  • For me personally, this is the best method for removing paint. It's dirt cheap, accessible (I got my nail polish remover from Walmart) and isn't that bad. Takes a little bit of elbow grease but it's worth it in the end. Be sure to stick around in the final part of the video to see the side when when I'm done. Thumbs up if this helped you at all.
    Thanks.

I was actually gonna cut out the windows and replace with clear plastic ! Not now, great info and really helpful advice, i might get a few strange looks asking asking for nail polish remover, NON acetone please, at the shop (i'm in my 60's), but hell, so what lol

Going back and trying to remember based on your comment kinda made me grin. I remember checking out at Walmart that it felt a little funny buying that but oh well. You can say it's for the wife if ever pressed on it or just do self-checkout. :) Enjoy. Takes a pinch of elbow grease but it's not that bad and you will be happy with the results.

Thanks for the video. These seems the best tips I have found so far. I'll try this to clear my TRX4 Defender windows.

Yeah no problem. You have options. Can try this. if you want something a little stronger, I've seen some people have success with nitro fuel and if all else fails, you can cut them out and glue cut clear lexan pieces on the inside. Let me know how it turns out. Above all, use a microfiber cloth. Can't use anything that scratches.

If you're going to use chemicals, then rc nitro fuel is the only way to go. Acetone can soften the the lexan and then it becomes brittle. Depending on the lexan, it can actually get soft enough to absorb the paint into the plastic. I still think sanding then buffing Is the best way. Ive used all methods over the years. Starting with 600 was waay to coarse ✌

I hear ya. I wanted something not as potent so that's why I did the non-acetone nail polish remover. So the way I see it, I shouldn't get any softening of the lexan. I'll continue to monitor it but after day 1 using non-acetone nail polish remover, I can't tell a different in how it feels or behaves at all. Just seems like normal lexan to me.

Everyone is doing way to much work with window clearing. 30% nitro fuel. I cleared 6 windows on my Gen 8 scout body in 18 minutes.

600grit!!!! No, no, no. If you are going to sand use Micromesh sanding cloth. You should start with 2000grit, finish with approx 10000grit and then polish with a cutting compound.

Definitely, agree 600 grit was far to coarse. That being said, I'm so satisfied with the non-acetone fingernail polish remover method, for me that's simply the best method for getting crystal clear windows.

Why you don’t use tamiya paint removal?

Didn't know Tamiya had such a product. I'll give it a go next time I need to do this. I've done this process on 2 RCs. While I like the price (it was a dollar something) for the non-acetone fingernail polish remover, on one RC it worked beautifully. No problems. On the other, the paint was a real pain to get off fully 100% and took a lot more work. So I learned that not all painted bodies are the same and what paint they use from the factory to apply it.
