I find this story to be very sad. Yes, they had a great deal of material wealth, but they experienced an even greater deal of emotional pain, which is very difficult to live with or without.

I would love to read lips and find out what made him laugh. Living in New York in the early seventies, they were a noise. Then they became infamous for their sponging. Rich people paid their bills, gave him investment advice and in some cases gave him the money to invest and loaned them original art to hang in their suite at the Waldorf Astoria (Monet, Winslow Homer,etc). They never picked up a check. I’m not a fan.
