You have to remember that a brake fluid tester only tests what is in the bottle under the bonnet, and not what is physically at the calipers, which is where it actually matters. You'd have to bleed some of the fluid off (with a pressure bleeder) and then test it.
I have only recently discovered your channel - and I am so glad that I did! Great content, straightforward presentation and such a pleasure to hear an English bloke “speak” information rather than an American shouting and arm waving on a beach! Thank you for your efforts, sir… Subbed. 🙏👍👏

I've got a Great Independent Mercedes Garage for my 2015 ML W166 ,They use the exact original parts & the same Mercedes service history cloud but its litterly half the price!! & they've been brilliant on both our Mercedes's
Hi @georgejackson7607 Looks like your engine is running the OM642 engine. My understanding is that the it is 65k miles or every 5 year (but I tend to work to the mileage). Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil
Just watched a couple of your videos and found them most interesting and informative. My c200 cdi does not have push button start, presumably for priming the FF you turn key to 2nd pre start detente position?
Great video. Where can I get the right pliers for removing the fuel line clips please? If you have a referral code for somewhere happy to go with that.
Hi. I' basically the same opinion and would even go beyond and do the oil service by myself. Of course, in that case, no Mercedes stamp in the maintenance booklet. Mercedes like any other brands are trying to make their customers dependant and so ensure comfortable revenue with the maintenance. I prefer to invest in good quality parts rather in subsidizing the manufacturer's infrastructure
Agree, this is a big revenue stream for the manufacturers! If you're going to keep your car long term, then there may not be much value in getting the Mercedes stamps, especially as you can keep all of your receipts and prove that the work as been done. I'm trying to strike a balance I suppose in getting the stamp but keeping the costs as low as I can...
....and wanted to complete my comment in saying that even Mercedes sometimes mounts low-priced parts on their new vehicles (e.g. Chinese low quality tires).
Hi, well the purpose of the video was to retain full Mercedes Benz service history, (which is good for resell price etc when you eventually decide to sell the car) and to do this, you have to let Mercedes do the oil change. But you can still save money by doing the "optional" extras yourself, like the fuel filter, cabin filter, wipers etc. Hope that helps! thanks, Phil
I can understand the point, doing your own servicing (or part of the service) isn't for everyone but it depends on your skill level and confidence in your own abilities. My car is out of warranty now (apart from the body corrosion one). I still get my main dealer service stamp by letting them do the main part of the service and then I save money by doing the extras... 👍 Cheers, Phil
@merlin1346 That's a good way to do it for a car that you know you are going to be keeping long term! 👍 But, if you want to retain the MB service history, you have to let the service center do that part. ☹ You can still save money by doing the extras yourself (as shown in the vid). Cheers, Phil
@@ReviveMyRide We made a recent enquiry with a reputable garage as to whether they would accept a part exchange and they said they would even though there is no MB service stamps for the past 4.5years but there are receipt's for every item purchased on our cards. There is also a MB service garage near me who will quite happily fit none MB parts, but will a new owner know its not oem?
@@merlin1346 Hi, yes, you get a range of people out there when it comes to buyers. If you have done the servicing yourself, some are happy as long as you have receipts for service items. If you have an MB service garage near you who will service the car and give you the electronic record (or stamp in the service book), then most buyers won't look any further than that. TBH, if you buy good quality items, they will probably meet Mercedes OEM quality anyway. Mercedes don't make oil filters and air filters, they just get one of the reputable companies to make them for them.
Hi Phil, thanks for posting this video, it makes great sense if people can do the easier parts of servicing themselves to save money. Mercedes quoted £600 for the "B" service, even though the car indicated the "A" service was due. I went to an independent in Sheffield called the German Auto Centre that carried out the "A" service for £200 using genuine Mercedes parts. They also offer a reduced cost option by using alternative non Mercedes parts. The filter changes are a good way of saving money by DIY including the cabin and pollen filters for the air con. Main dealers also offer "extras" such as air conditioning cleaner for £35 - 40, when you can do this yourself if you buy the product from a motor factors for about £6 -8. I keep my bills for parts for proof of maintenance when I sell. Keep up the good work, Thanks again.
Hi @viktorjaness4152 Thanks for your post! Seems that we have a similar ethos and you mentioned some really good additional work above that is easy to do and will save money! Love it! Yep, as you say, keep all of the receipts for when you eventually sell and the jobs a good one! 👍 Cheers, Phil
I’ve called my local MB dealership, I’m due a B service too (dust, air, fuel, brake fluid) on my 17 plate S205 as per your post, and if I book into them for a ‘basic’ service, they inform I will lose the breakdown cover, paint warranty and other bells and whistles… irrespective of consuming genuine MB spares, then as for the e-service history, they inform they will record a ‘basic’ service was carried out against the ‘B’ service interval, I presume this is in line with your understanding?
Hi @ICMSPLM I wasn't aware of this, so thanks for raising the point! I'm due in at Mercedes in the next week or two, so will definitely ask them about this! I've been doing a little bit of reading about the paint warranty. forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/mercedes-paint-warranty.97063/ I'm not too bothered about the breakdown cover tbh... Thanks, Phil
Hi, sorry, I don’t have the car anymore, so I can’t show that part. Also, as the main part of the service was done at MB and I just did the “extras”, they reset it for me… thanks, Phil
Thanks! Glad you liked the video! 😀 As you probably know, Mercedes moved to an electronic service record a while ago. The car owner can ask for a printout but I'm pretty sure they won't do it for someone who can't demonstrate that they are the owner (i.e. in this case, you). I would ask the seller to obtain the printout, otherwise, unless they have receipts, assume the car doesn't have service history and value it accordingly. Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil
Hi Phil, great video! Just. Just a quick question are Mercedes dealers okay with you requesting an A service if the B service is due? Do they try and push you towards getting a B service? Thanks
Hi, I expect they will push you towards the service that is due but as you are the customer, you can request what you want. However, to keep your service history, you will need progress the service that due. In the video, I had the correct service done by Mercedes but then completed the optional extras myself to save some pennies. 💰😎

I often bleep off some at the calipers and top up the reservoir but never thought to test what I collected from the calipers. I'll give that a try! 👍😀
Just shows how easy that was to do. I'm not a merchant but someone with a bit of common sense could do this. Very well shown how to do

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 👍😁
The brake fluid maybe green in you’re reservoir but the brake fluid in your lines may not be green ?
