This is a video that I know many of you have been waiting for. I know many of you were excited for dad to see the truck for the first time after I finished all the work. In this video, you get your wish.
This officially marks the end of the #ETCGDadsTruck build, but it’s not the end of the story. I’m sure many of you are curious as to what caused the excessive crankcase pressure in (Episode 30). I plan to cover that in a future video (Episode 32) after I figure out what went wrong. Just give me some time to put that together and I’ll post it when it’s ready. Or you can find out sooner by following me on social media. Links at the bottom of the description.
For those of you that stuck with the build, thanks! I hope you enjoyed the journey, and learned something from the experience. I showed my successes and my failures during this build. I figure if you see what I screwed up, you wouldn’t make the same mistakes. I don’t mind ‘looking bad’ if it helps someone else. The main reason I make these videos is to help you.
That said, dad and I had a great time on the Power Tour 2019. There will be another video covering some of that. I didn’t record the entire tour. I was pretty warn out from the build, and I just wanted to enjoy the time with my dad. I hope you’ll forgive me for that.

I’m 30 and I have one question. What’s it like to work on a car with your dad? It Kinda sounds cool.
@@Hipsters_N_Hippies Well, speaking for myself, what happened as a kid (me being the "assistant" and learning by observing and asking too many questions) actually continued into adulthood out of respect for Pop.
There was that moment when we both realized that his own knowledge of cars (borne out of necessity, as he'd grown up with next to nothing and having to learn the hard way how to keep junkers running anyways) evolved into my own learning because it wound up I just loved cars.
He HAD to; I WANTED to and he always encouraged that.
When that moment happened, however, things still remained as they were when I was younger - Pop still took the lead and I still played apprentice, even though I wound up with a lot more abilities on cars.
In the end, I wound up being his own personal mechanic (just as Eric did here) even though cars have never been what I do for a living - and that made me immensely proud.
I wish he was still here for me to do that for now.
We always want the approval of our fathers, after all.
Eric is very blessed to have that now and it's obvious in this video he acknowledges it and cherishes it.

Wow...I’m speechless. I’m 43 and have never heard my dad say “Good Job, son” even though I tried to make him happy. Yeah I’m in tears.
Aaron, I was 51, he was 71 and one year from passing, before I heard it one time. It's damn near impossible for some men, because they weren't raised that way and feel it is awkward to talk about it. Just be sure to tell your kids, it means so much to them.
So sad you Dad did not speak those words... sure he thought of them at the time. Maybe not the type to speak words as such.
This is a learning moment for Fathers to always remember to be positive and say encouraging words to your children, especially sons. Young male egos are very fragile.
And children are never too old to say those words.
I grew up in a state orphanage.... orphan at age six.... Saying this to remind you to enjoy your parents while you have them.
Time takes them away much too soon.
Same here and when my dad saw my sister and my first cars, dad just said very little and later came back with a brand new car of his own, to rub our noses in it. No chance of him saying well done and proud of you etc. He kept doing this in later years with each car we got. However he did once buy me a really cool hot hatch car, when he heard I had got a job after being out of work for a while. I could see that he was in tears when I drove it away from the garage forecourt though... (he'd never admit to it I bet).
Judging by your comment on this video, I'm pretty sure you've done a lot of good jobs in your life, man. Made me cry, too.

Incidentally, dad nailed it on the wheels.
They were centerlines (the actual name of the company), and people put them on EVERYTHING!
There were a few companies that made knockoffs, but Centerlines were the real deal.

I once gave my then 70 year old dad a ride in my 500 hp 240sx.
He told me, that after a certain age the heart can’t take the adrenaline as much as it used too. So even if he finds the ride fun and thrilling he can’t push it as much as he’d like.

My Dad had a 1955 Buick, and I always looked for one to fix up for him while he was alive. I didn't work fast enough, he had a stroke and the opportunity was missed. This series hits close to home. Thank you for sharing, because a bunch of us are vicariously living a dream through your eyes. Side note, I love the father/son relationship you two have. Rock on dudes.

I ve watched a handful of your videos to fix or assist my 94 along and never put the dad's old truck and pardon me didn't realize he was still with us .So man that has got to be one of the greatest moments ever Eric .Super great to hear you guys gabbing on a out the truck man good stuff .

Eric (& Dad) I can't thank you enough for this series of videos. I have a '92 C2500 that i'm in the process of putting a crate motor in. With 298K the engine finally gave up the ghost. I chose to go the Carb route, but even so , your sharing the experiences was invaluable. I'm not going the pretty route either, but I'm doing what I can. Also, thank you for being brave enough to share your personal challenges with us. If you fall and brake a bone sympathy come from all directions, but "problems" from the neck up are seen by many as a weakness. Physical or psychological medical problems need treatment. Seeking help should never be an issue. Hope all is well, take care and God bless you for all you do.
Eric, I'm really glad to see that you're Dad gave you a "Good job " and an "I love you" . My dad passed away this year and I miss him for telling me those things and the appreciation of a good job well done. Just tell him everyday like its your last and he'll always be proud of you. Eric, your Dad seems like a super nice guy, and you can tell from his facial expressions that he’s very proud of you, and very impressed with what you’ve done with the truck. My father gave me a truck that is almost identical. Sadly, he hasn't lived long enough to see me finish it, he passed very young. I hope when I'm done he'll be as happy with it as your father was.
If your dad isn't exactly like my dad I don't know what is. What an amazing moment . You will never forget that 1st trip with him.

My first car was a project truck. 1982 Silverado. Was my dads truck when he was in college. It was passed to my uncle and he drove it as a hunting truck. He accidentally sank it in a swamp in FL, towed it back to my dads house and it sat for 9 years. My dad and me didn't have a good relationship. We hated each other some times. When I turned 15, I wanted a truck, and I wanted that old rusty chevy. We both ended up working on it together, he taught me everything. How to pull the engine, and rebuild it. How to weld, how to rebuild a carb and tune it by ear. He's a walking chiltons manual. That truck ended up saving our relationship. He's my best friend and we talk all the time. I can't get enough stories from him.
10 years later I still have that truck, and it still runs and drives. He asked me, "You have other cars, why don't you sell the truck?". I told him I can't. I could never sell it. He asked "why?" I told him, because when the time comes that you pass, I'll still have that truck. And when I drive it, it's like your sitting right next to me. I never seen him tear up till that day.

you know what the coolest thing is, Eric's dad totally gets the time work and craftsmanship of whats gone on with the truck. as well as understanding the technical aspects of whats been done.

Because my dad and i have almost nothing in common as far as interests, not a car or bike or machine person like me, i've found myself living vicariously through people who do things like this....hoping that one day i get to be the "dad" in a "Dad's truck" video. I'm 23 now.

Thank you! Before I start 'putting the hammer down', I need to sort out some issues with the engine that were pointed out in the previous video. It's still very drivable, but not for heavy use. For now, I plan to take a little break now that the series is over. I plan to revisit that issue when I come back. Thanks for your comment.

Glad you still have your father. Lost mine at 16 and been somewhat lost since. My dad was quite even though he was a war hero. I always tell folks my dad was made of bar steel, yes he was that tough.

SummitLifeTV honestly I wouldn’t know and I know I’m not alone....he taught me how to change oil when I was 10. That was it. Other than that I haven’t seen him since I turned 18. (I’m 30 now) and then I learned how to wrench with my buddy’s on our own cars. Sadly my story is more common than yours now. So if broken up households are more common, than wouldn’t they be the new “normal”? Someone please tell me why it is that normal is the minority. When the definition of normal is defined as the majority.... think about it. People get taller and fatter all the time. Ever looks at how tall we where 100 years ago? You can hardly fit in a model T Ford now. And t stood for tall. So if averages change why don’t the normals of our world.
