      Im guessing the ring gap was set incorrectly, thats what a piston looks like after it pinches a ring from too tight of a gap
      Edit: you can also see at 13:18 he squeezes the rings and the ends are touching, not good!

      It's hard to judge an entire brand for reliability when different people worked on different cars throughout the years at one company, like how most of Honda's cars are pretty reliable but the D17 Civic engines weren't great and didn't handle abuse very well and some of their auto transmissions from the late 90's in the Accords and minivans had common slipping issues

    If you want the beat to be regular daily driver without crazy numbers under the hood, honda L series engine might be a good pick. Bulletproof 4 cylinder engine and super fuel efficient. The displacement is also pretty small. 1.2L SOHC i-vtec. Newer honda also has a larger variant which is a turbocharged 1.5L making more than double the power than the said 1.2L NA one.

    You should consider L swapping it from a Honda Fit. Definitely a good power upgrade for such a light car or you could even supercharge it. Best part is that these engines would be insanely cheap so blowing them up wouldn’t matter. If I can’t convince you I’m sure Luke could.

    Oil doesn't cause detonation. It would make the mixture less volatile, making it a slight bit harder to detonate. That's from the ring ends butting, probably due to overheating. The ring expands and the ends pinch together, but it keeps expanding, so it goes the path of least resistance. Blows the crown off the piston and goes up. Usually it's from improper ring gap during assembly, but in your case I think either it was running a bit lean the whole time and finally got hot enough to let go or else the rings just weren't robust enough to run that high an RPM for that long.

    The Beats engine is slanted to give lower centre of gravity better weight distribution and allow the longest intake manifold for as much torque as possible. Being older honda, engine spins anti clockwise and with fuel tank mounted above trans it makes it very difficult to do an engine swap without re-engineering the whole car.

    Clearances & tolerances are completely different terms & I think you guys owe it to your viewers to use & explain the correct phrasing.
    Clearance is how big a gap there is.
    Tolerance is how much allowable error the manufacturer has specified.
    Your piston rings had a tight *clearance*. If they had a tight *tolerance*, all rings would have the exact same gap because there was little to no allowable error.

    I had a 1974 Honda 350-4 motorcycle that lived at 5000-7500 rpm all the time, and only finally failed due to an overstretched cam chain, years later. It was air-cooled, and in my younger days, the oil didn't really get changed regularly. So I doubt the high revs were what killed it. However, that ring gap was way too tight, just viewing it on screen, and I'd pretty much bet that it was rebuilt and never had the ring gaps set properly. The broken ring land is further evidence of that, since the ring land was constantly slamming into that tight ring to try to move it up and down the cylinder. I think the E07A deserves a proper rebuild, and maybe bore it to the first oversize if the cylinders will clean up at that point. I don't know if there are any performance parts available for these, but a good strong set of rods with some oil squirters directed to the underside of the pistons, might be in order, if you decide to try to turbo it in the future? I think that would wake that little 600cc engine quite nicely!😉

    I wouldnt say the H series is inefficient.... the technology used was way ahead of its time and is actually way more capable than people give it credit for, once you build them right. Honestly in terms of budget it is the same perfomance as a K20 for far less.

      @One_LuvZ ปีที่แล้ว

      Though the issue comes from parts availability. We have a coworker with a prelude and conpared to his two other vehicles (Si and TSX) he can find parts for those readily easy.

      @@One_LuvZ That is very true and I can't argue against the facts ..... That is the main issue with building an H22. However that being said I never said building a H22 was easier than a K series, because the K would be far easier with its large aftermarket support and mountain of information that could be found on forums. I was rather talking about stock for stock platforms and how the H22 in that regard would be right on par with a K20 for less money. Therefore saying it's an inefficient engine is not a correct statement.

    You guys should look into the ford dragon 3 cylinder found in the new base model Ford escape in the USA. That be an interesting not often done swap.

    This is a common result of detonation damage, that caused broken ring lands in the pistons. My guess is oil contamination of the combustion chambers caused by worn piston rings. Even a small amounts of crankcase oil contamination has a profound effect on reducing the octane of gasoline.
    Interesting little engine though. I'd rebuild it and look into implementing a tiny turbo for about 7-8 lbs boost. I think Honda even produced a turbo versions of a variant of this engine.

    You should put a motorcycle engine in it, with secvential gearbox! Like a Hayabusa or have a look into the Honda lineup.

    my guess : crank case ventilation hose removed. less oil in combustion chamber made it dry. heat and ring gap leakage finally broken rings and piston. my Proton car engine is based on mitsubishi engine like all 'japanese' engine had similar issue like 10years ago because i put a filter on it... they need those extra oil entering the chamber to function well.

  • @ggraf9327
    @ggraf9327 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok while I would normally say replace it with something Japanese, space is the problem. So I would recommend the 1.0L Ecoboost, it really is quite an impressive engine for its size, and a 3cyl.

    I would love to see a honda fit L15 swap in this. It should be small enough to fit. Its 1.5 so it makes 100hp compared to ~50. 40mpg in a fit so probably 50mpg in a beat lol theyre super available and the 6 speed is good. L15 are very reliable and they like being revved and cruising on the highway. Technically they can be boosted to about 300hp....It would dope to see.

    I'd be most interested in seeing a Motorcycle engine swap. Maybe a Honda v4 or inline 4 to keep it Honda? There is a sick 1972 Honda N600 with a VFR 800 engine on TH-cam, gear driven cams sound sweet (I own the same bike). Everyone does a Hayabusa swap so I'd like to see something more unique. There are engines that sound much better and you can rev them out on the street, so they are much more fun.
