explain if you know you know
How could that 4 Runner not have any codes when you can clearly see the TPMS light flashing on the dash while on your test run?
Wish Toyota would keep their vehicles the same forever. They choose to follow people's desires for bling over reliability and quality. Forget turbo's, hybrids, and EV's I'll only buy old used Toyota vehicles. 😊
Aluminum will corrode.
Work related stains? Hope his job isn't pimp

No vehicle will last without yearly servicing and maintenance fact!
Way do the powers that be call them all season tires isn't winter a season???
