    Most Cebuanos value greetings for sure if they know the person greeting them while walking on the streets. Because in our local culture we don't normally greet a stranger in a very crowded place like city streets where almost no one knows one. But in rural areas where there are few people, a greeting from a stranger is recognized and appreciated as a show of being welcoming and also respect. Imagine greeting each person you meet along the way.

      In my country, our teachers expect us to greet them whether we know them or not, but here in the Philippines when you greet teachers on the way, they just walk past you😀

      @@DORCASMorounmubo Really? Maybe it's unique in that university. In all my past schools and university, we always greeted our teachers only once on the first meeting of the day but we don't greet them in succeeding encounters unless it's another time of day, for example, greet only once in the morning and once in the afternoon. No second greeting is expected from someone on the same morning or afternoon. However, we always acknowledge each other either thru saying 'hi' or 'hello' or smile. The schools of my daughter, children as they are, they always greet their teacher even multiple times in each encounter.

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DORCASMorounmubo But yes, it's always the students who should pay respect to their superiors (e.g. teachers, professors, dean, etc.) by greeting them. Yes, we students don't expect them to always give the same greeting in return to students.

      @bmona7550 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the school and city. In Cagayan de Oro almost everyone knows anyone there so greeting teachers is not that uncommon especially if you are in good terms with them.

    Analytical education, Filipino are letirate, teachers in any department are very good teachers and motivated in any aspect, systematic in any legal ideas,the students are respectful because in our culture, we don't need be a racism, we highly respect to others even which country you came from,We are Filipinos, friendly, always smile and helpful person.

    Filipinos, in general, and Cebuanos, in particular, are not racist. But just like anywhere around the world, there are also bad eggs among Filipinos who look down at people with dark skin, whether they're fellow Filipinos or foreigners. Calling people with dark skin as 'Negro/Negra' is actually offensive to the recipient here in the Philippines. They get upset or angry for sure just like anyone else around the world.

    • @DORCASMorounmubo
      @DORCASMorounmubo  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      But some Filipinos still justify the word Negro/Negra.
      I don’t like it and I would not let anyone address me as that, no matter the sugarcoating😀

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DORCASMorounmubo It is offensive for sure to the recipient. But some people have gotten used to it already that even their own family member call them as such. I once had a neighbor who was born to interracial parents (Filipino mum and black-American dad) and she unmistakably looked everything like her Dad, from skin color to kinky hair and height. Since she was young, her mom called her Negra and that time, that word never came to locals as offensive let alone the recipient. The locals didn't even know the word racism or racist yet as we know it today.

    • @Anna-yw8yg
      @Anna-yw8yg ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@DORCASMorounmubo In the Philippines people say the colour black as "negra." Which is the Spanish word for black. They also call white people "puti". Which is the colour white. Negra is a Spanish word for black which has been incorporated in many filipino dialects. I'm not justifying it. I'm just saying that a lot of our words have Spanish in them and it originally wasn't mean to be an offensive word for Filipinos. It's just deeply embedded in our language since we were colonised. Just like if you were to go to South America or Spain they will still use that word for the colour black. I believe that the whole country would have to petition to the government to change the filipino/spanish word for black in all dictionaries etc.
