Instead of the non-stick cooking spray, I use slow-cooker liner bags (most supermarkets sell them, but I'm working on a bulk package I ordered from Amazon last year). Looks like your soup turned out great!

The finished product has me thinking about running out to get a package of 15-bean soup myself. It's been awhile! Tip: Always rinse the beans after sorting. There's often dirt, dust and bits of the bean shells/casings that should be washed away.

I put a slow cooker bag instead of cooking spray and when everything is cooked I pour the contents into another dish and put the bag in the trash can.

I once made a pot of beans that never cooked. I was told to never add salt until the beans were done. I add everything but the tomatoes, seasoning packet, and salt once it's done. I make this with smoked beef sausage.

Everyone you must soak beans over night or boil them once turn off heat set for 1 hr. Rinse then restart cooking process or beans will be dirty and taste like dirt.

i dont know what i did wrong but i made a pack of the hurst 15 beans soup 2 days ago, and i did exactly what the directions say but it came out tasting sort of overdone and sort of tart. it was also strange that during the entire about 7 hours of cooking time they never smelled good. i mean they didnt smell bad, but i was expecting some wonderful smell of cooking beans and smoked sausage to fill the house. but all i ever smelt was that sort of hot rubber or mechanical smell from the cooker itself. the directions recommended using broth rather than water for more taste so i went ahead and used chicken broth. the directions said to put the onion and garlic in first thing so i did. i think it also said to put the meat in first thing which i did, i mean after all thats sort of the point of a slow cooker isnt it? the meat is suppose to get really delicious from slow cooking for hours. but yeah i messed up somewhere because like i said it has an over cooked and tart tangy taste.

It could've been the garlic. I had that issue before

      NewWavePop:
It sounds like you need a new Slow Cooker, maybe the flavor was affected by the smoke it was putting out.
I made this soup tonight & it was pretty good. I sorted & rinsed the beans until the water was clear.
I placed it in the CrockPot with chicken broth, water, sausage, ham & onion, 1 lg carrot cut into small pieces & 1 green bell pepper. I set it on high. After 4 hours, I checked the beans & they were soft, so I added 2 heaping tsps of chicken bouillon, onion powder, garlic powder, 2 envelopes of Sazon Goya con culantro y achiote.
I also added a can of diced tomatoes. At this point it tasted great without the ham pkt, but you can add it if you want. I let it cook another hour. I did not add lemon juice because I don't like it tangy. Note: the longer you cook them, the softer they become - plus a nice thickened broth will form.
P.S. I did not need to add salt because of the bouillon, but the salt or bouillon should be added once the beans are soft, because the salt will prevent the beans from softening. I hope this information will help you on your next try.

So you cooked on high for 3-4 hours. After you put in the rest of the ingredients you said to cook some for but do we still cook on high and for how much longer before done?

What was your total cook time?

  • @deependz3231
    @deependz3231 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Oh, almost forgot, 4 cups of water, and a 32oz of chicken broth (33% less sodium), the 32oz equals 4 cups of broth.

Don't need no cooking oil, don't need any bag, cleans up easily with hot water. Don't need any fancy dandy slow cooker, that's a crock, High - Low- Warm - Off, is fine. Ham steak is a waste of money, buy a fully cooked ham with the bone, use the ham bone with cubed ham chunks cut off the bone. You don't need to saute anything, waste of time, just throw everything in at once, even the spice packet, minus the ham bone, cubed ham and diced tomatoes. Set that sucker on High and let it go for four hours, then add the ham bone, cubed ham chunks and diced tomatoes, continue on for three more hours, after three hours, pop the lid and let it cool some, as it releases the steam it starts to thicken real good, resembles chili, not this watery soup you see here. That's it, oh, and that corn bread, skip it, takes the taste away from some real flavorful soup, if you insist on cornbread, use it afterwards as some kind of desert.

Well, if your eating good ole southern cornbread made with buttermilk, you would like it. Real cornbread is not sweet. Not a dessert people! CORNBREAD

      It34102:
No one is asking you to eat what he cooks, so why go there? He is simply sharing a recipe. No reason to be rude & no reason to embarrass him in front of the whole world. I'm more appalled by you than by him. Auto mechanics and people in similar fields have a very difficult time removing used oil or transmission fluid from under their nails. That doesn't mean that they don't wash their hands.
      Shame on you!
