My Mom's 2013 C300 4matic with 76K miles started shuddering (4 wheel drive locking), I called the dealerships and a shop nearby and they both wanted $900 dollars to change the fluid, but after watching your extremely detailed video I'm just going to do it my self and save $600, I'm not an auto mechanic but I had changed an Audi quattro transmission and timing belt by my self so this should be a piece of cake, I'm also a TH-camr and I know all the extra work of filming while fixing something, I really appreciate it, Thank You
Hi @IGATECK thank you for the super thanks, much appreciated! Always nice to get positive feedback from a fellow creator because as you said, you know what's involved in the making of these videos! I love it when one of my videos inspires someone to DIY a job and save some money, so thank you for sharing your story. Yes, with the level of experience you mentioned above, you should have no problem with this job, just allow a full day for it, so that you don't get rushed. Cheers, Phil
Nice job brother. Awesome content you have sir. @ReviveMyRide
Absolutely great detailed video Phil.
I have done this in a 745 LI BMW, will your instructions be a similar process for a 2012 S550? Please advise.
Thank you- Roger
This is the best video and presentation style I have seen on a Mercedes transmission fluid change. Your speaking skills and methods of explanation are remarkable. I hope to find more relevant content on your channel. Cheers!
@rziegelbauer Thanks a lot of your very kind comments, much appreciated! 🙌😊
This right here is the most solid video on trans fluid service of this transmission HANDS DOWN!! I know because i’ve been putting it off for weeks and i have seen dozens of videos now lol
Wow, thank very much! 🙌 Sounds like you are doing your research, which is good 👍 Hope it goes well, if you have any questions drop me a comment! Cheers, Phil
Very well done , thank you for doing this.
No probs at all, glad you liked the video 😊 Thanks, Phil
Absolutely brilliant video! No fancy tools, no tricky rubbish or parts left unexplained or vague enough to make you lose courage and give your money to a shop that's gonna do it for you.
Again, brilliant!
Hi @dragos-lucian Thanks very much for your very kind comment! 👍
Bro just watched your video and your attention to detail is spot on ! Il start bringing my car to you for a gearbox service ! Clear and concise information 👌
Thanks very much! 👍😀
Great video. Good job mate. You saved me a ton of money on my flood damaged c350. Thank you
Thanks, glad it helped! Interested in the flood damaged project, did water get into the transmission, hence the fluid change? Next project car on the channel is a flood damaged car (I’m working on it now), but didn’t consider the transmission, just worried about the engine!
This is a good example of an instructional DIY video. Cheers.
Thank you! 🙏
Such a good video. Thank you for taking the time to be so thorough and especially for reviewing the variations in the newer models.
I was really in two minds about how much detail to put into the video (my understanding is a lot of people want the basics and just look for the shortest video!). Thanks so much for your feedback! Cheers, Phil
Absolutely fantastic video and instruction style. Clear, detailed, and logical. Heading out to do this on my GL320. Process might not be 100% identical, but at least i am now armed with core knowledge. thank you!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate your post. Good luck with it, any questions just ask and I’ll help if I can! Cheers, Phil
Thank you for taking the time to film this diy video. Easy to follow directions and list of materials needed to refill the trans fluid into the pan gives one confidence to tackle the job as a diy project.
Thank you, that's exactly what I am trying to do: Give people the information and confidence to tackle jobs like these themselves. Hopefully enabling people to be 100% sure their cars are being well looked after and saving some money along the way! Cheers, Phil
I’m glad I found this video. I have to do a transmission service soon on mine and compared to other videos, this is by far the best. Thank you for saving me a lot of money by having to take it to a shop to have serviced.
Hey, thanks so much! Really appreciate the kind comment and great that it saved you money! 👍😎 Cheers, Phil
One of the best video and presentation I have seen overall and specially on a Mercedes transmission fluid change. Your style of explaining is what a DIY looks for. Special thanks for full description of your own made filling valve. My 2013 e350 bluetec is now around 135k miles so in a year or so I will be doing this transmission oil replacement.
It is the best comprehensive video of all what I have watched. Many Thanks. Canada
Thanks so much! Great to hear from a viewer in Canada. Lovely country, Hope to get back there one day for a holiday and some sightseeing! Cheers, Phil
Excellent, well organized, good camera work, and excellent and clear narration. I"m working up the guts to do this on my 2014 CLS550 and this was extremely helpful.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks very much! Really appreciate the comments :-) Cheers, Phil
Great delivery ... quick and to the point. Your little tips and suggestions make this a project I may attack in the future and save some serious $$$. Thank-you for your efforts.

A brilliant and very useful video ! Thank you very much for sharing this precious tips and valuable information !
You're welcome, glad you liked the video and thank for the message! 👍
Hey! Man that was a awesome video! Thank! You very much! 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks very much for your kind words! Loving the positivity! 🙌😎
Wow very impressive. Correct from start to finish. I never use the “add as much as you drain” method. Always check the level like in this video. It’s more work but you can be sure of your level being correct.
@curiousottman Thanks so much! 👍😀 Yeah, the "add as much as you drain" method is ok and simpler but the "level check and top up" even check again if required will ensure it is spot on! Thanks for your comment. Cheers, Phil
Excellent description, thanks a lot.
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video and thanks for the comment! 👍😎
I just found your channel and watched the video on changing the trans fluid on the Mercedes. I recently purchased a used 2011 E350 Cabriolet and have changed my oil already but not my trans fluid or filter. Your video was very easy to learn with and gave me the confidence to go forward with attempting to do this myself! Thanks for the helpful content and you will be saving me a TON of money I am sure! The dealer wanted $350 just to do an oil change (which I would NEVER pay as I am quite handy) but there is no telling what the bill would be to do a transmission fluid/filter service! Keep doing what you do and helping us DIY’ers out here!
Thank you! Congrats on the purchase, that's a very nice car and it sounds like you plan on looking after it! Yes, the tranny service is even more expensive and surprisingly, I have heard stories that some dealers don't even specify a tranny service and hence don't know how to do them! One of the reason I do my own is that I know it is being done correcntly. Cheers for you comment, Phil
Amazing.it's very Helpful. Thanks
Glad you liked the video and thanks for commenting! 👍
Thanks for the video, I just did the change it and it was very helpful. Some comments:
Your measurements are spot on I managed to get about 7.5l in, including the drained torque converter.
I didn't have a new torque converter plug so had to reuse the old one. The hex female on it failed at the specified 10nm. Seesm to be made of Mercedes chocolate. Quite annoying but I had to leave it in.
Personally I would meaure the level when the sump temperature is a little below 45C - the oil will be hotter than the outside surface of the sump.
Great you have a garage lift. I had to use ramps at the front and jack up from the steel transaxle at the rear - fine to do with a bit of softwood and a decent hydraulic jack, followed up by axle stands on the rear jack points (after removing the rubber car jack fittings) . The difficulty without a garage lift is to get it level for the oil level check. I discovered that 'level' on the 4 jack points is not the same as level on a flat road - the car normally slopes down a little towards the front. What Mercedes want is 'level on the 4 jack points' not 'road level'. It makes a significant difference as the drain plug is well forward in the sump, not in the middle. So to get this, adjust the rear jack until the sills between the 2 jack points on each side are level, using a long spirit level. You also need to make sure the car is level across the width as the drain plug is not central.
On my new drain plug the copper washer was loose. Of course in my haste it fell off between me picking it up and quickly screwing it in the leaking hole. Lucky I spotted it and re-did it, losing a little more oil.
Beware there are, currently, 2 slightly different types of sump and two significantly different types of filter for the 722.9 with red fluid. The newer ''SmartMediaTriple' filter A221 227 01 00 is better than the old one A221 277 01 95 and works with blue and red fluid but it doesn't work with the old sump. I upgraded my sump to be able to use this upgraded filter and my replacement (second hand) sump fitted fine. The new sump is very slightly larger and it won't take the old filter. The old sump won't take the new filter. The only reliable source of info on this is the Mercedes document "722.9 MCT 7G tronic trans_tips_and_tricks.pdf". Google it and look at page 50. I can't tell which filter you fitted as it is a Febi and Febi say both types are Ok and they are not. The new one has only 4 dimples on the undersiude and the old one has 8 or more. The Febi one seems to have none. My experience is it is quite difficult to obtain the old one and no supplier will know of the incompatibility issue.
The old rubber torque converter oval plug (A211 2710 180) has been replaced by a rigid plastic one (0009983121), probably because the rubber perishes slightly in ATF fluid. The rigid one fits OK but not snugly, keep the old one if the rubber is still OK.
Re. the aluminium bolts, aluminium has a much larger heat/expansion ratio than steel. I would be wary of replacing the specified aluminium one swith steel.
To get the oil in I drilled two holes in the cap of one 5l ATF container and fitted a car tyre/bicycle Schrader valve to one and a long plastic tube to the other. I then poked the tube to the bottom of the container and connected the other end to the sump using a cheap adapter. Then I connected a car tyre pump to the schrader valve. It's safe to put up to 10PSI into the container before it bursts (ask me how I know). 5PSI works fine . Then all the oil gets gently transferred into the sump. I used plastic brake hose clamps instead of a on-off valve.
Wow, thank you for the very detailed post. Some really good comments and information in there which will help me and others, so thanks very much for taking the time to write it and provide the detail. I can almost feel an update video coming on! 😄👍 Thanks, Phil

Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video 👍😀
I want to thank you for your videos, I’ve got a 2011 E350 and I had trans shutter. I learned how to change my fluid and filter from you. It’s smooth as butter now!!!! They had the wrong fluid and was low. Thanks again. I like all your videos.
Fantastic, glad you got it sorted! Yes, there are a lot of people and tranny shops out there who don't know how to service this Merc tranny properly! well done and glad you like the vids! 👍😎
@@ReviveMyRide
New issues, went on vacation, drove about 600 miles no problems up and down the mountains of Tennessee for 3 days. As we were heading back home we drove around 10 minutes stopped at a red light and tranny didn’t want to go home. Lol I have nothing in any gear. Just revs up the rpm’s. And no engine light. Any idea what is up with the transmission? Help.
Great tutorial! Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome! Glad you found the vid helpful 👍 Thanks, Phil
Very detailed, German style instruction:) Thanks a lot sir! What you missed to mention is the recommended
fluid change interval.
Thank you! Yes, you are right, I should have put something about service intervals... They are a bit of a pain, they changed a lot and then there are what Mercedes owners consider "best practice" too, sometimes best to let people decide for themselves but yes, I could have provided some guidance... Thanks for you comment! 👍😎
Thanks! On it tomorrow 🤙
How Did you get on? Success I hope! 🙂
Excellent advices and explanation.
Thanks for sharing your valuable knowledge

Excellent job 👏
Thank you! 😊
Very informative. Thank you.
Cheers!
Maybe the best DIY video I've ever seen. Thanks! We have a 2013 c300 4matic.. The torque converter plug is a bit more difficult to get at and makes a giant mess in the bell housing when draining. Getting the plug back in is also tricky but doable.
Thanks so much! Honestly, I don’t know what the thing is with the drain plug. I had heard that it is awkward to reach on later models! Thanks, Phil
Excellent and detailed explanation!
Thank you! 😎
Excellent explanation 🥳
Thanks! 👍😎
Very good video. Thanks a lot.
