    Same here.
    Arch, Radeon, over 800 titles on GOG, and no unplayable games. Some needed a little adjustments like proton versions, using the syswine instead or Glorious Eggroll's version. No problems with sound, resolution, controllers etc, everything just works. At this point, unless you're playing pvp, linux is fully functional.

    I’m running Fedora 41. I play Diablo 4, Galactic Civilization 3, Doom (2016), and Doom Eternal, all in Steam. All flawlessly. Honestly there is nothing I cannot do now, that I did in Windows. In my opinion, there is no longer a “have to” when it comes to Windows. It’s been a long time coming to get here, but I truly believe, what made this leap, was the development of Steam OS.
    My rig is a Lenovo Thinkstation P520, with a Xeon W-2145, 64GB Quad channel Ram, 1tb nvme drive, a 10tb drive for plex and additional storage, and now, an RX 7600XT, as I chose to move away from my RTX 3060.

    These days I cannot imagine Not being on Linux. Been using Linux on my desktop and laptop for over two years now (on and off for 7 years though) and I very much enjoy it. Thanks to Valve, Gaben, Proton, Glorious Egg Roll, and Arch, I have very little gamine woes. I've thankfully moved on from Blizzard, Ubisoft, and EA. The games I play don't "require" anti-cheat and I'm quite happy with the progress.

    The only problems I have with games are running some of the modding tools or launchers, which can be awkward at best to get working on Linux. Anything more complicated than dragging and dropping files into the game directory is pretty iffy and requires more trial and error to get working, if it will work at all.

    I switched to Nobara, wasn't gonna wait until Windows 11 was forced, and yeah I've been loving it. The one experience that kind of blew me away was when I finally got a Freesync OLED monitor, something I was craving after being stuck on a TN 4K non-Freesync monitor, and I was prepared for all this troubleshooting, trying to turn on Freesync and who knows what wouldn't work.. Well I just turned it on on the screen itself, the rest sorted itself.. I couldn't believe it at first but I've run Freesync/G-sync tests, and yeah it just worked.
    But yeah I haven't wanted to switch back, Steam works so damn well, it is so rare I experience anything I can chug up to Proton. Right now I'm playing Cyberpunk2077(downloaded from GOG, playing using Proton via Steam), it runs and looks perfect, although those RT effects sure make my poor 6950 XT howl.

      This is unrelated to the operating system, but TBH I can’t find a single reason to enable ray tracing in games in which it can be disabled as the framerate cost is insane while the visual benefit is barely noticeable in many cases. I play with 6800XT on a 4K OLED as well.

    1:45 - The games people are talking about use Easy Anti-Cheat, like Apex Legends and the like, which requires Windows.

    • @LinuxRenaissance
      @LinuxRenaissance  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Some of them are like you said. Some of them simply are not aware that almost every SP game works.
      Also Easy Anti-Cheat is not the problem. Both EAC and Battle-Eye are officially supported for Linux. The problem is game developers refusing to enable it on Linux.
      You can argue that this makes no difference for the gamer because if the game doesn’t work then it doesn’t work. But for me the reason why it doesn’t works matters for my opinion on that game developer.

    Linux gaming becomes way complicated once you leave steam and if you want to use third party programs. Yeah, is possible, but a bit more hassle than windows.
    Most notably for me ATM, Veilguard. I'm comping shaders every other session for one reason or another. Proton update, recompile. Kernel update which causes a driver recompile, shader recompile. Driver update, you guessed it, shader recompile.

      I think if you are building a family computer it could work just fine if you will be there to support them with that change, meaning you are the one who needs to know how to use it in case they get stuck.

      @basilyes 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Not that bad actually. AMD experience is better, but NVIDIA work well on x11 and just ok on wayland, so you diffidently can switch. My recommendation is linux mint cause it's install video drivers for you and it's easy for beginner, but NVIDIA works at almost every distro, so you can use whatever you want ^_^

    • @LinuxRenaissance
      @LinuxRenaissance  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree with what @basilyes said. I would say Mint, Zorin, Ubuntu, Pop_OS. All are okay with Nvidia out of the box, but perhaps Mint is the most appropriate. And if you can chose the type of the session on the login screen chose X11 with Nvidia, for now.
      There was one case I remember a year ago Starfield came out and it did not work at all on Nvidia, but it worked okay on AMD. That's the only concrete case I can remember from the top of my head that the game just outright did not work at all on Nvidia.
      My recommendation is to chose maybe one of your favorite games and play it on Linux to get yourself comfortable, as dual-booting is pretty easy. If you need help in stalling Linux dual-boot I made a special video for that sometime back in April. I think it's titled installing Ubuntu 24.04 or something like that. Instructions should be fairly applicable to Mint as well.
      Also, don't play games on Ubuntu. Ubuntu 24 does some things that are less than ideal.

      It is better in a way that it “just works”. With NVidia you have to deal with drivers and some games don’t work and Wayland (new way od showing a picture on your screen) support was spotty. Now Wayland support seems to be better, but overall Linux community tends to prefer Radeon because of its open source drivers that work without installing literally anything.

    I tried to move over to Linux but ended back on windows...standard gaming on Linux was fine - had a good experience, but Modded gaming on Linux was not nice and sent me back to Windows - I play Fallout 4 with Mod Packs/Collections and Wabbajack won't run under Linux period, Vortex is almost as bad - and no I'm not going to manually install 1000s of mods. Until recently Mod Organiser 2 also didn't work for Starfield, not sure if that's now changed with the latest release. I have loved my time on Linux...but I'm a gamer so for me Linux is not quite there yet - god its close...

    Linux gaming is better than it's ever been, but I still had to walk away from Mint after 3 months because the experience is still a huge headache compared to Windows. Linux fans will screech about Nvidia all day, but the net result is still that Windows gaming is better no matter what company is responsible for the problems.

    • @LinuxRenaissance
      @LinuxRenaissance  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A bit problematic is the fact that Nvidia is the superior choice for gaming on Windows, while AMD is the superior choice for gaming on Linux. So, gamers who give Linux a try mostly own Nvidia (naturally) which does not give them the best experience that Linux offers. I have also had an RTX card when I started gaming more on Linux than on Windows and eventually I swapped it for a Radeon card for a better experience. It is what it is.

It would be hypocritical from me if I said one thing and do another.
      Apologies for a bit of philosophy, but this topic is important to me. I have zero problem with people playing games on Windows. I just want to show the level of possibility of gaming on Linux so that people get this information. What they do with it I leave up to them.
