I like to add, before sketching and even when it’s done for free, start a conversation with your client on what they think will work. Let them tell their story to you and how they would portray themselves. After that i always do a Pinterest Mood boarding exercise together with my client. I make two boards and share them with my client. One is “Wonderful” and the other is “Awful”. First up the client needs to fill these boards with images of what they feel tells their story, what they like or dislike visually, and what brands they like. Why do i do this? To get aligned on how we both think about the company, what we like and dislike but most importantly to get on the same page visual-verbally. To them, something “bold” or something “minimal” probably means totally something different than for me. This exercise gets that out of the way. Second. After this I complete a third board myself on which I put everything I think will work for them based on the two earlier created boards and the talk we had prior. When done, the client and I talk this board through and adjust it until they are happy. This is the point where I start mind-mapping and sketching. Because this board only contains stuff that's already a “YES” from The client. This leaves a lot of guesswork out of the door and gives more room for the YES YES YES work. Always works. Happy exercising 🏃

      That’s a good process.
Half the work is understanding what your client wants and need.
I’m no graphic designer myself, I come from a filmmaking background and am leaning more into learning this to enhance my motion graphics. BUT it’s the same as sitting down with a director as a cinematographer to understand their vision. Sometimes it’s super clear visually, sometimes it’s abstract and you gotta work with them to understand it and translate the words on the page to a visual language in the lens.

I feel like the logo could have been worked upon more. Instead of making it simple, I felt like adding in more lines to sort of showcase the logo in a better light would have worked better, but the minimalism of it works just as well. Adding in more lines to the sunrays and a little bit more to the frame itself would have worked more in that sort of logo design piece, rather than just, keeping it simple. Obviously don’t make it too much or too complex, still want to keep the simplicity of it in tact, but I felt like a little bit more could have worked in that logo piece. Either way, love your videos.

@@willpatersondesign Through the past few months I've been using Chat GPT in some steps of my process and it's helping me a lot in getting way better ideas in much less time. For example, I started using it for brainstorming. I take some few keywords from the briefing, then feed them into Chat GPT and ask it to generate new keywords and concepts expanding from those. Then I can either use some of the keywords it generated or use them as reference to explore new concepts that I didn't think of initially. If I feel that's not enough I just pick some of the new keywords and feed them again to generate even more. I've been using it in the early stages too, to help me get a better understanding of the market and target audience and define the brand strategy
