most filipinos have a degree but i guess what we are lacking is the opportunity, because filipinos sought to have a long term employment rather than to be an entrepreneur
Filipinos prefer to be employees rather than business owners because most of them realize life is about family and happiness, and you need time for both. Businessmen have to put in long hours and will have to sacrifice their family and time necessary in pursuit of happiness. Being rich is nice but is not a must, having just enough money to live comfortably is fine.
The problem is the mindset. It’s like we are trained to become employee, and other countries are the ones benefiting for it the most. Like most Filipinos will become nurse, doctors, seafarer, English teachers, etc. then because of low salary and lack of opportunity here, they go abroad. Gladly, I see changes now, especially new teachers, they’re encouraging students to have a bigger goal, to become boss, to own a company and not just an employee. They’re teaching us how important entrepreneurship is, so I have high hope for the country’s future.

@@juanshaftpatel7488 It’s indeed sad that the Philippine government is allowing Filipinos to work there as maids, but those who work as maids are only elementary graduates. Most Filipinos with degrees work in the medical field, as engineers, or as teachers. Though Filipino maids in Dubai are still lucky compared to maids from the Indian subcontinent, I observed that Filipinos do get a lot better treatment than other workers from the Indian subcontinent because generally Filipinos are smarter and very hygienic, so they smell good. They don’t stink like those from the Indian Subcontinent.
Every people has preference don't get feel bad if they want that way. Also the lack of opportunity and high standard qualifications here is the effect of our restrictive economy to foreign investors we have less competition and lack of job creation
@@binge4073 I'm sure many only got forced by their parents to take those courses. The mindset that only by becoming a nurse, teacher, or doctor is the only way for them to surely have a job, is a problem in this country. @@BABYMONS7R.OFFICIAL sadly, that's the truth. Even if you're skilled enough, without recognition or certification the chances of one getting an opportunity to display their skills is rare.
I agree. I think, its mainly about knowing what you want. And your drive and motivation on how to achieve it.. of course every person has different challenges, but there's no one way of achieving something. Educational background (academic) could only get you so far and ahead. Its important but its not the only way. Education doesn't stop and is not limited within the four corners of your classroom.
@@BABYMONS7R.OFFICIAL It's true that even in call center agencies, it's difficult to secure a job. However, I was fortunate enough to discover the freelancing industry, which has enabled me to earn a six-figure income despite only being a 22-year-old SHS graduate. I am currently saving up money so that I can support myself when I decide to enroll in college. My ultimate goal is to obtain a degree in a field that I am passionate about.
If there is one thing UP system taught me is how to survive in the real world. I found myself in UP Diliman. Love that campus. So many memories and so many friends. I will go back to that carefree time of my life again in a heartbeat.

Philippine education is primarily a business by the schools. Students were required to take subjects which are not related in their course, consuming your time and money for subjects you dont like. Example, Engineering and you are required for literature, social sciences, etc. Phillipine students were trained to be employed after graduation or work abroad ( nursing ) instead of encouraging them to put up their own businesses.
The business side of any course is a major you can choose. For example, in my time in year 2007, there's a course like BS Information Technology, major in Business administration. There's also a major in Entrepreneurship of the same course. No idea if that's still the case but I don't think there's any reason for the government to change that system.
Hi Ryan, no , this is not the case today but entrepreuneurship is part of our curriculum (actually two, senior high and in college) as opposed to being chosen as major. Instead, what we have on our majors are deeper knowledge on our respective fields (eg. Networking, UI / UX , MicroElecs, Sys Admin etc. ) . Hope this helps 😊
@@chocofield but those non-related subjects should only be offered in the high school years not in the college years. Think the relevancy of the subject areas like literature and other non related areas which are being included in a poor academic curriculum, is it really applicable in the real world when you' are gonna seek for a job once graduated in college as an engineer, for example.?

Most filipinos dont understand that companies hire people with a degree because of this simple fact: You were a given a goal to complete in 4-5 years, showed up everyday, completed all tasks assigned to you, and got a grade of average to above average. A degree represents your discipline and determination to accomplish something. When you apply for a job, your employer expects the same thing from you, that you would show up everyday, do your job, and stay with the company for a few years. So a degree only matters if you want to find a job related to your course. But if your aim is to earn money, you should not be limited to what you've learned in school

Many usually misunderstand the reason behind the grind for a degree. "Get a degree so you can be rich". No, that's not it. Engineers go to an engineering school to be an engineer. Dreaming for riches is just simply superficial. Everyone wanted that, I mean who tf doesnt? But not all can or even wish to be a doctor or a singer.

In my opinion K to 12 is already good base structure. What we need is a more centralized systems, from my knowledge different school provincial departments make their own books and how lessons are taught. We need to have a national Think Tank/office to create a curriculum for the entire country and this need to be followed by all the schools. Books should be uniform also other materials given to student should be similar around the whole country. The walang maiiwan mandate in DepEd should be stopped, you need to fail students to maintain quality. Also now that all lessons would be based on a Centralized Curriculum we could have national exams back to progress from Elementary school to Junior high and from Junior high to Senior high. Since we are failing students now we could also start have technical schools cause a student might not be good academically but they can be good at other crafts.
There are a lot of people with lack of education but excel in their own way of living... Mindset is the key. Don't ask questions to those self entitled students relying on their parents
UP is a microcosm of Philippine society. I've met students from all walks of life. I've interacted with some of the top professors in the country. People in the campus are generally nice, polite and helpful. I learned many things outside the classroom. I learned to be resilient, critical and open-minded. Many of my UP friends are in fields not related to their degrees. Many of them are leaders and innovators. What helped them transition and grow are the values and skills they developed while in UP.
The problem is not our educational system but the government in general, the fact that we produced lots of graduates but only few people only are qualified for the job specially in the public sector, I mean there are lots of job openings in the government but only few people with an exact qualifications are needed. After mo ng college, most of the time, mahirap makahanap ng work at malamang sa call center ka papasok. Which is okay, malaki yung sahod sa call center. Tapos as time goes on, marerealize mo na walang yumayaman sa pangangamuhan, so mag iipon ka nlng tapos mag bubusiness. So ayun, ang formula lang ng buhay is, kuha ng diploma, kuha work experience, mag call center or mag abroad, ipon pera pambusiness.
Age discrimination also exists in the Philippines hence why a lot of our people end up on Call center/no work or work in other countries for a better wage.

Students should not be ignorant on that subjects

But the problem is, the current leaders in this country were either turning a blind eye to the continuous decline of education quality or they're too incompetent in finding long-term solutions to this dilemma. Because of anti-intellectualism and historical distortion spreading like pandemic in all sectors of the society, especially evident in social media, my mind is already entertaining the possibility of apocalyptic ignorance in a global scale. But gladly, he did not mind all of the negativity and proceeded to become a Doctor, he became a working-student to pay his tuition and eventually he graduated with flying colors on Adamson University. In my own point of view, the only problem here is the mindset of the Filipinos that college is only for well-being people because there is still some solutions that will help in order to claim what we have dream of becoming someday like scholarships etc. Filipinos always stick with this mindset because of the negative comments they will receive if they have proceeded on doing this. Still hurts and regret it that I didn't take UPCAT back in high school. I was in a special class, also part of the honour list, but I didn't have the courage to take the UPCAT, unlike my peers. Hey Rob, keep it up with your content rather than the the usual daily clickbaity vlogging of other foreigners just for views. Well-thought contents are deserving of more subs and views.

UP is a microcosm of Philippine society. I've met students from all walks of life. I've interacted with some of the top professors in the country. People in the campus are generally nice, polite and helpful. I learned many things outside the classroom. I learned to be resilient, critical and open-minded. A UP diploma is great but it's only the starting point. You have to prove yourself many times to your employers and to your peers because they expect you to be better.
They also want people who has a lot of experience in a field of work rather than those who has no experience.
and the thing is, those experienced people prefer to work in other country as they will received higher salary and will have a better compensation.

Thank you so much for correctly locating UP Diliman as part of Quezon City and not "Manila" like many other ignorant travel vloggers do.
Quezon City is the largest city within the Metro Manila region (formally, the NCR) and is about 7x the size of Manila.
Also, unlike all other cities in Metro Manila, Quezon City is the only one that locals call by its full name "Quezon City" so as not to confuse it with other nearby locations that are also named "Quezon" such as Quezon Province, Quezon Ave. etc. Other cities, like Manila and Makati, we simply call them as such (i.e. no need to say "city" anymore).
I am currently a PhD student at Benguet State University.. One thing I realize is the culture of state owned universities depends on the location of the university.. UP's culture is more urban driven because they are in the Manila unlike state owned universities like Benguet State, Pangasinan State, and Isabella State which has a more rural culture because they are rural..
Whatever course you have, its your determination to have a good future, many became successful already in the Philippines and abroad
I know some graduates from UP na hindi makakuha ng magandang work kasi feeling entitled na sila. Kasi daw, UP graduate sila..
Indeed haha
Natumbok mo. 🎯
Korekek sistah 🎉❤
swak
so, you’re okay with the sahod today? I mean, naghirap ka sa school tapos you knew na you did great tas magse-settle ka sa mababang sahod? we need to demand. walang mangyayari kung puro tanggap tayo sa bare minimum.
The best university in Asia. I'm so proud. Public Admin grad here.
Common misconception is that UP is for students who can't afford to study.
Actually yung tuition fees nila halos pumaparehas sa mga private universities sa atin, for all I know is that pwede mag enroll sa UP kahit di nakapag take ng UPCAT na which is for isko at iska
@@soniametcalfe7689 lol isko and iska puro rally naman
@@soniametcalfe7689 they do that by prof of UP to support CTG And pro Maotism
Wow, thank you, actually my son, graduated last year in UP also, and for us, if your child will graduated in UP oh e are so proud because they said that entering UP is not so easy😊
The Linguistics guy is very articulate.
he talked about historical revisionism but forgot also to mention about historical omission. what happened after edsa?
@@srebaayao9616 Good for this guy, he looks like he's doing good. But hey it isn't like the guy is going to deliver speech in front of the world man, it's a random interview by the campus from a random Ytuber. Why is this suddenly his job now?
@@srebaayao9616 lmao
What Philippines need is more Trade Schools such as Electricians, Hvac, Commercial Plumming. The paradigm educational shift is also a result of the growing demand for skilled trade workers in various sectors and industries versus College.
I always dream to study in up, because i think the students there are more open minded when it comes to the situation of the country.
Try to visit also some big schools in university belt like like University of Santo Tomas , Far Eastern University, University of the East, Centro Escolar , etc.. You will get a lot of new subscribers there.
Out of all the people I know who graduated in UP. Only 1 is humble and has a very open mind.
filipino peeps focusing more on degree but not enhancing skills and beng wise. its hard to be filipino though as a student we're pressuring ourselves to be like what the society are basing for. Mag engineer ka para yumaman tayo, nung naggraduate liit sweldo di makabuo sariling firm. Maybe it works sa mga may connections especially kapag family mo is may ganung business
10:36 I find this answer quite tone deaf because do you really think people have a choice on wether they want work or not? Some people have to work to sustain their education and to help their family.
cool interview!
Wow! absolutely like this vlog..more upload
Nagsimula lahat ng tanong "Do you think??"
This interview is good... I think these students are speaking their mind...gogo ka isko ka iska fight for academic freedom
wow make more videos here in philippines since Filipinos are top users of social media in the world
There's a lot of college/university graduates every year but the sadly less opportunity locally.thats why some went to other countries for applying for job or job opportunities.
I love your content it’s really interesting thank you for creating this vlogs especially this content it really helps us especially to the fresh graduates and still pursuing their studies it’s a big help for them at least they have the idea about their own choices before it’s too late but me i was graduated in college but still didn’t get my diploma due to have some financial problems but after i graduated I never think about my diploma as long as I know how to speak and think what’s the best for me . But thankfully with my ability to do some things and experience some things it helps me to survived I still have my own job even not related with my course I was graduated as an I.T but I work as a promoter I’ve experienced many job through my skills that made me survived from then till now . For me if there’s an opportunity I should’ve try it then I can add my experience with that experience I can use in the future and of course I can’t made this without my faith in God thank you Allah 🥰🥰🥰🤲🏻🤲🏻🤲🏻
Keep the vlog coming Rob! I’m ur number 1 supporter! 🎉❤😊
Good interview rob .♥️
Good morning 🌄
UP students are really smart. They aren't the smartest and the best for nothing. You can really see them being knowledgeable and articulate
di tau sure diyan pre. kaya nga sila nalukluk sa gobyerno kasi smart sila. presidente, senator, congressman, dept. secretaries, heads of government offices, halos lahat tinambakan nila kasi nga smart. pero san na tau ngaun? smart ba?
i think UP students nowadays are from rich families. unlike before that anyone can study at UP regardless of their economic status
dati it's always been about pagiging matalino, masipag etc. pero ngayon it involves money na which somehow hindi na siya nagiging school for the people.
