1936 saw three kings of England, in a year that greatly unsettled the monarchy. Following the death of George V, he was succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII, who a few months later abdicated and was exiled to France, and his younger brother George VI ascended to the throne. This was a time of great crisis and instability for the English royal family, calling into question the role and relevance of the monarchy in a world in the midst of change.

There COULD NOT have been 2 living Kings in Britain in the 1st place. Edward wouldve continually sought to undermined King George VI, and King George VI would NOT have taken too kindly to it.

At 9:07 the narrator seems to imply that it was his investiture as Prince of Wales that made the Prince next in line for the throne. The Prince had been next in line from the moment Edward the 7th died,. He would have inherited the throne even without the title Prince of Wales had his father died before the investiture.

Excellent - in its use of archive film; fresh historians who were not the usual former polytechnic DEI maniacs (who are neither representative or diverse); and a clear mission simply to present and explain this timeless story for a new audience. Well done.

Many decades, if not almost a century later, in Spring 2024, all I can feel about the current state of our world today, even since 2020 is a deep sense of heartbreak and total despair, coupled with a deep and fearful sense of foreboding at what is yet to come in the years and decades ahead - I earnestly hope and fervently pray for direct divine intervention from Almighty God to resolve our current heartbreaking situation in a way that no earthly effort of mankind can ever come close to possibly achieving 💔😪😔🙏

King George 6 th was a great king and good man . He thought his daughter Elizabeth well. Also maybe the UK should thank Mrs Simpson as well.
I eventually had to stop watching as the apologists for Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII were insufferable. I look forward to their work on Prince Harry and his wife in the future.

Even if Edward and Wallis remained king and queen, George the Sixth still will become king as they didn’t have children because Wallis couldn’t . This would mean Elizabeth the second will not be queen in 1952 but later making her reign shorter than 70 years.
If Edward and Wallis had remained King and Queen, then the Nazis would've invaded the UK.
Be in do doubt, the Crown being on the head of George 6th is exactly where England and the World needed it to be.
George the sixth wasn’t the first monarch to be king while his predecessor was still alive ever heard of Henry the sixth and Edward
@mikealvord55 : What about Queen Mary II and her husband King William III reigning while Mary's father former King James II was still living. Also a few centuries earlier when young King Edward III was reigning his father former King Edward II was still living for about 8 months after being overthrown until his wife ( Edward III's mother ) had him secretly killed.

King George V, the queen's grandfather was the best king ever, but he is so underrated
Given the history that we have truthful accounts of, I am very critical of the Edwardians from 1901-1910 as they totally abandoned their sense of duty and moral values, so highly prized in the Victorian Age and they also squandered the benefits of the conquest of empire, threatening its safety, security & stability and the gains made in the Industrial Revolution - their hedonism and selfishness also unwittingly created the conditions for WWI to happen in 1914, regardless of their reasons for their actions

There’s no doubt that George and Mary weren’t the best of parents but people, and especially one of these “experts”, can’t seem to realize that almost everything we know about them comes from a child who wanted to blame his parents for all his problems. None of the other children was such a loser. I’ve got to add that the reading of Wallis seems to me to be so woefully misplaced that I can’t even continue watching. Couldn’t the producers of this documentary afford to spend the money on a real expert?
Everyone talks about how attractive King Edward was. I'm not seeing it. He wasn't exactly Brad Pitt.

Edward's judgement was terrible, best he wasn't King during WWll
George V was fully democratic. He assisted the Parliament Act of 1911 to ensure the House of Commons were superior to the Lords.
There was no war in 1936. It was completely legit to deal with Germany at that time. The UK had mass unemployment an poverty. Germany did not have either. That is what Edward VIII admired. He thought the current tory PM did too little for creating jobs, and he also thought the tory party did too little for the unemployed.
Your opinion is very dated. Edward and Wallis Simpson were not simply interwar admirers of the Nazis, which is contemptable enough. They were sympathizers and collaborators, which is indefensible. After Edward abdicated, he and Wallis visited Hitler during their honeymoon. Wallis had affairs with Von Ribbontropp and passed him intelligence. Even after the outbreak of war, Edward and Wallis passed intelligence to the Nazis through Spain and Portugal as late as 1940. They were traitors. The recent declassification of British state papers confirms it.

………Edward was very stupid, & very lazy. He was improper with security of Govt. papers’. He just wanted to continue with his louche life. No loss whatsoever when he was made to abdicate. Great disaster averted.
