Wow, this is fabulous! Beautiful houseboat, but beyond this he was incredibly thoughtful at every point in this build!! Extremely impressive. It cool to see the propane lights. I grew up with a cottage in the Pontiac (just past the Gatineau, (Danford/Kazubazua) and we didn’t have electricity until the late 70’s... so we had propane to cook, run the fridge, and lights. Miss those simple days.
Thank you for allowing us into your wonderful home and sharing your thought processes that led your life to this point. To say this is a very well done presentation is an understatement. The design of the structure appears to be excellent. But it is the thought given to the systems, from the water supply to the wiring to the waste, which is most impressive. I do differ on the decision not to have door access from the bedroom(s) to the upper deck, both from a personal preference view and a fire safety perspective. A double door setup would protrude only a matter of inches onto the deck space and would make the insulation loss negligible.
Hi Dave. Thanks for your input. The upstairs rooms have windows for safety egress. There were a few reasons for not having an upper door to the deck. Two bedrooms, 2 kids and one gets a door and one doesn't = trouble. I get a lot of wind driven rain, and I've seen too many doors that end up leaking and causing rot. Budget was also a consideration. I've built the project out of pocket and paid as I went, so some things that would be nice to have included just were not in the cards. Lastly, I can always blow out a wall and add a door later if I really want one. Thanks for your interest & kind words Jay
I really fancy that he goes through all the systems and solutions one by one. Great design and workmanship but it also kinda makes one realize the amount of current system surrounding a usual home that "someone else" takes care of. Good stuff!
Your floating home is beautiful, Jay. I spent the better part of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area and was always checking out the houseboats in Sausalito and other harbors in the region. Unfortunately those floating homes are, for the most part, as expensive as land-based homes. So when I retired a couple of years ago, I really could not justify continuing with a $2000/mo+ mortgage plus HOA fee, so I opted to build a tiny house on wheels instead. I've been staying with family in Southern California while my tiny is under construction. I do occasionally daydream about taking the house off the trailer and putting it on a float, but consulting a builder of floats he asked me, "but where are you going to berth it? There are no available docks in the area." Bummer. My tiny house will be completed soon, and it looks like I will me moving it to the Oregon coast, so at least I will be close to the water. Your home is very inspiring nonetheless. Cheers.
What's the legal status of anchoring in the sacramento river and using a canoe to shuttle? I assume you'd have to anchor at a different place every day, though I really have no idea.
Every alt house situation would be different, and different in parts of the country it's done in. I lived in Fla and after a while more laws were made about who/how float houses were allowed, charged, etc. But, I certainly hope that laws (if any) will accommodate the alternatives that have been coming about in the last decades. Some municipalities seem stricter than others, and that may be fair or not. Like in Fla, you have to build with hurricane wind mitigation in mind. Ok, I want this house !!
I thought the thumbnail looked familiar, but when I started watching the video (I'm addicted to tiny home videos) I was all "OMG HELLO NELSON!" Easy to recognize our gorgeous community.

3 years of work , a lifetime of memories and comfort . Outstanding .
Lovely to see such a all through thought built house with everything basically thought of, fire, heating and working space. Absolutely worth a award for best built house boat
This has to be the coolest house I am seeing!
Oh my dream
They have folding carts you can use to tote your groceries or pellets. I have a cheap one but they make nicer ones, they fold up small and tuck away in a closet or small space. Really saves your back...
What a beautiful home. The water treatment process sounds amazing to. Would love to learn more about it.
This channel not only impress me of the quality of work this people does with the alternative homes but the level of intelligence, , eco responsibility and humbled this people are.
Such an elegantly designed home. It looks so peaceful and soul-fulfilling to live there. The gentleman has done an amazing and thoughtful job building this floating home. I’d live there in a heartbeat!
The amount of ingenuity in this floating/boat home is extreme.
I loved it, Jay. You & this house is an inspiration 😉
Beautiful home! I’m impressed with all the thought and preparation you have put into your home.
With these crazy times,if i had to be quarantine some where these would be one of them. Thanks for the video,to you both and your Subscribers, stay safe and healthy.✌🌍
Thanks so much Bob, all the best to you too :)
Love it! You and your kids will have wonderful, forever memories! Decades later, my kids and I still have lots of remember when conversations. Lived and cruised on our sailboat.
Mother Nature is smiling because of your love for the planet.
He's so smart. Such an amazing home.
Fantastic. This guy is meticulous, slow and steady. Great job. Was he an engineer?
I am wondering the same. He's attention to detail tells me he has great design skills. Seems like everything in the house has a purpose.
I bet he has so so so many admirers or jealous people when they see it !!
Hes got to be an engineer. Thats not a standard grey water system , anywhere. His other systems are so efficient too together with the build design. Although a number of his applications would be picked up sailing too.
That is what I thought, didn't see a ring.
@@Finderskeepers. he's not but one of the handiest guys you will ever meet. He's a natural
I'd love to see this when it's completely finished. It looks so freaking good already!
Amazing! This gentleman appears to have created an entire ecosystem that favors high quality of living by distilling life to its core key components - doing what one likes. Admirable.
Wow the amount of knowledge , engineering and labour you invested in building is outstanding. Respect.
I love the door with the big circle glass
I hope you will revisit this home once it's finished.
good point !
I want this kind of life. Peace. Especially the fire protection set up.
This place is so beautiful that I just keep watching it over and over. I don't remember I've seen it until it starts....then I'm like, "wow, this place again". Also this man is incredibly handsome and down to earth. Love his story.
You make me proud to be a Canadian, you are so responsible.I live in a.S. Cal now but my heart is still there. Beautiful houseboat!!
Love everything about your house and the flowers.
This is fantastic. I love this boat house. Nicely constructed and lovely decor. What a wonderful way to live on the water.
He's living my dream, great build, happy for him !
Thank y'all so much dearest 🌹
Y'all such an inspiration 🥰
Appreciate y'all from the bottom of my heart 💖
Be Blissful Eternally 🙏👼🌈
Dude, you are millions of men’s hero for this! Love it
Thank you for allowing us into your wonderful home and sharing your thought processes that led your life to this point.
Dave, please shave those Abraham Lincoln eyebrows.
Thanks for your interest & kind words
Jay
@@kevymoranski3887 Completely?? Don't you know what happened to Samson when his locks were shorn? He lost all his strength.
Loved the ways recycled things keep bills down. Great adventure.
I really fancy that he goes through all the systems and solutions one by one. Great design and workmanship but it also kinda makes one realize the amount of current system surrounding a usual home that "someone else" takes care of. Good stuff!
This guy did an amazing job with this place. I love that he thought of everything, especially the green aspects!
Every place has different laws. In Ireland, utility companies aren't allowed to supply houseboats. All the more reason to go off grid.
Check out the tiny home community in Waldorf Oregon on the coast.
Really impressive, the thought put into self containment is quite amazing.
I thought the thumbnail looked familiar, but when I started watching the video (I'm addicted to tiny home videos) I was all "OMG HELLO NELSON!" Easy to recognize our gorgeous community.
I recognized Nelson, as well. Beautiful city.
it is amazing that you know how much buoyancy you need to support the structure, two stories, and the stuff inside of it.
Beautiful, functional float home!
Everything so well thought out.
Thank you for explaining your decisions.
Instead of growing flowers, he should grow food. That would lessen the burden of walking for groceries all the time!
Yes. And make penicillin in case they catch some bacteria
@@zbigniewmazur819 he's in Canada, medicine is free.
@@AnthraxBird I'm Canadian, we pay less in overall taxes than the average American pays in taxes plus health insurance. For better healthcare.
gophermaster reason we pay more than Canada is because of all the foreign aid and our military. With the same system as Canada our taxes would almost double
@@eliezercohengoldberg1381 We pay to help other people but can't afford to help ourselves 😬
Smart man building a home like that with everything right in place
The greywater treatment system is awesome!
I am absolutely floored with how smart this house and man are!
